Official NFL 2012-2013 Thread

yeah. its like every little eeny weeny call/non call gets blown out of proportion by like 100 times.

you could probably call holding/interference on every single pass play when youre going strictly with the rule book.

when the regular refs were in, the commentators (which build like 95% of peoples opinions) just said something like "thats part of the game", or "you cant call every contact" and shit. and now its like "oh my god, these replacement refs!", or "dont forget, these guys officiated northern iowa sunbelt conference III games a year ago, ive never even heard of that league, (laughing)".

obviously, there are fucked up calls. but thats more due to the complexity of the game than it is a testament to the quality of the replacement refs.

i think i have seen regular refs awarding teams 4 timeouts before when something weird like injury-timeout and shit happens. these rules are just horseshitly complex. what happens with a injury in the 3rd quarter? what if its in the 4th quarter, like a second before the 2 min warning? what if its inside 2 minutes? what if its the defensive team?

steelers defense didnt impress me at all. yeah obviously it was manning but i somehow dont expect them to be ranked in the middle of the pack.

broncos werent bad. but there original gameplan didnt work at all. they werent running the ball efficiently enough until the fourth quarter.

i am just not getting on the broncos superbowl hype train yet.

yea the steelers are in decline I don't see them doing much besides maybe playing spoiler to a divisional opponent

and rg3 was really fun to watch but he's not gonna last if they keep calling qb dives

the best qb ever. redskins are going all the way baby

our old brittle qp is going to straight murk the cheifs so have fun hiding during that game too..

broncos will be on top this year, and to whoever said manning would be hurt by the end of that game. SUCK IT EASY quar

qb

also, chiefs killed it this week hahahaha. i guess we'll see how the broncos match up against the falcons on monday night. I'm guessing we're not going to get owned half as bad as you guys, we'll probably pull off a W somehow cause that's what we do.. we win

although i am a chargers fan i see that the falcons got a lucky break playing the chiefs right now.

injuries are bad luck. i know people always say shit like "a good front office only drafts/acquires players with no injury history", but in the end, its luck. best example are vicks last injuries. all of them were a result of a play in the pocket (hitting his hand on a helmet after the throw, getting sacked into his teammate, getting hit/sacked after 2 seconds). people say it was "his style", but in reality, they cant protect him and people go after him with unparalled emotions of vengeance. obviously, you will get hit. look at brady or manning. both kind of "iron man" when you think of how many games they played. but they also had good olines and protect themselves pretty good (throwing balls away, ducking infront of a sacker). but two freak injuries/accidents later, they miss a complete season. a lot of bad luck and less being "injury prone". the biggest issue is just how you play through pain and still perform.

Interesting first week. My Bears looked good, though I'd like to see them establish the run game a little earlier. And it's great being able to cheer for the broncos again now that Teblow is gone.

lets not get carried away. i think it was more the saints being bad. i could be wrong though, but super bowl might be a little early

Super bowl is very early but I havent seen a redskins qb and offense play that well in a long time.

i can understand that and he did look promising. but they had a pretty high pick to be able to trade up for him and used a bunch of other picks to get him, meaning he wont get a lot of firstround talent around him in the near future.

pretty tough division also

ok, now i got it. SUPER BOWL!!

NFC championship game

49ers over bucs

AFC championship game

pats over jets

SUPER BOWL

pats over 49ers

isnt it horseshit to draw shit out of one game? i mean i dont like the packers or saints, but they wont play like this forever for example

dunno if someone else mentioned this already, but Tannehill's wife is really hot although seriously use some of that starting QB $$$ and get her some boobs.

This. This could be the era of underdogs and shit. We could see teams that have been in the bottom of the barrel pretty much their whole existence go all the way.

lol RGIII had a good game, but damn best ever?

lets not forget there has only been ONE black qb to ever win a superbowl and that was doug williams 1987 with the skins....and I don't think RGIII even compares to him.

Ravens have what it takes

Denver cannot be counted out

falcons are pretty solid

Pats/San fran/jets/gbay all solid. plenty of good teams this year.

We will see. Seasons pretty early to be talking like that. My Chiefs and the Chargers will be a tough test for you

yup. manning wasnt a happy camper in the past when he went to qualcomm or the chargers came to town.

and the chiefs wont be like this all year. when they get hali back, they will be different. i dont think that they are as good as anyone thinks, but the broncos arent the super bowl favorites, just because they could beat the freelancing polamalu and the unit formerly known as the steel curtain. its not the steelers defense from a few years, dont forget that.

chargers!

apart from a few plays especially at the beginning and in the last minute (although that will happen with a prevent D), palmer had to check down all the time. they also prevented DMC from doing ANY damage in the running game. so the two biggest strengths (DMC, deep balls on speedy receivers) of the raiders were taken away and thats the result. also some great plays by cason and jammer when they did try to go deep. a few ticky tacky penalties that extended drives, but all of them were good calls. especially ingrams roughing penalty at the end was just dumb on his part, but whatever, he recovered the onside kick to make up for it. the pass rush showed that he can get there when its a obvious passing down and they disrupted palmers timing quite often (although he did a nice job getting off his 1st read quickly to avoid a sack) in other situations. phillips, ingram, barnes and even english did a nice job there along with the Dline (reyes, liuget looked great). donald butler is one heck of a MLB. solid tackling, coverage skills and even got a sack (although a mop up of a pressure by phillips). really impressed overall with the defense. had a little fear that the raiders would run/play-action all over them, but they just bent and never broke.

the offense was solid. problem areas were obviously the red zone, if i remember right they had just one TD in four goal-to-go situations. but they were able to play it safe and get the three points after the defense and ST gave them hilariously great field position time after time. obviously, they have to do a better job scoring TDs instead of FGs, but the way this game went, they didnt have to risk anything, so i am kinda happy. rivers didnt force it like he usually does, his protection was far from the predicted catastrophic and the receivers looked awesome. the running game needs more firepower. maybe battle shouldve gotten a few snaps, brinkley looked good and ronnie brown was a top-notch free agent acquisition. glad they got him as an insurance for bambam missing time.

on the ST side, WOW! the first botched snap probably couldve been saved by lechler with any less pressure (i am a punter myself and i know how it is to have a ball roll all the way to you, he couldve gotten that one off), but they got in his face and forced him to bobble it. the second one was a good snap, but rosario just shot right through the A gap unblocked, i mean that will always be a block. the third one was the worst snap and even though lechler bobbled the snap once again, it wasnt his fault because the ball was so slow getting to him, he never had a chance to get that one off. the return game also looked good, royal and goodman will take a few to the house this year. been waiting for such a punt returner (royal) since sproles left.

According to research conducted by Sports Business Daily, NBC earned an 18.0 overnight rating for QB Peyton Manning’s debut with the Broncos against the Steelers, marking the net’s best regular-season NFL primetime overnight ever. NBC’s previous best was a 17.7 overnight for the Vikings-Saints NFL Kickoff in 2010.The figure is also the NFL’s best regular-season primetime game in 15 years, dating back to Broncos-49ers in December 1997.

im pretty sure that even in the final two minutes, if the clock is stopped because of an incompletion and there is an injury the team would not be charged with a timeout

yeah, seems like the theme with reid. i mean thats like my fourth year where i really watch the NFL, but thats kind of what you get to hear from philly games. throw throw throw, no matter if you have a solid RB, a probowl RB or a consensus all-pro RB in the backfield.

"vicks regression", i am not too sure about that. i think it has a lot to do with scheming and with oline play.

vick is one of those guys like rivers for example that have this reckless attitude and will force a ball here and there. obviously, this can be good AND bad, but a lot of times, a sack/thrown away ball is a pretty good play.

and there come the oline issues. i think rivers is a perfect example. last year, the chargers oline was horseshit until gaither came in late in the season. there was a significant correlation between rivers' and the olines level of play.

if you get in the face of "those" guys, they will throw up a duck once in a while. and the browns were in his face all day long, i would say they blitzed easily 70-80% of the time. i dont understand why they didnt make any adjustements. you know the eagles are a screen-heavy team, but in this game they didnt try to get shady the ball in space. give him the ball on draws, tosses, make them pay for the blitzing. that was the real issue. i know reid is one of those guys that wants to pass in order to set up the run, but he definitely goes too far. case in point is that game winning drive, they handed it to mccoy and he walked down the field with 10 yds chunks. also got the ball on a 4th and inches instead of a sneak.

a minor point, that almost cost them: when they were down at the goalline at the end (i think 2nd down, the TD was on 3rd down), they gave bryce brown his second carry. yeah guess what? loss on the play.

sry for balbalablabla-ing so much obvious shit, but i cant talk football over here, so i really appreciate all of you guys that make this possible for me :)

Sure, we traded away a lot of our future which sucks but the last time a similar trade was made to move up for a qb, it ended up with 2 super bowl rings (Eli). It will certainly be tough getting no 1st round talent, and we would be able to pull in a lot more free agents if we weren't being docked $18 mill for some bullshit, but we actually have a qb and his name is not weedon or tannehill which we would have had to have drafted otherwise.

If our defense can keep us in some games, then our offense might have a chance, and we go .5 I'm hoping.

after all the chiefs fans, i might as well speak for all chargers fans, that were mildly excited about that statement AT FUCKING BEST.

Im just happy this thread is dominated so much by the AFC west. Well atleast the people who post here a lot and talk football are AFC west fans. We are just missing Aiden-G for the raiders then we would be complete.

Week 2 NFL Predictions
Chicago at Green Bay - Green Bay
Kansas City at Buffalo - Buffalo
Cleveland at Cincinnati - Cincinnati
Minnesota at Indianapolis - Minnesota
New Orleans at Carolina - New Orleans
Houston at Jacksonville - Houston
Oakland at Miami - Miami
Arizona at New England - New England
Tampa Bay at NY Giants - Tampa Bay
Baltimore at Philadelphia - Baltimore
Washington at St. Louis - Washington
Dallas at Seattle - Dallas
NY Jets at Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh
Tennessee at San Diego - San Diego
Detroit at San Francisco - San Francisco
Denver at Atlanta - Denver

Philly's main goal is to keep Vick playing a whole season, which is why he's throwing more (particulary out of the pocket it seems). Sadly, what made Vick great was his out of pocket skill, definitely never going to be a great stand in and throw guy. Regardless of the Eagles NASTY defense, dream team 2.0 is once again overhyped.

i'd agree with most except i'd say the bears over the packers and KC over buffalo......and Atlanta over denver.

the packers lack of a running game and pass defense is a big hurt to them. I know they played the niners but the bears have a great defense as well. it will be a good one.

I put Packers over Bears because it was rare to see Green Bay to loose a home game and I don't think that the chances of them loosing two aren't very good. I put KC and Buffalo is a toss up, both teams gave up 40 pts last sunday so there really isn't a clear favorite. Lastly, ATL is going to be missing their pro bowl CB Grimes due to an injury in the Chiefs game and we all know that the most important group of players on the field when playing Peyton Manning is the secondary so I don't expect the Hawks to be able to maintain him. Theres that and the fact that the Broncos will shut down their receivers because they have pro bowl CB's Champ Bailey and Tracy Porter in the secondary. Add that in with Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil rushing the edges and the Broncos come out victorious.

yeah, i guess youre right. been watching eagles games since vick is on them and while he had this fantastic year in '10, the offense as a whole is not doing enough to build on the strengths of the roster and eliminate the weaknesses. they better do something about it, because you know teams will be watching what the browns did.

but in good news, this year, the defense will keep them in a lot of games i think, so the offense will get their chances to do what they did on the last drive.

the game vs baltimore was where reed set the record for longest INT, right? kind of remember that one.

while were on the baltimore subject, so its kind of time for revenge? obviously, the ravens looked good offensively, but i dont think there is an offense the eagles should be scared about. flacco will have his hands full, i guarantuee you that, the bengals werent able to prepare for the whole no-huddle stuff and that killed them.

all good reasons to your picks....and as it was a shocker to see the packers lose at home I think it will happen again simply because they have no rushing game, yes the 49ers defense is great, but so is the bears. for the entire second half of the packers 9ers game the 9ners rushed 3 d linemen and let the other 8 guys dance around in the field until a green jersey was by them and would knock down the pass or hold them to a minimal gain......I'm a firm believer that even in the pass heavy leauge we see now days you still need to have a guy who can pound out the yards in crunch time to pick up that extra first down. Especially against the pack, if you keep aaron rodgers off the field you will win the game cause the packers D will give up points.

I agree, especially with McCoy in ur backfield, they should have ran the ball way more than they did against as terrible a run defense as the browns, and they should also run the ball far more for the rest of the season

What im saying is the eagles think Vick is a top 5 QB who, if they keep him healthy, can win them a Super Bowl. The only way for them to really use Vick and keep him healthy is have him in the pocket. Stupid reasoning, since without his movement hes not nearly as effective.
