How much is too much bike?

I'm currently riding a hardtail with 110 upfront and am planning on upgrading this summer.

I know people with ~130ish that say 170 is way too much and dont want any more and people that say the complete opposite.

Im leaning towards something 160-70 just because I can keep my hardtail and use it for mellower trail rides.

If it's a bike you can pedal 160 is definitely not too much. It may be heavier and bulkier bet definitely worth it on the down

Sweet, thats what I was thinking.

Currently looking at a Transition Patrol and YT Capra

I think the capra has one of the best price points but I've never ridden it. I demoed the patrol 3 this summer and it was insanely good

I’d look into a Intense Recluse or Tracer.

I might even swap my Recluse for a Tracer, but I’m not sure if I wanna have a bike that’s slightly more downhill than uphill.

I actually just want the best downhill performance possible out of a bike with lockable suspension. I won’t be doing any steep climbing just a little bit of pedaling if that makes sense. I don’t care how well it pedals or goes uphill as long as it does it better than a 200mm suspension DH bike.

The new capra is exactly what you want, its actually strong enough you could put a dual crown fork up front. but i feel like you would be just fine with 180 in the back and 170 up front. And it can still pedal

Anyone on here ride in the UP?

I'm over in Northern MN and I make the trip over 1-2 a year. Copper harbor, Michigan Tech and Marquette are all worth the trip. Other than keewanah and black rocks some of those breweries could use some work though.

If it’s 180 in the back it’s a done deal, I thought it was 170.

General question: Does anyone regularly ride bike park on an enduro bike?

hell yeah. Ive ridden whistler for 10 days straight on my 29er. rode it the previous summer on my stumpjumper. puts hair on your chest.

Would you rather be on the 29er or a DH bike. I’m about to buy an enduro and don’t want to regret this decision

Oh i would for sure rather be on a DH bike. But i dont wanna buy a DH bike so i just rode what i had. newer enduro bikes are so capable now its pretty crazy. you'll be fine in the park.

I’m searching for my first bike right now... climate change has switched me to investing in bikes instead of skis.

On that note I’ve been searching around Pinkbike and craigslist for awhile and have come up with a few ideas. My top right now is a Giant Trance Advanced 1 due to a few people selling them. They seem like a very high quality enduro bike, less bulky than the reign, as I am looking to do a lot of pedaling. Next I’m thinking about an Intense Tracer or Carbine, again pretty similar but personally I enjoy the lower center of gravity from the Giant Trance. Top it off with the Santa Cruz Nomad or 5010 given it’s a good price.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Any links to good deals would be greatly appreciated! I’m also not trying to demo a bike due to the pricing adding up but local sales around Colorado could allow me to try em out. Specs I’m searching for are about 140-150mm travel in the rear, 27.5, size large, 1x11 drivetrain. Other than that I am open to suggestions!!

thanks

Why do you have a bell on such a rad bike?

It’s just a bell, bud, not wheel reflectors or something. Haha Thousand times better to announce your presence to hikers/runners than yelling or skidding, they can hear it further away and already be out of the way when you pass so you hardly ever have to slow down.

I’m just saying if I hear a bell I’m expecting a little girl on a pink huffy.

I like yelling. Or just making noise.

That’s why I’m stoked to have a Hope rear hub on my new build. If hikers can’t hear me coming with that thing, I’m not sure a bell would change anything.

Bells are cool though.

My hub is pretty dang loud but the sound of a bell travels much further.

Alrighty well I just got a year old 2017 demo Marin Attack Trail Pro 27.5 for $2k. Figured its a good starting bike and is worth $6000 brand new so if I dont like the bike, than i can probably break even on it.

anyone ride east coast? Thunder mountain Bike park is tremendous -- Northern mass right near VT. Tickets are $45 and they have some great trails. Obviously Highland is the shit and always has been. Killington is getting up there with some of the best trails too -- gravity logic has turned Killy into one of the best in the country for sure!

New Whip! She's from 213/2014 (I think) but I'm stoked to have a functioning bike again! Intense Carbine 29

I was looking at the Intense Carbine or Tracer. Let me know how it rides cause it might have to be my next bike! There are pretty good deals on them. She seems like s pretty good enduro all mountain bike.

I dig jumps near the river shore in Pittsburgh PA and I went down to see how they were looking after winter. When I got there I realized they were under a foot of water. Should I rebuild them or find a new spot?

You think it'll flood again? Sometimes rebuilding stuff is fun and because you've already ridden it you're able to tweak it and make it better. It'd be annoying to rebuild every spring though

All of the lips are underwater and the clay is probably ruined. Sooo

Lol you might want to find some new trails then.... sometimes working on trails is fun if its nice out and you're with friends.

I am sad to say, starting to get into the enduro category. I ride a custom kona process 153, with a float x2 rear and a yari front. Full raceface components (sixC, atlas). Defiantly need all that 160 mm up front as I need to pedal to descend the trails i ride.

Got it used for a pretty good price, still had to shell out though. Would highly recommend getting an enduro bike, this one is the 2015 nomad 3 cc

Sweet. Yea i've ridden them and I love them. I was looking at various Commencal bikes.. Still not sure whether I want to shell out 2K for their bottom of the line Rear Susp Meta... it's so tempting though

True, but honestly its 100% worth it. I would recommend browsing used bikes on pinkbike, I got my bike for around 50% off the original price

New agro bikepacking rig has been ordered. Now I just need to get a new gravel bike to join the Hightower LT and round out the quiver. And I need to sell some bikes.......

I'm ready to pull the trigger on my first bike and was thinking that there has to be some kind of cool pedal company out there, but have no idea. So, does anyone know of any really cool pedal companies to look at for DH? I feel like there's gotta be a company that makes dope pedals like some cool pole companies in skiing. Maybe I'm wrong but if someone knows what I mean and has an answer for me, lmk haha

Anyone want to buy a 2014 Kona Entourage??:

-2016 Marzocchi 280 CR fork

-Deity integrated stem

-Deity Pedals

-Azonic Outlaw wheels

-Odi Ruffian grips

I'm too old to be busting my ass on DH trails... Hurt myself last year going OTB and sorta want to switch it up and go Enduro... I can post pics if anyone is actually interested. It's a great bike. looks brand new

Damn dude. I wish I could I could justify a dedicated bikepacking rig. to have a bike between the fat bike, gravel bike and the trail bike is just too hard.

What do y'all think about fixies?

like an actual fixie or a single speed? I think the simplicity of a fixie isn't worth how dangerous they can be.

Where I live having a single speed just isn't practical. Too many hills.
