Official "Which skis should I get" Thread

If you like a wider/playful ski go with the ARV I have nothing but good things to say about the ski.

If you like a skinny ski I would go with the punx, I loved mine. some ppl bitch about the durability but its a park ski. if you treat it right it will treat you right. I have had a problem with mine.

thanks ! you're right ,

would you say that the arv is a responsive park ski ?

because its listed as a more allmountain ski

I've made a thread on this but I like to hear everyones opinion. I'm 6ft, about 160lb, pretty bad in the park but can hit rails and boxes and I want to get some new park skis that will be mostly used for rails (75%) and not to frequently used for httig jumps (25%). Also I will want to use these skis for urban rails around my town. Out of these 3 skis that I am limited to which would you suggest: Line stepups, Line afterbangs, Coreupt Yards. And what size would you suggest for me!

size wise you'd definitely want to get something around 180ish. I ski on 185 chronics and im jut barely 6'1". As for the skis you've listed, I'm not to familiar with the new coreupts, but personally would go with the stepups over afterbangs just because of their shitty durability reputation. hope this helped

Yeah the only problem is that I live in Canada and those sites aren't free shipping up here. I'm stuck in a jiffy dude

I'm 5' 10" 125 lbs. As of now I ski about 25% groomers, 25% trees, 25% steeps, 15% powder, 10% park. I ski very aggressively, fast, like cornices and high speed rollers. In the park I can clear most medium jumps with a safety grab, no spins, no switch, and I used to do rails but broke my collarbone on one rendering me a major pussy when i comes to rails for the past 2 seasons. I would like to get more into park, probably to about 40-50% park. I ski Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge. Pow days are hit and miss, but i would still like a relatively wide ski. I most likely to be able to buy two pairs of skis if I work my ass off. I'm thinking my two skis could be a versatile-pow ski and a versatile-park/park-oriented all-mountain ski.

Let me know if you need more info

Thanks

where about's in canada do you live? I live in vancouver and got mine shipped to the store in seattle and just went and picked them up. Check if there's a store anywhere near you that you could ship them to. Also wait until there's a deal and consider buying last years gear

I live in Peterborough Ontario which is an hour away from Toronto. Any stores you know that are good in Ontario/Toronto area or that ship for free here? I could drive down to buffalo which would be like 4 hours but if I did that I might as well have just payed the 100 dollarish shipping fees from evo/backcountry.

Not too far plus they have free shipping which is good for me. The only thing is what skis/bindings/boots should I buy off of it. I want to stay under 700$ if that's possible. I might contact the manager and see if he can hook me up, what setup do you suggest off of it?

well there are a bunch of options, if you're just trying to save money you could go with last years afterbangs for $239 and then have more to spend on a quality binding like Rossy or Look... otherwise you would have to get the stepups and a lower quality binding..

I would highly recommend that you just spend the extra $100 or so and get either the Armada AR7 or Line Chronic for $549. Then bindings either: Rossy FKS 140 (if your willing to spend $300 on a top of the line binding) or you could go a bit lower with something like the Salomon STH-10... I don't have any experience/knowledge of many of the other bindings on their site other than the FKS's. But IMO it would definitely be worth it to just go with this set up and spend around $850 (or try and get a deal at the store):

Armada AR7/Line Chronic

Rossignol FKS 140

That setup would not only get you started in the park, but you could also use it for all around the mountain and it would last you a lot longer than some other stuff.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. That is quite a bit of money to spend but I know ya worth it in the long run, and if I got boots I would be pushing 1000$. Last question is What's a good boot to start out with? I was thinking of getting the full tilt drop kicks (yellow and green) even tho their ugly AF.

Do you want park boots or all-around boots? Quality boots will cost you AT LEAST $400. And boots are probably the last thing you want to be cheap on when it comes to gear, believe me on that one...

Park boots man. And I really can't afford the chronics or AR7s although I know I will regret it in the long run.. I really just don't have enough money for them.

how much do you have to spend in TOTAL... like what is the absolute maximum you are willing to pay for a decent setup of skis, bindings, and boots?

If you hurry really fast, evo is having a sale right now in their outlet (last years gear). If you order $350+ then you get $100 of (which would cover shipping) I highly recommend you get on that! It ends in an hour and a half so hurry! Even if you only get boots and bindings, you'll save a ton from going to d-structure and with much more selection

I wish I could but I can't right now. The absolute most I'm willing to spend would be about 900 but that's almost pushing it so probably 800.

well good luck bro, it's gunna be hard getting a solid set up that's going to last at that price range. I'd recommend that you just keep saving up for a little bit longer and spend a few extra hundred $$$ and it will be worth it in the long run. good luck!

Instead of buying two skis, I'd recommend just buying a really good quality all-around park ski with a wider waist. Something like the ON3P Jeronimo or even Jeffrey's... I was going to get jeronimo's but for me it just came down to not wanting to spent $800 on one pair of skis

Do on3p non park skis have the same durability as their famous filthy rich? do the the J-Mo's and Jeffrey's have beefy edges like the filthy rich? I cant load their ski webpage for some reason.

I would rather have a wider, nicer ski and a cheaper park ski, or a good park ski with a smokin' deal. ON3P seems kind of hard to buy, Evo only has a couple of their skis.

I have the frs and they r amazing and well worth the $, I'm not sure about the jmos edges by I would assume so cuz on3p is so legit

Anyone have some info on buying pow skis? I'm looking at getting a pair:

6'1"

175 lbs

advanced skier

currently ski on 185 Line Chronics

Thinking about getting new skis at the end of the season. I'm 6'2" 185lbs. About 75% park 25% groomers. I'm on the east coast so I'm looking for a stiffer cambered/early rise ski. I'm currently riding the years Bluehouse Antics, love them in the park 83 mm waist, but looking for something a little wider. I can hit all rails, spin forward and switch on bigger jumps. I was considering Moment Teams, any thoughts?

ski NY East coast

Looking for something really playful, tired of seeing snowboarders have more fun on the rest of the hill

Im getting out of the park a bit more and spend most my time in shitty east coast glades

need something that can still charge pretty hard and hold an edge well, also fast bases are important to me, no shitty die cuts please

5'10 160lbs

80% glades 20 park

work in a ski shop so i can good really good deals on certain brands, so just fire off as many you can think of

currently looking at heads lineup

Alright so.

Im 6'1 235

I want a wide ski that i can just slay all over the mountain.

60% park

20% groomers

10% trees

Im on the east coast but plan on moving out weat for college..im a junior right now this ski will be for next season

Skis ive been looking at..

Line blend, Surface One Time, Surface Watch Life

I really only like hitting jumps. Nothing over 40 ft. Just cruising. I hate rails with a passion. So mainly jut jumps and dicking around on the mountain.

What ski would it me best?

well, going into college, if i happen to move out west i want a one ski quiver. I'm not good so the biggest spin these skis will see is a 5.

What would you suggest?

well considering your wanting to do 60% park rather then 60% pow, you should probably just be getting a wide and versatile park ski. What's your price range?

Price range is pretty much anything. I plan on working the next two summers for a car/skis for when i move out west (hopefully) for college.

I just want to be able to bring one ski on the mountain for all conditions. I if end up moving to oregon/montana/utah/colorado for school. And there's fresh snow, i'll want something that i can play around with in everything.

I just want a ski that'll kill it all over the mountain.

take a look at some of these:

ON3P Jeronimo

Line Chronic

Armada AR7

or even this years Line Blend which you were looking at could be a good choice. I was in the same situation as you about a year ago and I ended up going with the Chronic. Pretty happy with it so far

well..i mean i'm on a pair of 178 k2 presses right now. That has a 85mm waist i'm pretty sure. I really want something fatter than that, i like the style of bringing wider skis into the park. I'm not really a park rat, i'll probably spend just as much time out of the park, than in the park. I don't hit rails at all, only jumps haha.

Would anything over a 95 just be too wide?

ohhh okay I was assuming that the majority of your time would be spent in the park. Well the point of having a wide ski is to float in pow, so if your doing trees and groomers than having a wide ski won't necessarily provide you any benefits

Yeah, i just like that style i guess. I plan on shredding pow when i move out west. But i just kinda want a one ski quiver.

Just kinda flipped the script here hahaha.

What would you say is the best one ski quiver? To be quite honest once i move out west i'll probably end up spending less time in the park lol, spend more time in fresh snow but for next year i'll still be on the east coast..lol

il say it again, sfb, im the exact same type skier as you no rails, just jumps and all mnt from what ive heard the sfbs or opuses slay

word! I just thought those might be a little too wide. I have considered them just not that much. Are they buttery? Next year's sfb's look SOOO GOOD TOO, LIKE DAMN.

Also, what bindings would be good for these?
