Official NFL 2012-2013 Thread

close game, someone has to lose. 49ers just forgot to play in the first half. ravens werent mistake-free as well. fake FG was horseshit, they got the look they wanted, like 100% (left side of the defense crashing in blindly, good block on the perimeter) and still there were at least two guys preventing the first down, then rice's fumble.

it was really a toss up. obviously, the 49ers looked a little helpless in the 2-pt conversion and on the plays at the end on the goal line. they were like "wtf? they are blitzing?" and they didnt look prepared to run plays inside the 5 at all. i mean you have a good run game, a mobile QB with a strong arm. you have davis, moss and crabtree, all players who can catch away from their body. you have to make these plays, thats almost a recipe for red-zone success.

obviously, that 4th down holding/PI call would have been a 95% call in the 2nd regular season game, jaguars/colts or so, but whatever.

it was a close game, both teams made mistakes, both teams made good plays. was rooting for randy to get his ring, but the 49ers arent about receivers. they run a lot of 22, 21, 12 personnel, so very rarely, there is a 2nd receiver on the field, and they are used to clear the defense deep to open up the running game or davis/walker underneath.

really, change one or two plays (or take away that horseshit delay), and this game changes dramatically. really dont like how everyone sucks the ravens dick right now, or even flaccos dick. his protection was unreal in the playoffs. dumervil, miller, the whole patriots defense, the smiths,... noone did a thing against that line. credit the ravens oline, but please, not flacco. i mean, he didnt make any mistakes, but the NFL should really rename the super bowl mvp award into "winning team QB award". and ray lewis is bad. he is hurt or too old, or whatever, but he didnt play well. all post-season long.

so, whatever, fun game to watch, someone has to win it, but please dont act like the ravens are soooooo good. because they arent. dont act surprised if they miss the playoffs next year.

Go watch the replay of that 2-pt conversion..the reed corner blitzing was wayyyyyyyyyy offsides, not even close

I agree with your flacco sentiment, but its hard to argue with 11 TD's and 0 INT in teh playoffs and knocking off indy, denv at home, pats at home and the 9ers..you do have to give the guy some credit (even though I hate him)

I think it boiled down to the raven executing and the 9ers failing..how many crucial dropped passes were there? I can pick out a handful of crabtree/davis drops that were huge..also kapernick on the 3rd and 5ish from the redzone had crabtree wide open for hte first! decided not to throw when rolling right, looked like he was gonna run but then decided against it and just went to the ground, the 9ers had to kick a FG - it was lack of execution in areas of the game like that which really hurt the 9ers

yeah we think pretty similar of flacco. he played good and was the best QB during the postseason. but QBs are impossible to evaluate isolated from their supporting casts. boldin, smith (rice not so much), pitta and his oline had INCREDIBLE playoffs.

i agree with the niners failing, but as i said, what about the fake FG? the rice fumble? the failure of the ravens to make it a 2 score game late in the 4th quarter after 1st and goal? both teams made enough mistakes to justify a loss and both made a few nice plays to justify the win.

thats what it comes down to me. both teams played a good game and it was fun to watch, even if you didnt care too much about both teams (i wanted moss to win a ring, but apart from that, it wasnt a big deal). it came down to the final minute, and if its that close, noone is a "genius" and noone is bad coach/bad player.

definitely feeling the offside call, kind of struck my eye too during the live feed. gonna watch it again.

and absolutely agree with the missed chance late in the 1st half. colin is also very athletic and for such a robust and fast guy, i thought it was weird to see him slide their, a few yards away from the first down marker. idk, maybe you pick up 1-2 yards and maybe you get yourself a decision, or you pick up the first down anyway. its 21-3, you have nothing to lose

cmon guys why dont you go try and be a qb and win a superbowl. give flacco some more credit jesus. i dont like the team or him much but im tired of people saying he isnt that good. it's disrespectful.

Right when he started being all about God someone at the party was like wait, didn't he kill someone 10 years ago or something?... Yes, yes he did kill someone.

Last night was the running of Ray Lewis, when he wins a super bowl he runs through the streets looking to stab people. The people line up and then just run away and try to avoid stabbings.

Thank you. I don't care how good the offensive line was. Peyton Manning has a ridiculous offensive line. So does Tom Brady. And Joe Flacco outplayed both of them, along with Luck and Kaepernick. I mean 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions? Only Joe Montana has ever done that. There's no arguing with that.

And enough with this talk of Ray Lewis killing someone. No one knows that. No one was even convicted in the whole case, not even Ray Lewis' two friends who were more likely the ones who stabbed the two victims. Yes, he has been getting annoying with this spiritual shit, and that is coming from someone who has a Ray Lewis jersey, but that doesn't mean we all have to call him a murderer and whatnot. However, we can call him the greatest middle linebacker of all time.

right. they scheme around it pretty good though. quick passes, screens, draws and a lot more running recently than a few years back (they are good run blockers though).

the ravens passing games is as much concerned with the deep ball and the intermediate game as it is with hitting leach/rice out of the backfield and pitta on shorter routes.

flacco had AWESOME protection because they were able to complete deep and intermediate routes against two of the best pass rush defenses (niners and broncos) without anyone getting a hand on flacco.

50 bucks right here say that literally ANY NFL QB would look like a super bowl mvp with that protection.

its just armchair QBs saying that manning/brees and brady have good protections. obviously, their protection is not bad, but the schemes they play in and their awareness to get rid of the ball is also important. do you see rodgers or flacco throw the ball away? no, and thats why they are no top3 QBs.

and if you want other examples of what protection does to you: look no further than vick and rivers. both were solid MVP candidates in 2010 or 2009 respectively. then their olines fell apart. i follow both teams, chargers obviously more, and their were 4th stringers starting at left tackle, or not a single starting oliner healthy, and stuff like that. boom. vick got hurt several times (all in the pocket, hasnt been hurt while running in 2 years) and both threw ugly picks because they got hit before/during/after the throwing motion and they tried to make something happen when there wasnt really anything with this protection.

Well things just got interesting. Apparently Percy Harvin to Seattle for Seattle's 1st round pick and a new contract with Harvin.

I really do like being a Seahawks and Vikings fan. First Sidney then Percy. It all seems to work out! Hopefully Minnesota can make good use of the first round draft pick!

Pretty stoked right now, as Harvin is one of my favorite players.

The general feeling around MN had him gone for a while now. leslie and spielman never talked about him like he was going to stay with the team. i mean not being w the team the rest the season as nbd? not rehabbing with the guys who rehabbed AP?

Also, I think they got that first round b/c san fran was looking at him as well. Creating a bit of a market for him. B/c honestly he's an insanely good player but he's relatively small for how rough he plays and i just see injuries coming. He's also going to want an insane amount of money.

Glad he's at seattle instead of the 49ers as an vikings fan.

Seattle's gonna be fun to watch next year.

Pretty much all you need to say.

they were definitely one of the most fun teams to watch last season, not many other teams played with as much fire and intensity. i dont usually like watching defense but watching those guys fly to the ball was awesome.

I enjoyed watching them up until the 'skins lost to them in the playoffs just like they do every time :(
