Official GTA IV Thread

I just played for a few hours, the driving physics are kinda crappy, it was lagging a bit on my xbox360, and the multiplayer interface is a little lacking. Otherwise it's wicked sweet.
 
I finally got the game and it's fucking crazy. That Jamaican guy is fully wack breda. One Love. HAHA!
 
ha, i'm about 50% of the way through and i've long since given up on driving anywhere. i just take cabs to save time.

fun game i did with my friends, get a helicopter and get to full speed, as you pass over times square, jump out and see how far you can fly. Farthest so far is in what would be central park. You can actually survive this jump/fall as well if you aim carefully.
 
I rented it the other day and after a couple hours of playing ive gotten to bored with it to keep playing. The missions are to much of a pain in the ass to do over if you mess up.
 
Are you serious? You open up your cell phone and hit "Restart Mission" and it brings you right back to the start of it. It has never been easier.

Try dialing 4825550100 and then 4865550100, then light up a J and fuck with some cops. If you get bored of the real game, this is endlessly entertaining. Cop chases/fights are way better in 4. Then you just don't save at the end and your cheat-free game save is left untainted.
 
Legit game for sure.

It's a nice change from Call of Duty 4, which is the only other game I own for my 360 (also a sick game)
 
except for the part when you have to do the pointless driving again. The combat mode also sucks in my opinion, but ive never really been a fan of the games anyways
 
Pointless driving? The driving is fun as shit, once you get decent at it you can make some crazy shit happen. And the combat is great, way more complex than previous GTAs but you can still pick it up fast. I donno, I guess if you're not a fan of the games that's one thing, but I find myself laughing out loud constantly at all the outrageous shit I can make happen when I start causing mayhem.
 
The game is awesome but does anybody else notice that you cant do anything without getting a star? About 75% of the time that i steal a car or run over somebody I get a star. And one time i ran into a cop when i was running (not in a car) and I got a star.
 
Yeah, you can just start shooting your gun at the sky and you'll start racking up stars. I didn't like it at first, but honestly, that's how it would be in real life. Given how much more realistic they made this game (in many aspects, obviously it's way over-the-top in others) it makes sense. And seeing as all you'll be doing is missions (which clear stars when you start them) or causing mayhem (which you want stars for) I quickly realized it's not too big a deal. Sure, it's annoying sometimes, but I don't really mind it any more.
 
i actually find it to be the opposite. In the old games if you did so little as tap a police car when you were stopping, they'd get out, drag you out of the car, and you'd be busted. In this game unless you ram one going 110mph they don't really care as much. I love being able to fight while being arrested too, because getting busted once you have tons of weapons really just sucks.

has anyone else done the bank robbery with packie? cause that mission fucked me over so many times.
 
Well....what would happen in real life if your sprinting down a side walk, knock over a cop and keep going? Or run another human being over or steal a car?
 
Yeah i guess some aspects are more lenient and I do like how you don't automatically get busted its just a pain when your trying to go to the bar with one of your friends and you get a star when your not really doing anything wrong and then you have to loose the cops.

Yeah i just did the packie misson, its so tough cause you have to keep them alive but you have cops shooting at your back.

i'm wondering when i get to unlock a new island. i already killed Vlad and just did the mission where you go to the sex shop and buy the uzi so when do i get a new island and who do i have to do missions for to get it?
my options are LJ, roman and the coke addict drunk guy w/e his name is
i need motivation to keep going b/c i think i'm really close but if it's like 20 missions away/ i'm doing the wrong thing let me know

haha no man i'm not ready to give it up i just want a little change cuz all gta games are boring at the beginning but once you unlock the first part of the map they get a lot better so im just wondering how long i've got
 
The driving is horrible in this game. The motorcyles cant turn worth shit in this version. Or the fast cars. You lose mad missions because of it.
 
maybe pick different cars for the missions then? Pick a car that can take a beating and handles well but is still relatively fast. If you just take a sweet sports car out everytime you're going to lose.

I'm almost disappointed to say that i beat this game, and i'm only at like 64% completed. There's so much other crap you need to do to get 100%.
 
No, sorry but the driving in this game is sick, it's very realistic. You prob are just flooring it going 150 expecting to make tight turns, which isn't gonna happen. I really like the driving, it's alot of fun just driving to the missions and all around the city, weaving in and out of cars and drifting around corners. This game is sick
 
the driving is sick, it's so easy if you're not an idiot about it. you can't floor it like in the other games, you have to slow down around corners and if you want to corner well tap RB and you slide around but don't hold it otherwise you'll do a 180. just take it slow and it's really easy to drive on a mission because the new navigation system is so much easier. no cars in real life can hit 150 and then cut a 90 degree turn while still flooring it, they just roll, so in this game it's just harder to turn while going fast instead of your car rolling everytime you hit a corner with speed. so just floor it on straightaways but slow down for corners or drift, but that doesn't work unless you hit RB for the perfect amount of time, usually just a tap
 
i find it really hard to drive full speed on a bike and shoot someone, the biker mission is really hard, i keep hitting him a bunch but then crashing really bad and he gets away in like a second
 
You can't kill most bikers till a little later in the chase. It's corny but it's true. I've unloaded on a biker and he didnt take any damage. Plus the strategy guide even says just wait to shoot. After a certain point is when you can start killing them.

But I will say this, driving in the rain is rediculously fun once you get good at it.
 
it also pays the hospital bills. for some reason as you have more money, it costs a ton more. I think right now it's costing me about $10,000 every hospital visit.

Anyone else flown the annihilator? that thing is ridiculously hard to fire accurately with.
 
Yeahh once you get over a half mil its a good 30 grand per visit.

But I hate the annihilator, its kinda pointless if you ask me. You can't wreak the havok you used to be able to in the old military helicopter. Thats a huge thing I miss in IV, no military stuff to crush people with.
 
No, having shitty cars make driving shitty, go get a lambo or something and drive it, you'll outrun anything

hospital bills are probably determined by a % of how much skrilla you have, which would mean that now that you have lots more $$ the doctors charge you $10,000
