Clipless is the only way to go on a road bike forsure. Try it out there and if you love it, try it on the MTB bike. As far as pedals and shoes go if you're just a casual road guy there's nothing wrong with buying a MTB shoe and pedal for your road bike. That's the way I would go, and I know a lot of people who do it.

I've definitely sold a lot of MTB clipless set ups for people on road bikes because you want really walk in road clips too well. So if you're out for a ride on your roadie and wanna stop at a bar or to get some food walking is hard and the cleats arent really made for it.

I was in Washington and Oregon last week, and it really is ridiculous. I went to Steven's Pass for a few days and it felt like it was mid-March in NH in terms of Snowpack and temperature.

Yep I kinda just gave up on skiing for now haha. My pumptrack has taller rollers than the Mt. Hood snowpack

what don't feel bad! Skiing has sucked this year, seriously sucked. I have barely paid off my pass i think. But i've biked all winter long which has been rad as fuck.
 
Not sure if there are any fatbikers here, but yesterday I did my very first fat bike ride, which was also a 15 mile point to point snow bike single track race. Right off the couch, no training.

3.5 hours later and my ass was kicked.

anybody have any recommendations on pedals? i just picked up a kona coiler but it has composite/plastic pedals and im skeptical about them. i would prefer some metal ones and to swap those over to my old bike that i use for getting around campus. thinking of crank brothers 5050 2's but im open to suggestions

I really dig Deity pedals. They've been burly enough to survive some pretty hard hits for me.

Anything crank bros besides mallet pedals are notorious for falling apart. I would look at deity, vp, or straitline if you want tons of grip.

I've been wanting to try some Deity Compounds for a while. My Wellgo MG1s are holding up pretty well though, so I haven't had reason to change them. I'm interested to see how the Compounds would handle pedal strikes as I had the sound/feeling of rock strikes on the metal pedal.

I have compounds on both my trail and slope bikes. No problems in about a year of hard riding on both. Even if you do break one, you can get replacement bodies for like 20$.

I had the Dee-Lux version from the same year. That thing is a beast. Sucks at climbing and is really heavy for a 5" bike, but damn does it slay downhill harder than any other 5" bike I've ever ridden.

This is my Bike. I call it the Batbike. I like to ride it fast. It spends most of its time on campus paths, but I take it out on some single track a few times every summer to keep my street cred high. Shout out to my mud guards for keeping my pants dry and attracting the all the ladies.

yeah dude. i rode it around campus a bit today and it was kinda a bitch going up steep hills but damn, that thing mobs. also just threw some giant original mtb pedals on it, definitely an upgrade

ive had that bike for 9 years, i went out to ride it to class this morning, and the lock was cut and lying on the ground and the bike was just gone. its a 2006 specialized hardrock sport, so nothing really nice, but damn, fuckin inconvenience that i dont want to deal with, plus now i have nothing for getting around campus

That sucks man. Keep an eye on craigslist and the local thrift stores, and then beat the crap out of whoever did it.
 
Anybody out there ride an enduro? Probably gonna order one this week and trying to figure out best size for me. I'm 5'5 and about 135 lbs, so not sure between small/medium. Any input would be appreciated!

ime 5'10" and just ordered the medium specialized enduro expert carbon...i would say get the medium...sounds like you're growing and will be grown into it,if you're older than I'm thinking and not growing get the small..for the record i ride a large demo 8 vs the med...bigger can be better

Small would be perfect for you. I'm 5'2 and 115lbs and the small was a little too long for me. The standover and reach was too much for my style of riding, but somebody just a few inches taller than me would be perfect size for it. It's much larger than the size small 5 Spot I have or the old small Coiler I had.

Be prepared to be muddy at the end, but that place drains like a sieve. The lower trails drain worse than the upper, but it pretty much never gets swampy.

Otg could have a flood hit it, and be good to ride 5 mins later it drains so well. EMBA fucking killed it on the build.

I have a 2012 Realeigh Talus 2.0, got it cheap, replaced rims, tires, seat, and just ordered new grips. It's really lightweight.

I'm just going to expand on this since I didn't really explain. Anyways, my friend sent me a link to this bike on craigslist and said dude you have to get this. We were both very skeptical that it was stolen or something was wrong with it because of the price. So we went out and looked at it anyways. Turns out my friend knows the kid, and his parents bought him the bike years ago and it has just been sitting.

He had no idea what the bike was actually worth and is moving and was just trying to get rid of it. The bike did a little bit of a tuneup and I need some new parts but I have been riding at the last three days and I have been having the most fun I've had all winter. I'll post pics soon!

Excited to get back on the trails soon. I only really had my Farley on the road and open packed trails this winter, I almost considered trying to put drops on it...
