Official Raw/Selvedge Denim Thread

I'm sure I'm not the only guy here who wears 'em, so whatcha got? I'm pretty new to raw denim, but I have a pair of Levis 501 STFs that have about maybe 80 wears, with 2 soaks (including initial soak) and one wash (dad threw them in the wash by mistake). I also have a pair of Blue Blood Selvedge Cuts that have maybe 20 wears and 1 initial soak. Tell me what you have and add some pics!

Sorry for shitty pics, the lighting in my room sucks and it's dark out so I can't go outside to take better ones

wait until it dries, and use a wet toothbrush to scrub it out. then for smell rub a dryer sheet on it a few times, and after that it's good as new!

no, raw denim (often selvedge) uses much higher quality denim, and is not pre-distressed like a lot of the mall-bought jeans are today. This allows you to break in the jeans and have them develop natural creases and fades that form by your own body's movement, so in essence they're like a "second skin". They look really cool and for the most part last longer than normal pre-distressed jeans.

I just buy jeans, don't care what brand nothing, as long as they stay on and are cheap they're fine with me.

bitches love a pair of nice looking faded jeans. you have a problem with that? then get the fuck out, no one asked for your ignorance here.

and They're*

but you have to realize, this is probably about 1-2 years in on this one pair of jeans. washing and wearing any type of jeans whether they're raw or not will still fade the color, and they will still be significantly lighter than when you purchased them. if it's the contrast of the fades that you don't like, then put them in the wash sooner/more frequently, and you'll end up with less contrast in your fades.

this isn't representative of ALL fades/selvedge denim. it depends on the denim weight, color, how much you wear them, soaks, etc.

What does its popularity have to do with anything? Just because of a bunch of girly men in L.A. deem it "in" doesn't necessarily make them look better. I've owned cheap pre-distressed jeans for 3 years at a time and they didn't fade that much. There's just something about my jeans becoming more flashy as time goes on that doesn't sit well with me, even though I like the idea of them custom forming to my man parts.

he referenced them as being something worn by "asians with weird haircuts", meaning that asians with weird haircuts are the majority of the people who wear raw denim, which isnt true. it's not the fact that they become more flashy that's appealing, but rather the fact that YOU wear them down, so every imperfection in them is directly caused by you, which I think is pretty sick. The jeans also tend to be much higher quality and generally the denim is heavier, which makes for a much more solid feel to them. To each his own, but after going to raw denim I'm for sure not going back.

Plus, if you don't like the fading part at all but want the quality, they make a pair of raw selvedge jeans that do no fade at all due to the ink used, but I don't remember which jeans these were. If I recall correctly though they were listed in the rawrdenim.com blog called "5 pairs of raw denim done differently"

You're putting way too much thought into this, after all, they are just a pair of pants.

naked and famous did a collab with a store from my hometown, when i was at my folks' for oktoberfest a couple weeks ago i went in and saw them. japanese raw salvage denim. no chance i can afford some $150 dollar jeans at the moment, so i left without them, but a couple weeks later, i got em in the mail from the ma. she thought i looked like a bum when i was at home. they're pretty tits.

So much hate...

Anyway I think that really light pair up there is a poor example of your average raw denim fade. Most are a lot darker than that.

For example, heres a faded version of what im currently wearing:

you don't like it, don't open the damn thread. simple. there are those of us who obviously enjoy this, so no need to be such a negative nancy

I've got a pair of naked and famous tweed fill selvedge, only an initial soak on em. Worn em about 3 months, not everyday, but quite often, and I sleep in them too. Thinking maybe a second soak or a first wash after 5 months.

No, youre actually REALLY close. They're naked and famous deep indigo skinny guys. cant wait till my own pair fades a bit more

i've got 2 pairs going right now, N&F skinny guy broken twills, APC PS, and a pair of taylor stitch's. ill post pics later.

also, to people who dont get this: it's kinda fun, getting your own fades and what not, not to mention its cool to have denim where you know all the wear marks are from you.

I want to buy my first pair following the holiday season. But I was looking to support Jiberish, thoughts? I wear Levi's 511 32, 32 in like 10 different washes and materials (khaki, chord, chino) and I always wear them with a pinch roll, regardless of shoe/boot.

Should I go with Jiberish, or another brand? I prefer a much darker, darker wash.

Christ you people hating need to get a life. It's not worth the effort to hate on what someone else chooses to wear. That being said, I am selling a pair of 30 N&F Weird Guy Indigos if anyone is interested.

Although pricey, this is probably your best (and only) option for raw denim from jiberish http://www.jiberish.com/product.cfm?ProdID=624

If you want a fairly skinny fit, I would get it in the 30 to account for waist stretching, or a 31 if you like it a bit looser. it's ok if you can barely get the top button closed at first, as the waist will stretch a bit as it starts to break in.you're also probably going to want to get it hemmed or roll the shit out of the bottoms, because regardless of waist size they all come with a 36 inseam

I like the cut on these, it looks good! I wish both of my pairs were a bit slimmer, but the 501s were my first experience with raw denim so I sized up too much, and the blue bloods were an ebay find so there was nothing I can do. I got them for like $50 though, so it's all good

I've got three pairs of naked and famous. Awesome jeans, fucking love them. Just got some 22oz elephants that are going to be great for winter. Look around a bit and you can find some pretty good deals. Got a pair of weird guys for just under 100

On month 8 on a stubborn pair of 3sixteen SL-100x. Starting to get some decent honeycombs and crotch whiskers. Thighs, knees, and crotch have went up a couple shades of indigo as well. The patina on the leather Tanner Goods patch has darkened quite a bit also.

Probably won't post pics though. Haha

the elephant 2s are awesome. I sized down two in WG and they fit great. the other two WG i have are sized down 1 and fit a bit more loose, but i like them both.

i have always been interested but they are just way too expensive for me. i'll stick to my 40 dollar levis 511s that i know will fit

i dont have to buy untreated jeans to not wash them. i dont do that anyway haha

seriously though this is probably one of the lamest things ive seen people make into too big of a deal

If they're skinny and at least 3% spandex, i'm happy. (Not emo skinny, but enough to hug my legs pretty good.)

Garbstore shiznits. Only had em for about a month. The tailor kind of fucked the cuff up so Im gonna get some new ones at the end of the year.

I've had a pair of N&F left hand twills since august. wear them every day and am starting to see fades. how should i store them? not folded, so on a chair? or hanging? this seems to pull on the belt loop hard because i leave my belt and wallet in the pants
