Bear with me, the reason I don't put this in Media and Arts is the usual excuse, but it's the sad truth. M and A never gets traffic. Whatever the fuck you need to say about GoPros, say it here.

What is better for shredding, the 960 or 1080? The 960 has a wider field of view.

Well, they both have an 170 degree angle of view at 1280x960

and 1280x720, so the 960 does not have a wider field of view. In my opinion the 960 is worthless for skiing. For the cost of the Helmet Hero you get 1280x720@60 fps, which imo is the a good thing to have available for filming skiing. You also miss out on the BUS port if you get the 960, which means you can't get any of the new Bacpack attachments (LCD screen, Batterypack etc.) The 960 also of course doesn't have 1920x1080.

the regular HD hero is a much better buy. However, 960p is great for POV. much better than 720p or 1080p imo. then 720p60p for filming your friends skiing. and 1080p for filming lifestyle stuff like swimming.

Anyone know if there's any compatibility issues with Lexar cards and the HD cameras? If so i'll just get san disk.

i was more pointing out that you said 1080 is wider than 960, but also it isn't as wide. am i missing something or was that just worded very confusingly

960 can be better the 1080 for POV as its a squarer field of view. You dont really need a huge wide frame size for POV shots. So using 960 allows you to have almost the same height as 1080 but use alot less memory on the card which means you can film more. Both 1080 and 960 are good, and if your filming for an edit which is going to be 1080 res then obviously you will probably want to use 1080. However if you are not editing it with other fottage 960 can work very well for POV shots.

ah I see! I meant the frame size of 1080p mode is wider and taller than 960p, but the angle of view is lesser in 1080p if I'm not mistaken. It's 120˚ as opposed to 170˚ or something.
