They had some of the greatest thinkers of the age, their discoveries impact everything we do today. People like Socrates, Plato,Archimedes, Pythagorus, Aristotle, Hippocrates, they basically fucked shit up.They had some cool ass gods, polytheism ftw. They made up the olympics, who doesnt love lots of greased up men running around naked?(no homo x12)

they also contributed a lot to architectural design ideas still used today
 
More often than not it is a literal regurgitation of their ideas, unfortunately.

However, the philosophical ideologies put forth by Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, and several others are absolutely brilliant and had an unmeasureable impact on everything that has followed.
 
they fought some badass wars, they got crazy buildings, they had crazy thinkers...basically they gad ther act together and were out of the cave and on their was to becoming philosopher kings as plato might say

the Greece of today is a shit hole, there are nice beaches on the islands but that's about it
 
Basically the peak of an entire millenium, had incredibly advanced water systems, weapons, houses, etc. Evar since Greece society had died off our civilization as a whole went into the gutter and entered the dark ages YO!
 
the noblemen lived like pimp kings and everyone else lived like shit. i don't know if thats good, i suppose it is for the noble's, but its pretty cool still. like having someone carry you around all the time, shits tight. no more walking for me!
 
please tell me u are using the 300 the movie plot line as a reason the greeks were the shit???? Not only were there like 3000 greeks fighting with the spartans but the position they took in the pass created a funnel which kept the persians from fighting with their whole force... while they are quite badass that movie is full of soo many errors it hurts me

The art (sculpture, ceramics, vase painting, wall painting.......), architecture, political structures, literature, ideas in general have a huge influence on all those things in Western society today. Greek society was able to flourish in a place where there was limited natural resources and for the most part, poor agricultural land. Also they caused the downfall of the enormous Persian empire with a fraction of the resources and military the Persians had. There's a quote that "Rome conquered Greece, but Greece led Rome forever after by the nose". You might not consider this part to be too great, but boys would have older male teachers of sorts, with whom they had sexual relations. This related to the idea of the ideal, beautiful male body, which was considered the epitome of excellence to strive for. This was considered so important that the sweat and dirt scraped off of boys after exercising/athletic training (which they were expected to do every day)was rendered (boiled down) and given as an "elixir of youth" to older people. Women were not considered people, and neither were slaves, which there was an enormous amount of. Anywhere they had democratic government, the only people who had a say were men who had been born in that polis (city state), so a very small portion of the population. PM me if you want any more info, I might be able to answer a few questions. I took an entry level Classics course last year at University, so I know a little bit about Ancient Greece.

the democratic system developed by the ancient greeks was the basis for all modern forms or government and order today. they had a democratc system
