Official Tahoe Thread

Who here knows of some big mountain or ski mountaineering competitions that are locally around the Lake this winter? My first season competing and I really want to keep it local before I go out into the big bad world of IFSA.
 
heavenly and northstar opening saturday... it's snowing right now... and i'm going to boreal on thursday. ferk yeah

There's a couple of rails already set up at Heavenly. I had a blast there on Thursday, it was crystal clear and 52 degrees.
 
Can I just say that... 17" reported at Squaw is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I mean, what a downright fucking lie haha.

I've been working here all week and we've maybe had 11-12" at most in some places.. and with how dry it all is, it's not packing down into a very deep base anyway... so by California standards, maybe 7 or 8" in reality.

Silly.
 
Anybody know of cheap places to stay/have a couch available to crash on around new years in North Lake? Was gonna stay at Hostel Tahoe from the 26th-2nd but its all booked.
 
well... if you want to hit any jibs or jumps don't go to heavenly. they have pulled the only 3 features they had. so..... yeah. fuck them.

anyway, who has seen the opensnow BA forecast for tahoe in the next week?! two big storms supposed to be rolling through.

They probably pulled them so the coming 1-3 feet of snow doesnt bury them

i get your reasoning, but i don't think that has anything to do with it.

a few years ago heavenly had four terrain parks with multiple jumps in every one and a total of about 80 rails/boxes. last season, heavenly had one park, with one 20 foot jump, and about 10 rails / boxes. they are definitely moving in the opposite direction of terrain parks. the shitty three features they had were removed on saturday... 5 days before a storm. but... does breck or key or PC or northstar pull all their shit before it snows? nope.

i dunno.. just kinda bummed that they don't give a fuck about their park anymore. replaced one park with epic mix racing. replaced another park with "family cross"... which is just snow berms.

ugh.. it hurts to think about it. heavenly truly is a weekend warrior gaper paradise resort and that's their business model.
 
Well the dismal snow year last year may have played a bit of a factor Id imagine. PC/Key/ect dont get 3 foot dumps at base elevation either. Who knows tho, Im a northern rockies skier looking to get down south for what will hopefully be a big season.

Anyone need a rooommate?
 
fingers crossed for a fat year. if it's snowing, who cares about the park (sorry goat).

i've got friday off so hopefully i'll be in 3ft of snow at kirkwood.

that kinda makes me sad. the fact that heavenly used to have so many features in 4 different parks was so bad ass. we used to always go shred until the sun dipped below on one side then jump over to the small jib park til it closed. good times were had there. i remember one year about three years back or so they set up their big ass jump line on the main park but everytime i was there it was too windy to have them open

They decided to take those jibs out well before the storm was even forecast. They are pretty over staffed, it would have been super easy to dig three features out. The sad truth is they just don't seem to care anymore. After 5 years of trying to make the parks better its sad to watch them go downhill so quickly, even if im just watching now.

little update... my boy goat00 talked with one of the guys involved with the parks and as of right now they are "blowing snow and preparing features for groove park".

so... as of now there have been zero features for a week anywhere on the mountain and the answers we've received have led to zero concrete dates of when to expect any park features.

like i said, no features currently, no set date or immediate future for groove park (which is the baby beginner park)... they are currently only blowing snow not even setting features for pushing anything out.

"high roller terrain parks"... more like penny slot parks.

the 24" of pow i got to ski at kirkwood yesterday was sick, though. keep it coming.

heavenly has some amazing natural features right now, just explore around and you'll find something super fun

yeah there's no park but there's tons of soft snow and massive booters!
 
Going to be at squaw today taking it pretty easy and fun. Haven't skied since i tore my knee up last season (plus it's basically my first time at squaw). If you see me, come say hi! I'll just be having fun taking it easy!
 
Rolling into tahoe tonight. Will be there till next wednesday. Gonna have nobody to shred or chill with till this friday so if anyones looking to chill/shred/sesh(I have loud) hmu.
 
I've been entirely avoiding any/all skiing until after the holiday season. The traffic in Tahoe is fucking unreal this season.

I should have gone on xmas day, but alas, I was in Oregon.
 
I'll be in north lake from this friday for 2 weeks. How is the weather outlook? Hoping for at least 1 pow day
 
Probably gonna go back up this weekend and hit a booter we have set up at the summit of rose if anyone wants to go. Its like 35-40 feet now but probably gonna get bigger depending on snowfall this week. Hit me up on instagram @_kodyweil or snapchat @kodyweil286
 
Hey guys I am moving to Tahoe for school at Sierra Nevada College...I'm wondering what the best pass bundle is to get? If anyone goes to SNC how many days can you get if you're pretty religious about going? Excited to ski out there for the following years and looking forward to meeting some of you...

If you don't get a Squaw/Alpine pass, you're a derp.

Sugar Bowl is the only other good option if you're in Truckee.

10/10 great recc will do again. You get 2 days at Sugar Bowl too and that place is rad.

I don't know what to do honestly..I'll be visiting SNC in the summer...I like the idea of Mt. Rose because it is close, but I know squaw will have the best terrain, but that means I have to be on top of the day if I want some powder...Heavenly doesn't look bad either..
 
Finna be patrolling full time at Northstar this winter. If anyone sees me be sure to give a holler, I'll try to have something to distinguish myself from the rest. Looks like I'll hopefully be working Friday-Tuesday
 
Any recommendations on where to live in/around south lake? I found a place very close to heavenly but it seems squaw and kirkwood are the best places to ski.
 
If anybody wants some material for a summer setup we just threw away a few hundred feet of nevplast which is the artificial surface for the summer tubing. It's in a dumpster at Cal base @ heavenly

Looking for honest opinions on Northstar, Heavenly, and Kirkwood. I have an epic pass and will be heading out that way.

Don't care to ride park, looking for challenging terrain. I know Squaw is the preferred spot, so I may suck it up and pay for a day pass there.

Out of all 3 vail spots, Kirkwood will definitely be the place for challenging terrain. Most comparative to Alpine in my opinion. Not really much of a park but the backside and even the main runs have great trails, cliffs, and cornices. It's also more of a home feeling rather than corporate feel (Heavenly and Northstar). Heavenly and Northstar have a lot of tourists, but there is some fun terrain you can find. Motts canyon at Heavenly will be the fun of the place.. I haven't really found much at northstar that tickles my fancy.
 
Anyone in the SLT area wanna grab a few beers tonight? Moved here yesterday and I know no one, would be dope to have some homies to kick it with.
