Official Olympic Discussion: Men's Slopestyle

Two things - Teales rail line was crazy and definitely should've been scored higher imo, and then geopper got absolutely fucking robbed, first for sure

the world needs to know that this judging is bullshit, the announcers should feel obligated to say something, but it sounds like they dont even realize wtf is going on

Not saying he deserved a 95, but that blunt to blunt sw14 definitely deserves respect.

It’s fucking heart wrenching that all of these kids worked so hard for 4 years (and longer obv) to compete in something with such inconsistent judging. I would really like to see the judging credentials and criteria, and would be very interested to see a country by country breakdown of scores because there’s obviously some incompetence. If the FIS and IOC aren’t going to take this seriously there needs to be a re-evaluation of our sports place in these games for the sake of our athletes.

Funny as fuck reading this thread as a non-american.

grats to braten

I mean I don't really care about which countries win, but you really think Goepper didn't deserve a win there?

They fucked up by giving him a 95 that early, it's like how they give shaun white high scores basically saying there's no room for improvement.

European here... the man did not deserve gold. Period.

Absolutely fucked that Goepper didn't get gold there, stomped his run only to get fucked by judging. This olympics has some wack ass slopestyle judging, shit 2 of the judges never even rode slopestyle. I wanna see some sort of backlash from pros, cause this is absurd.

Well, I think we can write this off as the worst judging in slopestyle history, pretend this never happened, and move on.

Oystein should go buy a lottery ticket. Dude got lucky as fuck. It wouldn't be crazy if he snuck on the podium in 3rd, but that wasn't a winning run.

Yeah... Goepper and Woodsy should have got gold and silver. Seriously though... how the hell do you give Braaten a 95 for that and then just consistently dick over the rest of the field for the rest of the event? But what the hell do I know...

Oysteins rails weren't even that impressive. The rails are like 6 feet off the ground, its not that hard to front swap and just keep spinning for a 4 out. Mind boggling how they gave that a 95. GJ steel spence, blowing it once again.

Huge mistake giving Oystein a 95 on his first run. Didn’t allow for any improvement for the rest of the competition. I’m Canadian so my view may be skewed but I think the podium should have been 1. Goepper 2. ABM 3. Woods... but who am I to judge

I was so hyped up for the olympics this year and ALL of the skiers absolutely killed it, but I was extremely disappointed with the inconsistent judging. Ferdinand Dahl absolutely threw down and then got boned by the shit judges. And don’t get me started on the announcers. I felt like I was watching figure skating, they were so lame. And apparently every trick in skiing is a cork now. Very disappointed in the olympics this year.

Its not 2002 anymore, why is this irrelevant ruining the olympics???

I agree, everyone likes to ride on heritage but I guarantee you that if the judges were tanner hall, tom wallisch, or some more contemporary people, then the scoring would be 100% different.

I'm not saying I disagree, just that it's funny reading the thread. A lot of skiers got robbed today

Except he's been judging pretty much every major event in the past decade. It's not like he just picked this up like a bunch of the other judges. He's been front and centre in watching skiings progression and should know damn well how to judge properly. I doubt he's to blame on this, I bet it's the other judges who are totally new to slopestyle skiing.

No one got robbed harder than Dahl. I don't think they realized (anyone) he did two really good triples in his run. Even the announcer later said Woodsy was the only one to do that. This was so disappointing. At least I know not to look forward to it next time around.

I agree, which is why this thread is so funny with so many mentioning their favourite Goepper, while not taking in ferdinands run.

95 on the first run with no triple is ridiculous! I’m Scandinavian and even I think the scores were shit! Ferdinand Dahl was robbed!!!

I just made an account to say the judges were trash, I saw crazy shit on the rails and they got nothing for it they only cared about the jumps

The back to back switch 14s is impressive, but the execution just wasnt quite there. I respect trying to push the blunt to blunt on the switch dub 14 rather than just going for the trip, but from the angle it seems he didnt quite get the grabs that locked or for that long. His X Games run wasway better, if he did the blunt to blunt like he did in X Big Air, that would be another story

I really like Oystein, I like Fast Laps and the exposure he gives to all the dank Norwegian skiers around him, but to be knit picky, he also has a serial issue with switch pizza-ing in his slope runs, it messes with the flow of his runs

Woods with two pretty stomped triples, Teal Harle with the interesting axis on the dub forward bio/rodeo 10 and the switch 3 disaster, ABM getting so tweaked on all his grabs, doing a broken tweaked trucker on that dub misty/bio 10, and last but not least, Goepper (say what you want about his skiing in general), UNNATTY trip 14 with a grab switch to double Japan!!! That was after going huge on a perfect switch dub misty and being flawless on everything else.

Judging was fucked but, at least Ragettli didnt get on by doing some variation of 270 this way, that way, k-fed blah blah, and then spinning himself into oblivion.

Worst judging since I started following comps back in 04. Dahl gets 70-something for an insane run and woods gets over 90 for a run with at least 3 misses?!

Comp was crazy and everybody threw down but the judging was embarrassingly inconsistent!

This doesn’t belong in the olympics IMO.

Also big ups to Harle for a sick run!

Backlash from the pros would probably be the only thing that'd make any impact. Difficult for them to call out the judges without coming off as bitter, though.

Oysteins run was sick, and I really like Oystein and feel he does deserve to medal this comp, but god damn 95 was just incorrect

Also, ABM completely missing the switch 4 and getting an 80

Plain and simple this judging is just off...its incorrect. I would love to see ABM or Oystein medal, but not completing a rail feature should be deemed as an incomplete run and be judged no higher than 65.

Bellemare did in the qualis:

switch4 on to switch clean AF

switch on to the qp to 4on to switch

sw2 pretzel 4

left dub 10 safety

right dub 12 mute

switch left dub 12 jap

and a score of 61.....

people were messing up rails big time, missing grabs and getting higher scores than that

judges were on some real russian collusion shit

I don't recognize most of those guys, but Steele is legit. Filmed with Level1 for years.
