Official Olympic Discussion: Men's Superpipe Finals

Torins run is gonna be crazy if he can land it

Yeah, but even perfectly executed I don't think Torin's run is a 97+. Maybe a 96.something though. It'd suck if Porteous didn't even medal after that run though.

What is up with that pipe? Seems like skiers left is tossing everyone really deep into the landing and we’ve had two people deck on the skiers right

That was huge as huge gets, but those late and early grabs should not be rewarded.

Actually think the judges got the podium correct here. Maybe 1 and 2 could be swapped since Ferriera went fucking huge and clean, but otherwise judges did well.

So hopefully people will have way fewer complaints about the judging compared to slope. Should clearly have been Wise / Porteous / Ferreira from where I sit, but for a judged sport, getting one podium spot wrong and not robbing anyone of a medal, they really did a pretty damn good job here.

Yo that live stream was cool thanks for putting that together. interesting hearing from a judge live whos not judging the event. thanks jason.

I honestly thought Ferriera might get 1st bc his run felt borderline irresponsibly huge after having two riders deck that hard lol

But agreed, judges did great this time.

must insane and best pipe contest i have ever seen. like what the actual fuck... so many dubs

well that was a weird comp

kevin messing up his 3 runs

torin messing up 3runs with 1 where he almost had it

byron DNS

andreas gohl #whotdat?

thomas krief making a comeback but only for one run

now the olympic judging will be famous for putting high scores early in the comp, putting them in a position to give 97s and 96s later on

Nah... Those weren't high scores. Wise's run totally deserves a 97. That run is as good as a run can be in pipe right now and the only way you could possibly do any better would be to boost higher, or maybe somehow add a 6th hit (though that would be nearly impossible). Ferreira for me was definitely overscored, so I agree with you there... but if he'd actually held his grabs it would have been well worth the 96+ given how big he was going. Porteous stuck a double 14 in an otherwise strong run, if you do something no one else has ever done, a 94.8 isn't a crazy score.

Judges got this one correct. Bummed that Torin didn't have a clean run. Wise was in such a difficult position and put down an epic performance. Nico stepped up and deserved the podium. Ferrera had nothing to loose and went full send on that last run. If his grabs were more solid I'd give home the gold for amplitude but Wise went pretty big too with all 4 way dubs. Wat.

Ferreira definitely deserved the gold especially after throwing down 3 clean runs in a row.

Eh. I could see it go either way. Came down to technicality vs boosting and technicality won. I think the judges got it right today.

And how great was the kiwi kids stoke. So awesome.

What an event! Damn that was an intense third 3 from everyone.

Got to ski down the pipe afterwards. DId my best TYW surf down it.

That thing is crazy

why he goes huge and shit obviously one of the best pipe skiers but his shit is boring and bland compared to some of the other guys

how is his shit boring?

So stoked on this contest. Every rider left it on the table. It’s hard to argue anything against Wise taking the top spot, 5 really technical hits with grabs that are locked in for sooo long. Alex has huge nuts... and Nico showed that once he gets a little older he is going to change the game if he can get some momentum and snag some amplitude. Wow, so stoked for this sport. Hope you all good torin!

Wanted to see Torin on that podium so badly.

Hopefully he's still around in 4 years to go back, seems unlikely at this point but really wanted to see that run put down. He always goes to big on his 1080 and does the down the pipe double in the last 10 feet of the pipe.

why does that seem unlikely? He'll be 26 in 4 years, still real young

Noah's Run 1 was pretty flawless. Would have been interesting to see that same run put down Run 3 and where it would have landed, as those switch hits were style for days. Judges playing it safe on Run 1 scores after slopestyle mahyem perhaps?

Not saying it's unlikely from age, I just hope he's still in the top ranks by then and isn't skiing more powder like some pros turn to later on, but also younger kids taking over the 4 spots. Kid deserves a win more than pretty much all of them, or at least a stomped run.

Hopefully with that addition of a switch double he can make his run even better in the future, he could've beat wise or at least Ferreira.

Not a fan of that ferereia run at all. So hucked and no style. Can't believe he scored so high with it. It sucks Noah couldn't put down a 2nd or 3rd run, so stylie, tech, amazing tricks, would have easily been 1st place

I'm a big fan of Noah, but his run doesn't stack up to the top 3, at all.

Alex's run was HUGE, and news flash pipe skiing isn't about style, not sure where you got that idea, stylish pipe skiers have never really done that well. Wise put down what I would argue is the best pipe run ever, Alex was right on his tail and Nico did the most tech run we've ever seen in the pipe as well, I don't think Noah would have beat any of them if he put down his full run, he doesn't spin right side nearly enough.
