Who you got for 2019? Also should NS have some sort of official poll or vote or award or something?

I'm going with A-Hall. Won pretty much every comp. X-Games twice. Filmed a banger video part and his own movie with Hunter

Good call! Some others I would throw in the mix, (I don't personally weight contests very heavily):

Tanner - FWT podium, great clips on insta, and an awesome solo film project

Kegan Kilbride - great social content, Best Jib from a psycho all-street segment, a very underrated x games real ski segment

Cody Townsend - Very innovative content and lots of it

Eric Pollard - Innovative film project and a crazy comeback story (broken leg in Russia)

ABM - Lots of content with insane skiing and a comp juggernaught

Ahall for sure, man was in Magma, four segments in the Faction movie, won XGames bigair AND slope, FIS medals, and puts out banger content in general

Yea agreed it's gotta be A-Hall. Tons of comp wins and a ton of quality content between Magma and the Faction movie.

A-Hall has to be one of the most creative and innovative park skiers out there. Someone who I think stands out would be LDM, he fuckin owns any park he rides but can also transform into a backcountry madman while maintaining a unique and steezy style.

I dont even like Ahall. In my opinion his style is clean but not that great and he seems kinda annoying. But still i think he deserves to be the skier of the year because he so damn good.

Ahall gets my vote as well

Also big ups to schlopy for starting a comeback. Dude's been through hell and back, and sometimes that hell is harder to escape when it's of your own making.

Edit: Also Colby Stevenson for becoming possibly the most tech skier and winning every slvsh cup he took part in.

Just dropping in to let you guys know that there will be an NS SOTY award (both male and female) as part of the NS awards at Dew Tour this year. We're keeping an eye on this thread and will also be making a bunch of threads in the coming weeks for nominations for various awards.

AHall’s blunt grab call on Colby vs. Ferdi game immediately disqualifies AHall for SOTY.

jk if you say anyone other than AHall ur trippin. Fact is AHall put out the most content, had the most NBD’s, probs progressed the most, and won the most contests. Not to discredit anyone else that rode hard this season but theres no competition here lets be real

I think ABM has this one, a nutty real street part + a solo film project (with some shots from real street) as well as podiums in several contests in both big air and slope

yeah but for real A hall really went crazy this season. He went crazy in comps, park, street, and made a very strong first bc edit. Only problem is he doesn't seem to be slowing down, what if he goes crazier this season? can you win twice?

Trying really hard to think of someone other than Ahall right now just for arguments sake. Idk Quinn maybe? Dude went hard as always. Prolly got one of the biggest bag of tricks in the game up there with Ahall and Anti. But idk about SOTY. Think about who made you say "bro wtf did I just watch" and then replay the clip. For me thats Ahall

It was me. I don't think he comes close to deserving skier of the year.

Really? Dude's 35 skiing some of the gnarliest lines ever done, throwing back country triples, innovative "bring back" spins (those "flat 1's" and that crazy cork 5 bring back) the dude learned a bunch of double corks this year and brought them to the back country.

Idk he may not be on the same level as AHALL but for being 35 i'd say hes the best hes ever been and should definitely be in the conversation for SOTY considering what he's been through and the progession he's made this year.

Surprised Kuch has only gotten one mention in this thread, guess it speaks to the NS demographic. And this is not meant to take anything away from AHall.

I think Tanner has already cemented his place skiing world. The vast majority of skiers still have mad respect for him and anyone who doesn't is clearly a clown. Even my mom who only started skiing 10 years ago knows who he is, and I didn't tell her. Tanner might be progressing and doing insane tricks, especially for 35, but he isn't pushing skiing the way A Hall is. He definitely is pushing it by proving that age doesn't really matter, but there are a lot of younger skiers who can also do the tricks he is doing. Probably not with as much steeze, but still. Tanner is already in the very top tier category of skiers and has been for years. A Hall, however, only recently moved into this category. While it is true A hall might have been in it for a few years now, over the last year he really proved he belonged up there with the legends. He destroyed comps with insane tricks and style, while also putting out one of the best segments and one of the best movies of the year. No one else dominating this hard in comps and putting out insane segments, especially no one his age. He moved from one of the best to possibly the best this year. Meanwhile Tanner has proven that he deserves to stay at the top, but isn't moving up.

Im mostly just playing devils advocate for Thall "not being close to SOTY". Never said he should be skier of the year, but i think theres enough to back up bringing him into the conversation. Show me another dude in his 30s that's as versatile as Tanner right now. They're few and far between

I also think its hilarious when kids come on here and say how they think ahall is an asshole, or annoying and all of these negative things. The dude is a competitor and has a competitive spirit, his gram is full of light hearted things and joke posts. Funny how many people on here make these assumptions without ever meeting or interacting with the dude.

Oh yeah for sure. He is in a league of his own. But I’m saying if we say amazing for his age then this bruh is the running too. It amazes me that his knees can still handle this.

I think in 2020 Torin will make a fire edit

His comeback is gonna be one for the ages for sure.

In order to be the best, your name has to start with A. Alex hall, Antti ollila, Atanner Hall, etc

See I get where you're coming from but giving the award to him just because of his age is a pity party. I'd def have him strong in the runnings if he had some FWT wins. Candide won not because of his age, but because of the crazy shit he did.

Then you obviously didn’t watch Milton’s part. He broke his leg on the ender a year ago, went back, and got redemption like a boss

Kader should have won SOTY.

I know this is different but I'm still salty about it.

Ahhh the age old-SOTY debate about whether it should go to the "gnarliest" skater or the "best" skater. (Important to remember that this is Thrasher's award, which will ALWAYS go for the craziest, most hardcore shit. Also, with Phelps dying this year, it was basically a given that someone from HRC would win...)

Yes, Demolicion it was undoubtedly gnarly, but this is basically the same as the year Kyle Walker won basically soley for 50-50ing that massive kink (when IMO Daan, or Figgy should have won that year). The kickflip into the sunset carwash bank was deff the burliest trick this year but I dont think Milton 's skating resonates with enough people to make him SOTY. Hell, the most popular clip from it was him slamming on that gap to nose-grind (which yes is fucked).

In 2019 Kader turned pro and was basically the feature of two major movies this year (Candyland, and Baker 4) and put out an insane amount of footage on top of that (boys of summer 2, courtsey and tons of insta shit). I see where you're coming from but I was absolutely floored by his Baker 4 intro which is what put him in the #1 spot for me. I've rewatched that part almost everyday since it came out.

I would have voted

1) Kader

2) Suciu

3) Milton

Miltons skating didn’t resonate with people?! Dude is easily my fav skater to watch on IG, the comment sections on his clips before the announcement were filled with pro skaters claiming him SOTY. Think what you want about Nyjah but when he hands-down calls someone SOTY you gotta know how solid his opinion is.

To be fair, Baker 4 didn’t come out until later in the year and I think it didn’t have time to really get as much attention as some other videos when thrasher was deciding on SOTY.

Here’s my 3

1)Money Makin Milton

2)Suciu

3)Kader

Totally get where you're coming from I'm not saying it was undeserved at all, I just interpret SOTY as more of "who had a better year" than "who had the gnarliest part" which (because it's thrasher) it tends to go more to.

I'd also argue that Verso was more well rounded part as a whole, (and Suciu also had tons of pros saying he should be SOTY, so does Tiago...every year haha) What I mean by resonate is just "the way it makes you feel". (For example, personally, I can appreciate clean a switch front heel just as much as a 20 foot kickflip into a bank.)

Obviously this is all super subjective and its really just different strokes for different folks. I just really fucking loved Kader's Baker 4 part haha

Since you only brought up his age you clearly don’t see where in coming from. Tanner put out ground breaking street, BC and park segments this year, doing things that nobody else is doing, learning innovative tricks and is at the top of his game right now. I’m sure if candide was in thalls position or tanner rode factions you’d be backing him lol.

Im not saying he should be the #1 contender but he absolutely 100% should be in the conversation

I fee you. Skating is totally subjective. At the same time though I feel like you’re discounting all of demolicion because the ender was so buck. Every trick in that video was absolutely fuct not just the banger at the end.

It would be sick to see a more mainstream platform crown SOTY cause I’m not the biggest thrasher fan. Too many crusty old hardo’s like Phelps though may he RIP

Alex Hall and it's not even a question. This man put out Magma, faction edit, and still won multiple X-games golds. Did I mention he's only 21 years old..... How he was able to do all of these things is beyond me. Just being on a competition circuit is stressful enough, then add in movie parts. No questions A-Hall for SOTY

Understandable. I really don't think his bc segments and park have really been innovative but man def is crazy in the streets. Just he's got 0 comp wins and didn't put out close to as much insane content as ahall and others
