OFFICIAL ***Great Divide Park Blog****

haha i heard that someone aired over a girl in the landing, thats so dangerously funny. i'll be up there tomorrow, should be a good last day

Better than last years closing day park. Pretty good for what they had to work with. Pretty sub par compared to the bar Great Divide has already set.

it just would have been nice to have a rail or two that was actually half decently maintained

Ya, I would have sacrificed a jump to fill some inruns with snow instead of dirt and rock and another to setup a few rails.

why? sure its not the craziest, but its super fun to just mess around at late season or whatever

It was incredibly bad each time i went.

Once in January - about 4 jibs setup (only 2) hittable and fun, 2 10ft tables and a 35 dollar lift ticket

This last Saturday - all the rail taken out, and a BMX track for a park......literally. $20

terrible.

i agree with aj the park this year was no where near as good as it has been in the past it was a huge let down, the best it was all year was the first few weeks they were open when pope was still there and it was like 12 jibs

but to be honest, MOST people, (at least the kids i went with, and im pretty sure kip as well) didnt go there to shred a huge gnarly park. we went there because there was snow, lifts, and it was cheap. we had a damn good time not taking anything seriously.

well, except for when i dove through gravel, that was not so funny. and yes kip i know, i should turn my din up hahaha

im not just talking bout this weekend im talking bout the whole year in general the park sucked compared to the past years, ill give chris credit it was his first year building a park tho

haha, that would be me -- spread eagle of her little pink helmet, scared the shit out of her though, hopefully that's the last time she stands in a landing.
t'was a good time though

Great Divide may not have been as good this year as it has in the past but I will still continue to support them for several reasons.

-IMO it seems like they try the hardest out of any mountain I have been to to provide the best ski experience they can. They may not have as much to work with but they make the most out of it

-The pond skim; They built three ponds and several banked turns, had it open for 2 days and on Sunday gave away t shirts and prizes. Big Sky makes you pay $30 to get one or two hits and give the customers of their overpriced mountain a free show and wreck yourself.

-The park, even thought it wasnt as good this year they have been pushing the bar in the past. They have always been innovative and good at working with what they have by building features out dirt, wildwood features the wallride, and expanding their snowmaking. Anyone remember the mine shaft from before the park was on Rodeo?

-They run a lean operation. Season passes haven't increased in 3 years, $9 tickets in the fall, free Wildwood jam, $19 spring tickets or $1/ride is a pretty killer deal. Plus they have been able to expand snowmaking, update equipment and build new features such as wildwood. How many other ski areas have you guys been to where the owner helps load lifts?

-They stay open for the diehards. November opening and they stay open until the bitter end. It may not be great but at least they are there for the people who want to come up. Riding a lift beats hiking or skinning in the spring IMO. Did you know that you can go to jail for uphill travel on Lone Peak? The shitholes known as Moonlight Basin and Big Sky can call the sheriff and have you thrown in jail for trespassing. I realize it's their private land but that is taking things to extreme.

Those were the first things that came to mind but there are many other reasons why I gladly support Great Divide.

OK, Lone Peak is a cool, picturesque pinnacle with some cool terrain but is overpriced, has shitty snow cover, and is full of rich deusche bags who like to act like they are from Montana.

Don't get me wrong Lone Peak is sick but I dispise everything else about that place. On closing weekend my friend and I missed last chair by 3 chairs, 2 pretty looking college girls got on in front of us at Moonlight and walked back to the lodge. No big deal, we might have been in the wrong but we were walking back no big deal. 3 patrollers were waiting for us, one of which was the head patroller and he started telling us all the people that went to jail that year because he called the sheriff. Holy shit, power trip much.

Last year at BS my friend bought a two day voucher and the girl who was supposed to bring his snowboard didnt show. He decided to sell his tickets at a huge loss (he was trying to sell a two day voucher for less than a day ticket) Some guy came up to him and said "how much for the ticket" and acted like he was buying it but it was a sting and they called the sheriff.

There are many Many MANY other reasons why I hate his place (BS/MLB) and hate supporting it but Im not going to whore the Great Divide thread with it so if you want to talk about it move to a new a thread or PM me.

it takes a lot more to run a place like bigsky or moonlight, then it takes to run the gd, i love great divide and its my home mountain im just saying the park situation is going downhill and needs to pick up and not a single new feature that i know of has been built since pope left

haha. first thing said to me when off the lift from kip was to turn my din up. later we we were playing on that hip, and i tried to 450 it. i thought i landed fine. proly a little backseat as in touch my toes. i double eject.i turn around to get my skis. not two seconds goes bye before kip and kevin say you need to turn your din up. hahaha.

but anyways i have also been to great divide only twice but had the exact oposite feeling. i loved it. its fun to play around on, fun mountain and they like to have a good time. im not sure exactly what time they shut off the lifts. but i think we took off after five or so and the lifts were still running. its leggit when they'll just keep the lifts running as long as there is people in line for it. got my skis scratched up a bit but i cant complain it was a good time this time and was last time too. exept i would have liked a few rails that would have been very nice.

p.s. kip i turned my din up

you sir are a douche bag. GD SUCKED THIS WEEKEND NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE! they had one shitty tank with rocks in the landing wild wood is dope but are you forgetting rust cause that is sick to along witht he big air> big sky and moonlight may cost alot more but they are also the biggest skiing in america and prob one hundred times more terrain with high spped lifts> way more workers a legit park crew> all these things cost money compared to a two person slow lift with the owner of the mountain running the lift and his daughter selling tickets> the mom selling food and prob all the uncles to> bigsky kilss gd>

^hahaha no one has any business camparing GD with bigsky/moonlight in the first place lol. but GD does all right for having a fraction of the money and snow lone peak does. plus it sucks huge dick paying for a BS ticket cuz i aint a rich kid!

after skiing gd twice this year (this past sat and sunday) i can safely say i will DEFINITELY return. you guys have a fun mountain up there. especially, i would think, if more lifts are running. but i had a great time. nothing like getting in another closing weekend.so i guess thats officially it for montana till beartooths open up?

i think im gonna go try and set up some rails at bridger this weekend. anyone know where they keep em?

we attempted to do this at the beginning of the season, because they keep them under the lift... but they were chained up and locked... unfortunately.

hmm. if all else fails well take the crappy ones that are down by that bar/restaurant by the parking lot

i dont have a car, and none of my buddies is really big enough... its also supposed to rain so who knows.

under the deck of the deer park lodge last year there was a ton of long pvc pipes we took most of em tho, but ya they lock up there rails, the grizzly rails might still be out but there pretty rusty

exactly, thank you.
for all the people who were hating or saying it sucked, and comparing it to big sky, you can't. Big Sky is a huge, huge area, that generates millions of dollars and has thousands of skiers and hundreds of employees. My season pass is $200 dollars for next year at GD, what is Big Sky's? and how many lazy park crew members are there at big sky? no hate, but at the most GD has 2 park crew guys. I thought they did a hell of a good job this year, setting up good stuff and mixing it up, with just 2 people. Someone said that Gd hasn't made any new features since Pope left, but he left mid-season. How in the hell would they make new stuff during the season? GD is a fun, chill local place to come have fun and shred a good park that's maintained by good guys. No hate to anyone, but i'd rather have my home mountain at GD than Big Sky.

its not to hard to make shit mid season, bigsky seems to manage it and i never compared it once to bigsky, i compared it to previous park years at gd, and for u to even say that the park crew kids are lazy u dont know a fucking thing dude about what those kids do all day, they have the dopest job that allows them to ride but there at the hill working by 8 every fuckin day doin shit u dont even know about man so before u dawg on those kids whom all rip harder than any kid at the gd u should think about what the fuck ur saying cause those kids will eat ur face not to mention THEY BUILT THE BEST PARK GD HAS EVER SEEN FOR STATE SKI AND SNOWBOARD

Your gonna call them lazy!!?? That just ignorant.

it also is true that the BS park crew made the dopest part GD ever had. i would rethink your judgements

and you dont think its possible to make new stuff during the season? i dont even know what to say

Whoo guys this is not the thread to hate on GD and BS so stop postin! both places are awesome and each has its quircks but argue some where else cause this getting rediculous and you know what they say about people fighting on the internet ha

when i went to great divide this year at the end of march it was so dope there park had a lot of pretty big features but was kind of poorly maintained and sketchy. They also had good tree runs and a really chill vibe not to mention 19 dollar tickets. I will definitely go back there next year. Big Sky is fun too but dont even try and compare them they are so much different

next year it would be dope if u had a flat rail to down box sumwhere on the mtn. lol. i was there last weekend, when the ponds were there, it was pretty fun but the lips to the jumps had been so worked

i highly doubt it. think about how much snow was there last week, and how hot its been all week. and the lips were worked cuz it was like 70 degrees hahahaha

easy there man, no need to get worked up. i guess i didn't say it, but all that i can say about the big sky park crew is what i've seen, and i haven't seen much. all i have to compare it to is the GD, where pretty much all we have is Chris. he sets everything up and maintains it basically by himself. as for making stuff mid season, again, we have 1 person who would do that. and i'm pretty sure his number one priority is making sure stuff is decently maintained, and not making new stuff. like i said, they're totally different areas, very hard to compare them. i love skiing big sky, but i also love having the atmosphere of a chill, local mountain

Hey don't expect me to put down my bag of cheetos, get off the couch and touch my fucking skis unless it is a 2ft bluebird pow day. Fuck after 4 years I still don't know how to use a shovel either.

haha, ya know what issac, i appreciate you hard work all year. this season the park was legit as fuck, and i had a blast. so fuck the haters

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^BIGSKY > GREAT DIVIDE
THERE IS CLEARLY NO ARGUEING THE FACT. NOW SHUT UP

WOW... your hating on a family owned area, i am pretty sure that is rare to find and most people find it very cool that the whole family works hard at A FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS.
we just laughed at everyone complaining about closing weekend and our prices, if you dont like it go find your own snow and hike! (it was $1 per run)
If you are a Big Sky fan ... Good for you! If you can afford go for it!
oh and Ryan, pope left the second week we were open... obviously there has been good stuff built since he left.. there are lots of kids here that can hit our park and learn from it, and have a good time here, and they can kill it!
to Kip and Ben and Jake thank you for supporting and actually understanding what Great Divide is about!
