Ok so for those of you on the East Coast who are incredibly impatient like myself, and have driven themselves crazy watching skiing videos and getting hyped for the 16/17 winter season. The question is, when will we finally be blessed with a nice tiny patch of snow & early season rail garden at the beast.

As we know, last season Killington opened on October 19th... which is right around the corner. What should we expect this year?

Anyone with any insight/rumors as to when they will be opening this year will be appreciated with +k

Cheers

Im predicting by the beginning of November. Passed two years theyve been open around then. Im eager but Im not going on weekends until its top to bottom, gonna be a shit show opening day I imagine.

The forecast isn't looking too good in the near future. All next week and the week after temps aren't forecasted to dip into snow making temps, even at night. I can almost guarantee we will be skiing at either SR or Killy by the end of the month. Just gotta be patient.

Id rather wait a bit til my local hill blows a bit so I can bring my rails to setup, early season Killington is honestly so shitty unless its a week day and somehow slow. So many assholes whether its park or normal skiing.

It's mid october on two trails if you go in expecting anything but a huge shitshow then ya blew it guy

Lol I expect nothing but that from early season. I just prefer waiting a bit til theres more space, then again I usually just end up hiking and take no more than 4 lift rides.

are lows in the mid 30's cold enough for them to blow snow up top at killington?

possibly with the newer fan guns, but if the day temps are gonna be 40+ and sunny, there is no point making snow as it will just melt, wasting money

Probably only at night theyd be able to unless its cold enough for the ground to be relatively frozen during the day. Its Killington, theyll blow snow for a day and open the next just to be the first on the east/country.

early season killy's park is better than my mountain's mid season park

When it gets cold. Then they will blow snot on grass, open for 3 days, say first to open even tho it was for 3 days and you had to hike down to get there and now we are closed.

Went last year on October 22nd and there was a line of 6 rails. It was too fun. Would love a super early opening this year too, but I doubt it.

They extended the DH mountain bike season to next weekend. I'd keep your fingers crossed for skiing the following weekend.

They have had skiing and biking open at the same time beofre.

They were blowing snow last night which is a good sign. We're supposed to have a good winter and in the past they start off warm and dry. then the cold hits and the snow starts coming around early Dec.

I feel like if they make enough snow tomorrow night then they will pull a 1 day stunt to say they opened at some ridiculously early time. Not that that is a bad thing.

If there's a park setup I'll go if possible, it's gonna rain this week so..

They posted a picture of snowmaking on superstar where the World Cup is being held, and of rime where they usually open first. Does anyone know if they are going to make snow on both trails, or just superstar because of the race?

both, they have 2 separate systems running

Not sure how snowmaking efforts are going but if they have made progress I could definitely see them doing a passholders only day either this friday or next, then opening to the public that weekend and continuing weekends only until the temps cooperate.

I don't see them opening now for atleast two weeks. The problem is that we can't see good weather forecasts for the summit temps. Every website has completely different temps. All we know is that they will open first on the East Coast

Tell me more about how we KNOW they will beat SR....

Well they will open with a 6 inch base just to say they opened when sunday river will open with a larger base. Sunday river may be able to make more snow but killington will do anything to keep their claim.

The 10 day forecast is looking great for you guys. Snowmaking temps will even hit the base of the mountain.

Hope all you fellow east coast homies get to shred asap. this is the longest part of the year waiting for the first EC mtn to open

I'm getting tired of waiting. When the hell is killi gonna open?

It depends on inversion but it looks like temps mon night through thursday night will be in the mid 20s so maybe next weekend?

Looks like the rain around NE will turn to snow at Killi but aside from good temps for nighttime snowmaking it looks like rain is gonna be there by the weekend

Just announced they are opening for passholders Tuesday, public on Wednesday. Sunday River likely opening Tuesday or Wednesday as well, unless they wait for the weekend (hopefully wednesday since I have no classes that day)

Yeah after seeing that the day it opens for public is when the 3 day rain forecast starts, Ill wait a week. Hopefully the early winter in New England doesnt fuck up the winters normality like it did years back on Halloween. I just hope I can get a half day pass for less than $45
