The stance is a sub $2000 bike because they don;t use industry standards that will allow you to upgrade your bike in the future.

It's a nine speed which means rear spacing is weird. Also looks like a 9mm quick release on the fork. the extra $600 for the entry level trance is worth it.

Ok mountain bikers of ns I need your help. I am trying to decide which is the best bang for my buck. I am new to MTB'ing, however, I used to race bmx and rode lots of trails, so I do have experience. The two bikes I am considering are: a 2006 specialized demo 9 with brand new azonic outlaw wheels, brand new pair of shimano saint m820 brakes, new clarks grips, new bars, raceface cranks, fox dhx 5.0 rear shock rockshox, domain front forks, and new Clarks rotors or a 2013 Norco aurum 2 with DT Swiss F630 wheels. The first bike is $1000 and second bike $1250. Which do you think I would be better off with?

that demo frame is mighty old.

As long as the arum is in decent shape id 1000% go with that.

The aurum does appear to be in good shape and has had all the work that would need to be done completed (replacing front fork seals and bleeding breaks etc). Would it still be a better value if I have to pay an extra 100$ for shipping making it 1350$ and I could haggle my way down to 900$ on the other bike?

you only plan on riding bike park? or shuttling? DH bikes are very narrow in their purpose and entirely useless outside of it.

Trails as well as DH at mountains with lift service. I plan on going out west next year where I would be riding mostly DH and mountains with lift access

there is a very very very large category between hard tail and DH rig and it has never been as strong as it is now.

Look at some all mountain bikes. something like 150 - 170 mm travel. If you don't mind 26" wheels there are probably quite a few steals out there right now.

Like mentioned above DH rigs are a pain in the ass to pedal and the middle ground bikes are very capable in this day and age.

Stafford creek is pretty darn underrated from both a fun and views perspective. Maybe I'm getting old, but getting sendy is starting to lose its appeal every weekend... I'd like to do a good bit more exploring and BC riding... interspersed into the usual shuttle/park day haha
 
Came home for a week for thanksgiving break, and it rained every day. Dammit! I really wanted to ride! There's always next year I guess...

The trails were drenched. You really don't want to ride when it's muddy, because you'll destroy the trails. Put huge ruts in otherwise smooth singletrack

I mean, dirt is dirt, and if the trails are rained on a reasonable amount you'll do damage to them regardless of drainage or dirt quality. This is in upstate NY. Trail crews ask that we don't ride them when wet, because it will damage the trails

Not where I'm at haha. If we couldn't ride when it rains or trails are wet we'd have about 100 days a year to ride. Just gotta be on point with drainage when building, and try to just use mineral dirt on the trails.

It also helps to put in your fair share of trail work to make sure the trails stay good.

Sucks that you area has that policy/those conditions though. It's no good when you're cooped up inside for too long.

That's pretty nice you can ride when it's raining, normally it doesn't rain over here but when it does rain the trails will get sopping wet. Then some goober who has no idea what he's doing rides around in the mud, and once the dirt dries the previously pavement smooth trails have big trenches.

I'm actually on the trail crew, and we use a lot of clay. Great for getting the trails packed down and smooth, bad if some chump rides through it when wet. I've had to fix the trenches made by muddy day riders and sometimes we have to completely turn over the trail to get it back to normal. It's really time consuming, so the trails don't allow rainy riding

MTB trails shouldn't be smooth IMO... unless we are taking about jump trails

Most of them are pretty smooth because they're supposed to be really flowy. Lots of climbs, berms, and rollers. There are plenty of parts though with roots, loam, and rough sections of trail. Those parts don't need work as often though

Guys! Has anybody ridden the Ibis Mojo HD? Preferably who has also ridden the Turner 5 Spot?

Please help me make a decision here.

Keep my 2009 Turner 5 Spot, which I love. This is the original sale ad for it, and I haven't changed it much since this ad was put up a few years ago aside from adding a dropper post, and converting to tubeless. It just needs a bit of love to keep it going.

I could keep my 2009 Turner, which has 2013 suspension on it, and save money for a european trip I've been wanting to save for. In which case I could just upgrade the shock, brakes, and replace the bearings on my Turner. But at the same time, I have this guy haggled to $2k, which seems like a really good price for the bike with 2016 suspension on it.

Even though the Ibis is Carbon, the weight of the two bikes is very similar. The standover is similar, the reach is similar, they're both DW platforms. On paper they're very similar bikes, that just happen to visually look different (and the Ibis is 4 years newer).

Has anyone ridden both these bikes for comparison? Any input is helpful!
 
Just purchased my first mountain bike. Trek Marlin 7 to shred Ohio trails. I was able to get a massive discount also so stoked

On another note, just bought a condo through a realtor I meet in the back of a shuttle truck. As a house warming gift she got me a really nice 3-bike rack for my 4runner. Pretty damn sweet!

I moved to Portland and realized that CX is the most painful way to have a ton of fun (I still love XC though). Anybody else like playing in the mud?
 
what are good websites to get parts? I've been looking for a new fork, but nashbar, jenson, etc have limited parts on their sites

Have you even bothered to check the pinkbike classifieds? I feel like it would be very easy to get a pretty decent 3 year old bike for $900. What size are you looking at?

large or extra large, I'm not the one buying it though, its a Christmas present from my parents
 
Anyone ridden a Specialized fuse? Looking to buy a whip for front range CO riding this summer. Rode a full sus (Specialized camber) last summer, it got stolen, RIP, and now I'm looking at nicer hardtails around the 1500 mark.

The fuse looks awesome, decent fork, dropper, solid drivetrain components

I'm a little weary about 27.5+ wheel though. I've ridden bikes that are 27.5 and enjoyed them. Thoughts homies??

Any bike suggestions are welcome as well
 
What are your guys thoughts on Diamondback bikes? I'm in the market for my first decent XC setup, probably going for a higher end hardtail because I don't really need the rear suspension for Florida trails
