Official Tahoe Thread

So northstar definitely isn't opening on their projected date. We've been doing lift evac training this week and only a few runs have snow on them and its spotted, in the shade and like an inch deep. Gonna be a while longer before people in Tahoe get to ski

Yo 'Official Tahoe Thread'... so I moved to SF a couple months back and am looking for some advice. I picked up a Squaw/Alpine pass and plan to do the weekend warrior thing quite a bit.

My question - What are some decent options for cheap overnight trips? Car camping spots would be dope. Also, about half of the month I don't need to work out of SF - but I do need to work, and my job can be demanding. That means chasing freshies on weekdays and finding free WiFi somewhere in Tahoe to work.

ALSO if your crew that enjoys getting pitted in risky lines is in need of a +1, let me know

inb4 the "dude, that drive blows, it's going to make you hate life" plead that I continue to hear.

If the weather is nice, just park in the squaw parking lot over night. one night is chill but anything longer then that people might take notice.

Looking for somewhere to crash for two nights (march 20th and 21st) near squaw while i take my level 1 exams!

Who (red faction skis, green backpack, black helmet on the backpack with a big saga sticker on it) was skiing Heavenly closing day 4/30 and skied down under the gondola after 4PM hucking snowballs? Saw you and your boarder buddy pop off a little lip, land on very expose rocks, and fall hard. Glad you're okay! It was my gondola car that you were aiming for after that, you were like 1/10 :)

Damn dude I bet! Glad you're all okay though, all's well that ends well.

Double post - is it true that Squaw/Alpine will be offering $52 tickets to Epic pass holders through 7/4 (or whenever they finally decide to close)?

Even though regionals are deader than NS in general I'll say hello.

Probably North Lake for the next few seasons working at Northstar. Living in KB for this year. Mostly just riding the VRs. Trying to get to Kirkwood more but it's a bit of a mission. Also a few Boreal days and some BC stuff when we get some fucking snow.

If anyone else works grave/3rd shift or just sleeps weird hours and wants to drink or hang out late night or morning. Get at me. I'm probably gonna go to the grid when they open at 11. still not even 5 am. Thought about going to crystal bay but too lazy and casinos are depressing places.

I made the mistake of going to Northstar yesterday. It was insane. The park was fun, but the people, parking, and snow situation were awful. I know it was a holiday, but I probably won't be back unless I'm looking for weekday park. Were you there?

Didn't miss much. I'll be at Kirkwood tomorrow afternoon and Sunday, hopefully there's still some snow left.

I drove back from santa cruz last night and rode the Heav today. Was actually pretty decent. Not crowded and hit some little stashes. Not deep by any means but totally skiable

Looking for a homie to shred with at North Tahoe. Not sure which resort yet, but it's looking like its gonna be Boreal. Probably gonna be there Thursday or Friday but just PM if you wanna try to link up.

If I remember correctly (and forgive me if you already know this), Boreal does $15 tickets on Fridays if you have a college ID.

My season is donezo. On tuesday I hooked up on the donkey of the zfd rail.

If anybody want to have a beer or 5 ever north lake let me know. Kinda trapped at the aparment. Might go to the grid tommorrow and get drunk. Cant ski, not super mobile yet and kinda bummed on the season ending but whatever. I still scored a few pow days.

I know you're donezo for the season, but do you have any idea how Northstar's parks are holding up this week after the rain? Thinkin' about playing hooky tomorrow and skiing some park, and as far as I know, Northstar >> Heavenly.

I saw Opensnow saying we may get mountain snow this week. That will be followed by "regular" systems heading in after that.

Yea. I've been following the forecast myself. Fucking praying el nino makes it dump this year. Where you ride?

When we get dumped on Diamond Peak (3 minutes away & doesn't close, awesome expert terrain), but mostly SVAP this year because IKON isn't bad. #fuckvail

Skied diamond once when I was younger. I live further up north and been riding boreal and sierra at tahoe the last season cuz the winters have been bad for Mt. Shasta. Bout season pass for sierra though this year and my goal is to ride down there 3 or 4 times a month this winter.

just moved to south lake and in dire need of friends, message me with your applications thank you in advance and I have a very cute dog who is a 10/10 good girl

Some of my best friends live in South Lake. I'm usually down there once every week or two. They're right by the CA lot at heavenly. Usually don't hit too much park with them but just rip around the mountain.

I wanted to pick up a couple days there but Northstar runs us 5 days a week. Wish I could do 4 10s and pick up 2 and the occasional 3 days at DP. They seem to be trying to get their park program rolling. I've still never actually ridden there though. Maybe this season.

Last year was the first time they could say anything about a park at DP. They had a few small jumps and one decent flip/spinnable jump. They had a few random areas of the mountain for park, but this year they're making the village park. Should be pretty cool. Dedicated strip of the mountain for the park.

Looking for a room for the season. Working grave shift at Northstar. Trying to stay in KB again but open to anything close to the mountain.

Quiet and respectful. I don't smoke, have pets, or any kids that I know of. Have split gear and hoping to get out more this year. I mostly ride northstar, kirkwood and the heav. Get to some other mountains here and there when I have off and can snag cheap tickets.

Not a serial killer but that's what everyone on the internet says.

Obviously posted on CL and Truckee Tahoe but figured I'd throw one up here as well.

I've been living in South Lake the last week or so. Moving up north when I find an Apartment but I'm staying with friends just down from the Cal lots.

I'm making snow until mid dec ish and then moving back to park grooming. Working grave so usually cruise in the mornings and then gtfo unless it's deep or I'm with friends.

Hellya! I'm on vacation right now and won't be back until December but after that I'm around all winter. Down to rip some runs in the mornings when I do my work!

Sounds good. I usually stay rendevous or backside if the snows good depending on crowds. And obviously plenty of park laps worked in depending on the day.

Hopefully my moving truck with all my equipment shows up either today or tomorrow but I just got my epic pass from heavenly so I’d love to take some trips up to northstar

Housing is getting harder. It's not even as much about $$$ as it is about just finding a spot. If you're here year round it's not as bad. You can jump on a better spot when you find it.

Truckee traffic is pretty whack. Kings Beach can be a clusterfuck as well when it's busy. Driving from KB to Northstar for work at 3:30pm the Tuesday after MLK it took us 1:45 for what usually takes 12 min. Also any roads that head toward the bay. Even taking 50 from South Lake toward Sac.

There are some fun mountains, My cars fucked atm but trying to ride more places this year. I like it here though. I dig it more than when I lived in CO. I moved here to work at Northstar, only here for the winters but I like it.

If you're set on coming go for it. Honestly for the most part if you're set on moving anywhere you should. IF it's a super sketchy, horribly terrible idea maybe somebody should talk you out of it. That said, I'm guessing you like to ski, there are mountains and snow. You cook, there are restaurants. There's a lake, there's more mountains, there's good music, idk. Maybe you love it maybe you don't but might as well check it out.

Hey thanks for the info. Its definitely in my crosshairs atm with no plans to change, and i dont want to come off as "make my decisions for me". I really have done alot of research and just was hoping to get some no bullshit info from some fellow NSers who actually spent time there. I definitely plan on being there year round, looking to completely relocate to start my life as a ski bum. Thank you again for your thorough and honest reply, it was beyond helpful my friend.
