so, just for future reference (my first page/preseason predictions arent THAT bad)
on the eagles (i kinda root for the eagles since they gave vick this second chance 2 years ago, but its not my main team):
they play well, but have one or two issues every game that cost them (primarily penalties, turnovers and tackling). their defense isnt the total shithole like everybody says but doesnt win games for them. their offense also plays well but tends to turn the ball over to often. with only one of these units struggling, not that bad, but with both doing just enough to lose games, its bad, yes, but its definitely correctable.
of course they lost those games and with their mistakes, deservedly so. but its not like they had no chance. in fact, they should be at LEAST 3-2 or 4-1 when you look at all those games in detail.
vick is playing extraordinary. yes i said that. yes i know he "threw" 4 picks yesterday (the only one you can really blame him was the pick six imo, and if it had been brett favre throwing that one, everybody would be up his ass how great a gunslinger/gambler/competitor he is considering the huge hit he took on that play). but you look at his throws when hes given the slightest bit of time. fucking bullets. imo he is a top 3 intermediate (20-30 yds) passer right now. not as great when going down the field as last year but i guess defenses wont let jackson run past them anymore. yesterday, a dumb holding call cost the eagles the chance make it a 3-point game, against SF, maclin put the ball on the ground in game-winning-FG-range. i know vick will get heat now, but if you look at these games, HE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. and he doesnt get hurt WHILE OUT OF THE POCKET, so idk what you should blame him for. he shows up, he honors and deserves his big contract as well as or even more as any big signing of this offseason.
you can laugh at them all you want about how much money they wasted when in reality, they didnt waste all that much. they have a smart policy in place when negotiating contracts and got asomugha at a relative bargain (you cant tell me DAL wasnt putting 15 m/year on the table). they were a good team last year and felt like they didnt need much to really make a run. i know they are right now the poster boys for why you dont build through free agency, but mccoy, celek, cole, maclin, jackson, avant, patterson are legit players they drafted over the last 6 years (and a short research showed me that at least another 7 starters were drafted by them and some flex starters/quality backups).
they remind me a lot of last years chargers. a solid team undone by individual mistakes (primarily fumbles and a NFL highlight reel of ST blunders).
the bold prediction you are waiting for? here it is: the eagles finish 10-6 or 11-5 this year, winning this suddenly weak division and make a deep run (NFC champ.+), IF THEY WIN THEIR NEXT GAME.
or in other words. who, outside of the packers (NFC teams) would you bet 500 $ right now to beat the eagles? yeah, i thought so.
