Official Ski/Binding Maintenance Thread

I lost about 5 inches of edging right under my boot and really need these skis to last the rest of this winter... epoxy? ptex?

I wanted to get a set of bindings and the shop mentioned that they found water under my screws, and thus I should get new skis. I don’t entirely trust this shop due to an unrelated botched adjustment.

Is some amount of water under the screws normal immediately after skiing, and if not can it be fixed?

Is it an issue that this part of my Tyrolia's are bent? They've been like this for several years and I haven't noticed any problems while skiing, but I don't know if this could become a problem down the line.

I'd say the most likely worst-case scenario the brakes explode, but don't my word for it 100%. My pivots are kinda like this, I'm just going to keep riding them.

That doesn't sound so bad, I'll keep using them then. I think I'll bend the brakes out a little though so they have an easier time deploying. Thanks

Hello,

I am having some boot/binding issues and was wondering if anyone could help. I have a pair of Tyrolia Andrenalin touring bindings and a brand new pair of regular Salomon boots. I am getting a good amount of up and down play in the toe piece of my bindings, I have tried adjusting the bindings and the toe plate but still can't get rid of the wiggling. The boots are brand new so there's no way they are too worn down, so I have been trying to see if anyone knows of another way to fix play in the bindings. Any suggestions would be great.

I don't know if this is the right place for thus question but last season I mounted a pair of attacks on some skis and they feel like shit. I've had one pair if attacks before and loved them but these just feel creaky and the hell moves a lot. Duno if it's how I put them together or mounted them but yeah

Make sure that you can’t see the screws from a side profile. You want the binding to be flush on the ski (may be obvious but worth checking).

I would also check afd and forward pressure as well to make sure your boot is inside the binding properly as well.

Allright thanks

I’ve got a pair of Marker M40 bindings mounted on a pair of K2 712 skis. Is there any way for me to make them safe?

If you like your knees I’d suggest not skiing those. Why the fuck would you want to ski that ski/binding combo at all anyway

By throwing them in the trash and buying a pair of bindings made in this century?

Just make sure that the fucked up edge is now only an outside edge.

Does installing booster straps void manufacturer warranty?

I doubt it. But if you have any concern, you should just keep your stock straps and reinstall them before submitting your warranty claim.

AFD teflon stickers fell off my salomon sth12 bindings (circa ~2010) the original stickers are lost. Local shop was no help.

In my search i found a tgr thread and youtube vids where people have used adhesive backed Teflon-PTFE sheets cut to size to replace.

I took some measurements and it looks like I need about 0.8mm or 1/32" thick but it was tricky to get an exact measurement. Looking at buying this: https://www.amazon.com/Teflon-industrial-strength-self-adhesive-backing-TEFLON12x12-3M/dp/B00CM06JAG/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=Soles2dance&qid=1638744527&sr=8-4

Or this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254382236970

Is this a bad idea? Does anyone have experience doing this?

Hey guys,

My pivot 14s are feeling kind of stiff. For example, the rear part of the binding (red circle) seems very stiff to move up and down and it doesnt seem to spin as well. Do these need to have some kind of lubricant added?

Totally normal and won't affect functionality at all. It'll break in a bit over time. :)

If you had an adjustable afd height I would have minimal hesitations, without that adjustment it might be a lil sketchy, your ski bindings are a safety device after all. If you are just trying to get through the end of the season I say go for it, just make sure to properly prep the surface for adhesive (mild abrasives like scotchbrite and thorough cleaning with alcohol).

I would not rely on it as a permanent solution. You can find bindings for cheap, either used or on closeout, and probably wouldn't even have to put new holes in your skis if you get another pair with the same mounting pattern.

Thanks, it seemed to work as a temp solution but I eventually found replacement baseplates for the toe pieces that still had the AFD stickers for $20.

Pivot help plz!

sometimes after I stomp a landing one of my bindings just decides to spit my boot out. Doesn’t always happen but often enough to be a problem.

I have my Dins set pretty high and my heel is cranked up as far as it can go to fit my 26.5 (mounted for a 28.5 but cranked down to fit me cuz I bought my skis used) I’m like 150lbs and my Dins are set at like 9 I believe cuz I enjoy having knees

what should I do?

If they were mounted for a 28.5 and you're in a 26.5, you'll definitely need to remount them. Your issue is almost certainly forward-pressure related.

100% forward pressure issue. they only have like 7-8 mils of adjustment assuming they were mounted in the middle.

Almost a 0% chance you are able to get 2 boot size different adjustment out of it.

oh shitttt, yea I might just fuck around and get them remounted so I can actually have the forward pressure set to a good spot

Got sum edge separation and top sheet delam, two birds one stone.

but basically I used a pry bar to separate the top sheet more, put a shit ton of epoxy between the top sheet and core. Also at the edges so it’s sealed. wood for even contact.

*disclaimer I have no idea what I’m doing.

Picked up this core shot on my wets right under the toe piece. Because it’s right by the edge, how should I go about fixing it? Put some epoxy in and let it cure then ptex?
