Official Jazz Musicians of NS thread

That's awesome! I was there for the U of M jazz festival in like February, but not since then. I'll try to get to a concert soon!.

there are actually a good amount of serious trumpet players here. shown by:https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/661440/

and also here's the band at my school I played in last year. i'm playing second trumpet (left side), all members were freshmen besides 2 sophmore clarinetists that are learning saxophone.

Playin lead trumpet my senior year in the essentially ellington competition in NYC with my high school's top big band.

check this out if you want to hear the hippest vocalist in your life

Wow did not expect there to be this many jazz players...I play bass...in school mostly electric cause we play a bunch of fusion stuff and the teacher likes the sound more....but i play mostly upright outside of school and I enjoy playing upright much more

I was listening to pandora and this sick trumpet solo came up so i looked up the artist his name was hugh masekela, then i looked him up and he turns out to be sal masekelas dad, the host of the x games. Pretty sick

Here are a few videos of the Garfield band a year or so before I came into the program; I couldn't find any current ones.

Went to New Orleans on a class trip 2 weeks ago for a music theory study at LSU. Such a great city, especially getting tanked on Bourbon Street. Also got to see Galactic perform with the Soul Rebels and Trombone Shorty which was probably one of the best shows Ive ever been to.

I'm a small-time jazz fan, but I've got a buddy who has his own jazz band, they're starting to get serious, have a look!

Relevant:

I have just started to scratch the surface of jazz guitar and I love it. I do not claim to be a jazz guitarist however. My goal is to one day be able to improv over giant steps.

Haha I wish! That's at Essentially Ellington in New York. Wyton runs the competition. Some of those videos are 2009, some are 2010.

I am a drummer and used to be in the jazz band in middle school. I wish Id have continued through high school and to now but the band teacher was a doucher. I recently found out about Monk and Ellington and I ant stop listening to those two. Cannonball Adderley is a straight up boss too.

He'll yeah guys I'm glad this thread popped up again, I'm playing a big band concert tomorrow, sophisticated lady, in the mood (doc severenson), and in the stone are just a few of the songs we are playing. I'm stoked!

Hey, a thread I can contribute to. I play first trombone for put school's "B" jazz band (the bad one), but I should be in the A band next year. We didn't play much, but some charts turned out pretty good. I think we did pretty good on Count Basie's Jive at Five, can't find a video though.

DUnno if this has been posted yet but Dave Brubeck died a couple days ago and he is one fantastic Jazz cat. Take 5 and Blue Rondo A La Turk are amazing songs

RIP Brubeck

Bump just had a jazz concert last night and after i heard some dope trading i thought it would be sick in an edit with like two skiers (like b and e do with wutang)

Been playing electric bass for 6 years, just been getting into jazz in the last twoish years. Really want to learn upright, just dont want to drop 1500 on one hahaha. But Thelonius monk, Tito puente, and Marcus miller are where it's at. But Latin Jazz takes the cake.

Just got back from Essentially Ellington in New York and I figured I'd bring back this thread. Definitely the best musical experience I've had. Watching the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in person was fucking nuts. Unfortunately, we didn't make the evening performance (Tucson took 1st, Jazz House Kids took 2nd, and Roosevelt took 3rd, with Dillard getting an honorable mention), but I figured I'd post one of the songs we played in the prelims.

I'm the clarinet player. Hope you guys enjoy!

Good to know that there's'some jazz player here! Im a drummer myself (ive played for about 9 years now) and i was real keen on hiphop last year but i gotta say that having hours of jazz jam session is one of the greatest thing ever!
