Unpopular opinion:

After spending like $200+ on a rod there’s not much difference in what rod u buy. Only the length and weight matter at that point not price

Fly fishing has become my new obsession in the last year, it seems like the more money I spend the fewer fish I catch

there’s like a thousand threads on this already but fly fishing is dope. i just got into streamer fishing and man seeing a big trout come out of a logjam and eat is so exciting

I’ll cast a big fucking magnum Dolly lama further than any of you fucks. And I’ll do it with a rod that’s $800 more than any of yours. Come fight me.

I've had a few friends doing it for many years and always wanted to give it a whirl. Never done it. Did get some normal fishing in a bit last year.

Maybe since I'm stuck in America I'll give it a whirl this summer. Idk, probably not just gonna buy a rod and go on my own. If I try it with a friend and dig it I'm down. Seems awesome though and some of my friends can't wait for winter to be done so they can go on fishing trips.

my (kinda) unpopular opinion is that pike on the fly are some of the most fun fish to target. they eat pretty much anything you throw at them, fight fairly hard, and can get absolutely massive. im a sucker for throwing massive, colourful streamers with rubber legs and other goodies and watching them get absolutely tourqed by a big gator. my other go to is smallmouth bass. tons of fun on a six weight, they fight like lil aquatic pit bulls

Dude fly fishing for pike is so much fun, they fight like motherfuckers.

carp are super underrated too. one time i was out on a lake and there were hundreds of them sipping mayflies, but they’re essentially blind so you really have to sneak up on them and place it right in front of their nose. They go nuts once they’re hooked

dude I love carp. I have yet to target them on the fly, but every spring they travel up river near my house to spawn. those mfs get big and fight hard enough to empty a spool. once caught a 25lb in less than a foot of water. carp are massively underrated, but I think people are starting to come around to them thanks to Joe Cermele and his field and stream articles about how much he loves them

we git a cicadia hatch of some degree every year

last big one was 13

heres an old tr

yad think it would be easier to find a buzz song from jcs to skanky hoes twerkin to ccftw

If youve ever dealt w/ the

their big loud ugly and usually show up en mass on a 17 year cycle.

If you happen to find these spruce gooses of the insect world near a what should be a wild and scenic river filled with troots

well game on

the cicadias seem to show up every year on the river corridor some years more so than others.

Fond memories of my midwest, limited entomology, no haul havin being able to pitch giant bugs mid river and smashing strikes back around the turn of the century

After the fire

there really wasn't the #ers that really key the fish into the big macs w/ wings every season

and

I don't tie very well or much, but a bro hooked me up w/ a few Chucky C cidadas

Floated into what would be home for the next 4 nights

kicked back and enjoyed a buzz while listening to the cicadias males creating a buzz lookin to get laid

got up n out early and minus the part where I decided to let him and the fish sniffin furkid stay in the boat for red creek blew the crux stokes and ended up on the rocks it was a stellar morn.

Don't look so sad god it's only day 2 and take out don't mean go home

bro really wanted to float an A so we endured the 1 hour launch wait and the clusterfuck that is summer at the damn put in

not wanting to throw down a BENNY for a shuttle every day we drove 2 rigs and by the time we self shuttled it was 3ish and the crowds had dispersed, seemed they were a little big bug shy and a lot more refusals, the dropper scored it's share.

Hit little hole bout 7 and the

were out in #ers

continued to throw the big bugs reguardless

[took a little bit but K got the hang of boat control fairly well, let him row washboard while I stripped the big junk.

Nailed a hog but broke em off

floated into camp for one of those memorable alpenglow sunsets that is what makes a river experience so much more than the pursuit/catching

the next day the furkid and k slept in, but I rowed up to dawn patrol and huck some junk

We had shuttled to pipeline the day before so we had plenty of time to fish the water hard and downsizing flies in the froggier water produced

bro rowed me into this phatty bow

the lower rivers in awesome shape

peeps luv to bitch about high flows /releases and the river fishes a bit tough @

vrs.

but those flows really help the c

way to hot to be hangin out in swallow c during the afternoon but fished great to pipeline. A few more smaller fish

but if they could fit their mouths around it

Plenty of

w/ 9-noon being the peak hatch

Headed back to dj

you know you just may b a redneck if your toy hauler looks like this

They continued to gobble the big bug

some subtle takes but most

were of the

variety.

That eve/afternoon the heat driven thunder boomers formed over the Unitas and provided some clouds and relief from the heat

and the eats were coming fast and hard.

switched off every fish or 3 strikes and your out . Funny how rowing comes kind of natural to some people.

Rolled into camp o dark thirty and chowed well again

my bro's hall pass expired sat. I had told the mrs. I'd be home sat and fix the damn irrigation water system, but had paid for the camp

and she was out on another goofy ragnar, rim 2 rim, zion to capital reef, ultra marathon team run thing so fuck it the furkid and I

decided the garden and plants needed some hardening and we need to do some more fish sniffin

were on the water by 6 that morn

K put a few more in the net and by then had the castin mojo workin we pulled out round 11

always cool to turn someone on to your home waters and when they tell ya their fishing experience bar has been raised to the next level well if that don't make ya smile sumthins fishy

He helped me pull one more shuttle and hit the road back to his fam. I'm sure his kids were stoked as shit to see the pics and he has plans to get them up there sometime this summer/fall.

I swamped a good bit of trips so the drive/row by shooting/stripping thing is somethin I'm fairly decent at, getting a decent dry drift solo is another thing but Pulled the classic let the line get to close to the safety implent while lining the boat up and looked up to a melted line leaving the guides w/ the last of my not chewed to shit cicada performing the perfect drag free drift only to get eaten just as i'd gained momentum and was gonna have a shot at saveing it you know it got chowed.

plan b

worked out pretty good

wasn't done fuckin up that eve.

Despite my better judgement and knowin damn well if I hooked up in washboard rapid it'd be interesting if not potentially stupid

I let er roll hooked up a pig thought i could get er in the net before needing to row. Not a whole lot of rocks in play at that flow

Got er in the net but the few feeble oar strokes i managed weren't enough.

ran the tupperware mothership up highside rodeoed off the rock and let er go after i quit shakin then laughed the laugh ya only do when you pull stupid shit and no ones around to see it.

still had plenty of friends camp to keep us company

It rained a bit and the pooch is comin up on 8 years of shared river experiences so he's been slowin down a bit nappin more and not as stoked to get back in the boat early morn and late eve.

don't think he was to stoked on the highside rodeo manuver and he sure as hell had had enough of me puttin them damn screechin bugs on his nose

so he dreamed doggy dreams probably involving bitches

Thankfully didn't rain enough to bring RC into play

I drempt that night of spinners

not this kind

but the 5'2" 90lb kind I used to be into pursuing before the old lady, untracked powder and fishes consumed my time

Set the alarm and figured if I got out early I'd beat the mrs. home

One minute to roll

waked and baked bucked camp got the groover/turds packed and was on the water by 5:30 lit em up pretty well that morn

till the sun came up and the daily buzz started managed put a few where they needed to be long enough to get chomped

Ran into a couple of fish slayin siblings who i'm indebted to for sharing their knowledge of that place and their newfy god skeena

shared a few tasty beverages and shot the shit

let them furkids do that which they were bred to do

fore ya know it it's 3 pm and still a 1/2 mile from the take out funny how that shit happens.

some damn fine

ftr im a card carrying member of the insane coho lips club Mr Dahl started

but i missed the cominsky park melee

threw the tupparwhere mothership in for a few hours fri fore the winds cranked

theve been puttins the tigger muskies and wipers in our reservoirs to help control chub/shad populations and the higher ones have ice offed the past couple weeks had a till noon wind window

IMG_7205_(2).JPG

spent the early morning throwing 6" junks to no avails while the troots rose

finally downsized by 1/2s and scored the troots trifecta

IMG_7206_(2).JPG

IMG_7214_(2).JPG

IMG_7212_(2).JPG

winds cranked up

IMG_7216_(2).JPG

managed to anchor up in a bay and score a few more rainbows

were water fucked and its gonna be a tough summer for a lot of waters

Here for rod recommendations. I’ve got an echo glass 2wt, and a 3/4wt tfo which I’m looking to replace. Trout fishing east coast. Maybe something a little beefier for the occasional trip to get bigger fish. Lemme know what y’all are using and think is the best bang for buck

I was chilling on the river last night when an old guy shows up with a tall boy Budweiser in his hand.

He says to me "Every time you go fishing is another day added at the end of your life. Same goes for sex. I tell my wife if we ain't havin sex then I'm going fishin. I'll probably live to 300."

He wasn't even fishing. He was just drinking beer in the river with his waders on.

dudes talk down on bait fishing but like I catch way more fish than you with my bobbers and corn?

Just make sure you’re running a single hook and not a treble, and that you’re not fishing from varny to quake if you’re fishing with bait.

also if any of you ever make it up to Flathead and say hi, I’ll give you a patriot mayfly since it’s my favorite fly right now.

Anywhere I can fish sunnies?

idec about big fish it’s just so fun to rip sunnies out of the water cause they’re so dumb. When I used to do dock maintenance as a life guard you’d be underwater tightening bolts while they jus stare at you from like a foot away, used to reach out and jus bop em gently with the wrench to scare em but they’d just come right back.

you can catch a sunny, toss it back in the water and then catch the same one 5 minutes later- they just loooove corn.
