I'm super light so I'm not gonna snap anything with my own weight either. But, I clipped a tree stump with my pedal and the bike flew more or less derailleur first into a tree at a reasonable speed. I wouldn't be surprised if that did it.

So are the hangers universal or something? I saw that people carry them and thought it was a good plan. Everything works now but I'm gonna get one anyway along with tires.

No, they are not universal.

Any good helmets with MIPS that don't look super dorky and aren't outrageous on price?

Currently looking at Fox Metah, Troy Lee A1, and Giro Montaro

The fox forefront is a great helmet. Find someone you know who works in the ski industry to order you one on Experticity.com for fiddly five percent off. I've never even heard of the metah.

ive definitely fallen out of MTB since last year. Too much snow too much skiing to be done, too much permawinter.

Was the last time you went mtn biking with me in NZ?

Are breaking those very common? Don't think I've ever broke mine or talked to anyone who has.

Have had and have known many people with derailleur problems, but I don't think it came from the hanger.

Bending them is fairly common, and when you try to bend a super bent one back straight they can snap, which was what happened to me.

I'm in new bike lust mode. Starting to shop so that I can have a new whip built by next season.

Still conflicted between 27.5 Plus and 29. Looking at the Santa Cruz Hightower and the Kona Process 111, probably going to build up from a frame.....I really want to go with I9's and GX Eagle with Guide RSC brakes. We shall see though...The Hightower would be an easy choice but it only comes in carbon and I just don't think I can afford that unless I find a L or XL frame used on PB or something...

So much stoke, and trying not to think about my wallet.

Get an Intense ACV..

But man go for the Santa Cruz. And get the 29. And don't be afraid of carbon.

YT Jeffsy 29 decked out for the price of a Hightower. Only problem is they're basically sold out of everything.

Eh, was thinking about that today (and thinking about an Evil Following) But, I love my LBS, and honestly, over the life of a bike, I'd rather cut a deal with them on a brand they carry, which is Kona, Devinci, and Santa Cruz. It just makes the most sense financially.

No. Couple weeks after I got back from NZ I was riding single track in BDRP. The weather was gorgeous for it.

Then nuclear winter came.

Santa Cruz's Tallboy would be a closer comparison to Kona's Process 111 than the Hightower.

Tallboy is the Hightower's little brother; 110mm of travel compared to 135mm, still converts between 27.5+ and 29, and comes in carbon and aluminum options.

That makes sense. My vote is for the High Tower LT if you're set on 29ers.

Yeah......

But.....Bleh, Process 111 is very much at the short travel / less downhill capability end of the spectrum of bikes I'm interested in. I really don't want less bike than that, which I think the Tallboy is? Basically I want something that's fine doing long, long days wandering new trails in the backcountry, but that can also give me 3-4 Teton Pass / Bike park days a summer. Which I realize, the Process is probably too little bike for, but the reviews I've been reading have me optomistic.

I don't need the Hightower LT, to be honest the Evil Following seems pretty perfect, I want that 130-140 ish travel bracket with slack and long geo...

I don't know, I'm still very much in the "lusting after anything new with 2 wheels and a dropper" stage, when really, I'm still falling for my current bike again every ride.

I have been starting to look for something sort of similar Cy, and I know its not on your brand list (but it's on mine at evo) is the Transition Scout. Saw the Transition owner riding the new one at Galbraith today, and he was stoked on it.

The Scout is up there as one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden. If I were to get a bike with less travel than my Ibis Mojo HD, it would probably be the Scout.

I've ridden the Process 111, Hightower, and Tallboy, and would personally consider the Process 111 to be the least fun and capable of the bunch. I really enjoyed my time on the bike, as Kona makes some really fun bikes (Honzo Ti is so fucking fun and badass), but I found the Tallboy and Hightower to be more fun from what I rode.

The Hightower for me was a tank. More point and shoot than finesse. Definitely rides like more bike than 135mm, in both wheel sizes. The "quiver of one" in the bike world...it does it all.

The Tallboy was nimble, playful and stable. Not as smooth and supple on the rougher descents, obviously, but still more than confident and capable of handling what you throw at it.

All three bikes would technically fit your criteria, but with the intended bike park usage, I would personally recommend the Hightower as it would be the most versatile in your scenario.

Word!

That's really helpful, thanks! I demoed the Process 111 and really loved it, felt super poppy and playful. Yeah, it really does seem like the Hightower, or maybe the Hightower LT could be the way to go for me. The more I thought about it last night, the less it seemed like the LT might be too much bike. Only bummer is that they both only come in carbon. Not that I have anything against carbon, but I'd way rather get an aluminum frame with a nice spec instead of a carbon one with a less nice spec.

I forgot, my LBS does also carry Rocky, but I really don't think there's much there I'm interested in, although I am going to try to demo a pipeline.

For now though, I'm happy to keep lusting after bikes I can't afford as I save for them...

Also, I just keep thinking about that mustard yellow Hightower LT with light blue I9's, a Lyric, GX Eagle, and a Chromag cockpit.....

I have horrible bike lust for Öhlins... I have very few complaints with my current Boxxer or Vivid coil, but I would drown a bunch of kittens in a sink for a TTX and the fork that Bruni & Finn have been running.

I know that I should have this same lust, but I don't reaaaaaaly want coil, that bad. I don't think. Although, that Push rear shock.......

On a trail bike, nah. That's what EVOL (and equivalent from other brands) is for. I rarely notice the difference.... until I get on coil suspension. I freaking love the coil rear on my Giant Faith and always forget how smooth it feels until I sit on it. I just wish I could afford to lighten up my Faith by a couple pounds. It weighs as much as a small tank for being a single crown with an air fork.

I'm kinda going through the same thing at the moment looking for a new bike this spring. I have an awesome trail net work in town where I can ride probably 30 - 40 miles of single track without leaving town but we also have lift access to some real DH trails. I enjoy the longer days of not DH but usually buy a pass or two during the summer.

I'm actually looking at a Giant trance. They modernized the geo this year and you always get your money's worth with giant.

I'd honestly recommend that both of you try out an Intense. I'm loving my Recluse.. it climbs and descends super well.

I owned the original trance back when it was 4 inches, and that thing was damn fun and capable. The Transition Scout is the closest thing I've ridden to it since.

Went OTB at the bike park a few days ago and bruised a few ribs...ouch. off the bike till crankworx i guess. anyone gonna be there?

also MSA this weekend......who is watching? Pullin for Danny Hart. Favorite racer for sure.

Busting ribs sucks... nothing you can do but wait it out, which only adds to the suckiness.

I'm hoping Bruni can take another win. He's been so insanely smooth this year, so awesome to watch. I also wouldn't be sad if Minnaar took another win and kept adding to the GOAT status. I have no doubt that he can keep racing as he gets older (ala Peaty) but I do wonder how many more wins he can still put together. I don't think he'll be able to keep winning for too much longer, so it would be nice to see him add some buffer between him and Gwin in terms of total wins.

When Gwin wins like that, I will always be ok with it.

Wow. Holy fucking run of the century... That was even more impressive than Sam Hill's 2007 run at Champery, IMO.

What tire pressure should I ride? my bike is a hard tail and I ride lots of jumps, roots, rocks, and the dirt can sometimes be pretty dusty

How much do you weigh? I person who weighs 100lbs can run less tire pressure than someone at 180...

I weigh 135

If you are using standard single ply tires with standard weight tubes, you can run between 25-28 psi in the front and 27-30 psi in the rear. That range is even subject for debate, but it will give you a good starting point to see what works for you, your riding style, and your trails.

That seems pretty low (like you said, up for debate). I only weigh 115 and when I used to ride tubes I got flats almost every other ride if I rode anything less than 28-30psi. Been riding around 25psi tubeless (give or take a few depending on conditions) and haven't had a flat once.

I ate shit yesterday. Bruised my collar bone and dislocated my shoulder on an aspen tree. The one time I bring my gopro is the one time I've ever taken a big digger on this trail.

Any recommendations for good downhill pants when its wet/raining? Been getting way to wet this weekend in pouring rain riding in shorts so it may be time to order some pants.

Crankworx was a blast. Rode 10 days straight and cant feel my arms. Stoked on this photo of me 29ering down In Deep

Also, those grips I have are super fuckin red. Im not sure why they always appear to be orange? Maybe its because of the ribbing and shrooming design.

Used to bike a lot. Moved up to Houghton MI. Theres some great trails in the area and copper harbor is 2 hours away. Just bought myself a nice little 2017 Stance today.

I'm excited

Anyone have experience with White XC 275 Lite 17?

I'm looking at a decent hybrid from Merida vs. this. I haven't had a MTB in years, just old ass straight-sitters and hybrids. Would mostly be doing commuting, but if it's a MTB then the forests beckon me.

Any experience with this model?

How much is it? I know Whyte Bikes are great but I've never heard of White Bikes. If you want a capable and affordable hardtail for both commuting and occasional trail riding, look at the Giant Talon 29. 29 will be faster for your commuting, and if you're riding non-technical XC, it'll be faster on the trails too. You get a lot for your money with Giant bikes. If that White bike is around $750ish or less, go for the White because it's got marginally better specs on it. I've just never heard of the brand.

Going to school in Washington specifically bellingham and I need some new tires, anyone have any recommendations? I ride a 27.5 enduro bike looking for someone 2.35 preferably 2.5. I'm currently riding a dhf in the front and a WTB vigilante in the rear, thanks.

I'd stick with that combo! In Colorado I ride the High Roller in the front and the Vigilante in the back and love the combo. DHF is probably better for Washington though.
