Official Park Update Thread

Shawn said theyre going to build more snow up on the sides of it si it will be alot easier to jump over, jib off of, handplant of whatever...

Be there looking good then Phillips bros!

Time to get some photos done! I'm too broken to ski park, so I might as well make myself useful.

I'm hoping this is due to features being unstable from lack of snow around them, and that there isn't massive brown poo-stains in the park.

One more day of extreme warmth.

wow, the whole place is shut down now, I didn't think this would cause that much melting.

In other news HV finally has a legitimate park setup.

I might go tomorrow night, but this week's been real busy with my last week of work on break and shopping for a new car, sooo, we''l see.

i know this has nothing to do with kb, but heres whats up at holiday valley. they actually have a pretty decent park set up on fox fire. theres a couple good sized tables and a few new rails that were real nice. since kbs closed, it might actually be worth going down there.

I drove by KB yesterday to assess the damage. Not as bad as I was expecting.

Coal Chute had one bare spot, but otherwise decent coverage. Same with the park, and the jump lines base didn't seem to suffer much damage either. Holly was a strip down the middle, but was top-bottom. Eagle was fully covered. Dream at North was looking alright too.

Overall, shouldn't take more than a few nights of good snowmaking weather to get things open again.

As for Holiday, I won't be going this weekend because I'd rather save my $52 and go later in the season when overall skiing conditions are good. Sounds promising that they FINALLY have a good setup. It was always a joke how bad their park was in the past with that resort having as much revenue as they do.

kb is gonna be open this sunday. on the site it says opening at 9pm. but if you check the information update thing, it does actually say 9am. kb and the typos...they never end.

You may hold me to fire on all typos, hacking away at the keyboard as things are open, then closed, then opened again, all over the map of late. My apologies for the typos. Email me when you spot them so I can fix them. Often these updates are done before 6am and my first of many redbulls, can't function before the RBs and can't focus after, addiction is a terrible thing.

i dont drink that much, but my dad does so he bought the case from me. $30 isnt bad if you ask me

The fiance bought me a case of redbull for Christmas. God I love that stuff.

As for the park, hopefully this weekend it's back in business. Skiing was INCREDIBLY boring on Sunday with no park. WNY is not good for general skiing by any means.

tell me about it. i was out tuesday and i did gates all day.

by the way andy, theres another typo in the info update. "NAR rsce event is on"

Just got back from Holiday. Supa gay. They moved the park to that run where the pipe went, and it's suupper skinny for what it needs. The set ups are ok, but I was scared I'd fall and land in some other landings going on right next to me. They have two decent sized jumps people loved, I didn't hit them because the landings where at least a foot dug out in one place. The rails take offs are nice there, landings, the same... the way they're set up, no. The mini park is better, pretty fun in there...

but I like holiday for the runs anyways. Holiday has nice skiing, especially Tannenbaum. Ride down for 5-6 minutes, lift up in 2, it's insane, I love that. KB would be 10134x's better with just one high speed somewhere.

Typo corrected, thanks for the heads up. Any of you competing in the USASA boarder/skier X coming up at HV in a week or so? I spoke with the USASA head and skiers are welcome, even meathead geezer telemark racers! How is the course at HV if anyone has ridden it, or if indeed it even exists yet?

i was at hv last week, and nobody was there so i just laps on the jumps. it was pretty good. it seems like they put up some more rails since the last time i was there. how many were up at last count?

In the main park, This is the run.

1st choise - Flat 3 Barrel Rail, Trap Wide Rail, Gain speed for jump

2nd - "urban" rail, C box, jump (25ish ft)

3rd- DFD rail, more speed for second jump

4th- jump (30 ft?) decent air, I've seen a nice bio5 from a boarder off it

5th- the long butter box, decently set up, long steep landing, kind of pointless for me I suppose...

Also, cody told me the park at KB will be open Monday, with a new setup.... so yup, Monday.

Post-post thought.

Here's to hoping that with the cold over the weekend, and plenty of time, they can get the park going 100% with an awesome setup.

We'll see.

Heres a better HV update. sry to take off a bit:

As for the jumps there are three. decent size but super sketchy. the whole time you are sitting there thinking am I to closee or too far. Normally thinking too far might not be a problem b/c the landings are real long; but in this case it was. as soon as you land you better look up real quick because you have about 10 feet to prepare for jump number two. Which is a little bigger and still a super long landing. And oh what now. you have a rediculously long time till the third jump which is small and retarded. it was set-up as a step-up with too narrow of a step-up for anyone other then a snowboarder. I tried to figure out why they would put the first 2 jumps so close and the third so far but came with nothing.

As for the rails in that park. they are not bad. better then the old ones.

Then we have the mini-park. Its fun thats for sure. but overall dissapointing. theres so much potential for that park. You have a huge fairway that could duoble the size of that park, and a lot of long fun set-ups could be done. but like every other yr its the same. few rails and boxes, and a mini jump to try and look cool over b/c its too small to do anything spectacular.

o well. Its NY. better then nothing!

Every year it's the same.

Granted it's their best park ever yet, but still, so much money, so much potential, yet they fail to deliver. It's actually sad.

I'm sure it's their best yet, but that's not saying all that much.

your right, it is the best season for a park. But it just seems everytime they come up with something good they slack on the details. They barelly ever groom anything when the parks are set-up and they seem to let all the lips and landings go to shit.

Very Dissapointing.

i just checked the KB site and on the front page it was noted that the park opened at 1230 on saturday. Did anyone go today? What was set up?

Not much was setup. I skied out of the park because general snow conditions were great.

Flat box, small jump, and the big triangle up-down rail was all I saw.

i hope that they start to blow snow in the jumpline and build some of those mounds up. Tall tables that have kickers with nice long transitions make me smile. Dangerous stepdowns with short and sudden ice bumps for kickers make me cry.

Daily update said park will be closed each morning this week until at least 11am so they can setup features.

I'm guessing snowmaking is done on the jumpline though. It'd be nice to see longer landings, and I still feel that the landing for the first table looks a little flatter than most of us would prefer.

I will give some major credit though for the takeoff on the flatbox yesterday. Might've been the nicest takeoff I have ever seen onto a feature. Looked nice, and was a perfect size, and distance from the feature. Small gap, not a death gap, and perfect kick.

If park crew sets up all the features as nicely as the flatbox was yesterday, I will be extremely impressed.

brad youre going to be crying a lot. they built a kicker on the first mound that had a funky lip on the end, that shoots you up real high so that you come in super hard to the flat landing. its not good

^ yeah, kenton went earlier today and broke the bad news to me.

I know that I would rather wait longer for a higher quality product than to have haggard jumps as soon as possible

Arghhh...

That first landing is too flat as is, let alone to have a poppy jump.

I too would rather wait for good jumps than a haggard product that is going to likely get worse as the season goes on.

kenton did say that a new rail was moved into the park and was set up very nice, but i am praying to lord xenu that they blow some snow and build those landings up

yeah, along with the new jump, they had a 15' straight rail going upwards next to the straight box, and the rainbow box next to the c box.

I went to KB the night of 1/23 and made 2 runs in the park,

this is what I saw…

(it was snowing hard during the day, which would make park maintenance difficult so i did not include that in my review , i just discuss how the features were set up and built)

Positive

blowing snow in the jump line (just 1 gun though)

c box set up nice, they got rid of the awful death bump

of a landing that was there on the weekend

flat box (but how difficult can it be to set up a flat

box)

Up rail, I really liked this feature, good jump up to

it, good upwards angle for spinning off, but not too steep that it limits what

tricks you can do or that the steepness makes it strange to slide. The landing seemed a little close (I thought I

was traveling too slow for spins off and I still overshot it) but

regardless it is a really fun addition to the park.

Negative

jump on the left (was fun in mid December, but it has

not aged gracefully, I hope they scrap it and start over)

rainbow box (no jump, just set in the snow, nasty ruts

before and after)

trap rail (I have to draw it, too strange to explain,

the jump seems to be higher than the actual up section, it was not like this on

Monday and the way it was shaped it looked to be done on purpose, it was not the cause of heavy snowfall)

(not drawn to scale, but pretty damn close)

Bus kids (though not directed at me, “fuck you” and “fag”

could be heard echoing through the night.

Super Mega Bad

The 1st jump in the bottom right jump line: a

child killer of a step down, a ski patrollers worst nightmare, and an ACL ripping’,

back snapping ice bump - I’ve seen 3 people hit it with what looked to be sufficient

speed - they all got bucked, sent up in a strange trajectory, rolled down the

window from start to finish, and came to an unpleasant crash upon the icy knuckle. The kicker appears to be mellow for the 1st

90%, and then at the last part it just has a short, steep, abrupt lip. Maybe if it were to be longer, wider, set

closer, and with a longer, more gradual transition, the jump would be

safer. But, with a landing that flat I don’t

know what they could do. I dont think it will be set up long and im pretty sure something safer will take its place. Maybe they just built it so that they could say they had a large jump.

Snowing very hard as I drove through on the expressway at about 10pm, I'm guessing KB will be awesome tomorrow

Thanks for the update Moses. I'll post my review as I'm sneaking some turns this evening. I won't be skiing park, but I'll roll thru and look it over.

the powder lsat night was epic. knee-waist deep. with this much snow they should be able to open up some new stuff and set up some features.
