im at a loss...can somebody explain to me why Greece advanced over Russia? I thought the defining factor of a tie in the group stages was goal difference but Russia's goal difference is 2 while Greece's is 0. How does that work?
 
I think Spain will beat Croatia and italy will beat ireland.

To the guy wondering why Greece advanced, the tiebreaker isnt determined by goal differential, it goes head to head first, so even though theyre tied in points, greece beat russia so they advance
 
Ya its bracket head to head, 1 game only. If it's tied after 90 min they go to extra time then shootout if its still tied
 
Haha love hockey terminology in Euro - extra time is golden goal I believe, then penalties. Anyone confirm that it's golden goal? I know it's not silver goal anymore.
 
after playing loads of fifa 11, I am with you that golden goal is the next round after a 90 minute tie
 
its not golden goal overtime, its two 15 minute halfs and if that doessnt decide a winner then they do a pk shootout best of 5 shooters.
 
it was golden goal from 96 on. in 04, it already was silver goal, because greece advanced via a silver goal against the czech republic if i remember correctly.

nowadays its 100% back to the old stuff. so if its tied after 90 minutes:

2 times 15 minutes extra time

if its still tied

each team gets 5 penalties

if its still tied

---------------------------

sudden death penalties

And for the OP, god you have great fans, it's amazing. I was rooting for Ireland against Italy. Although I know you hated us for Thierry Henry's hand some years ago... which we all frenchies thought was unfair. But we paid the price with a terrible world cup. Many teams would probably wish to have your fans
 
spain got lucky. croations got two clear penalties denied (you could also give spain one, but that one wasnt as clear). and rakitic had the best scoring possibility of the whole game.

ok, they are through and everything, but refs and fucking goddess of luck have to stop sucking spains dicks.

if they pass the ball around 40 times its called "cool", "experienced" and "they control the ball and the game". but if ANY other team does it, they have no clue what to do.

i am kinda mad. germany is my favourite and they also didnt play too well. but right now, there is no other team that looks unstoppable. as weird as it might sound, but i would say that england and france could do more damage than most people think right now.

 
haha not too big of a problem for me since France has always been my number 2 team. Revenge would be sweet.
 
Should have watched Italy vs Ireland.

At least things happened on both sides of the pitch because Italy sometimes acts ridiculously casual and sloppy.

Also those Irish supporters are great.
 
@Lawrence yeah wanted to, but shitty swedish tv decided to show that game on a channel you have to pay extra for. and my friend is a mega spain fan, so we were kind of forced to haha.
 
I'd like to leave a good old fashioned: "I told you so," to everyone in here who laughed when I said Croatia would give Spain a really tough game.
 
Its gonna be tough for England/France/Ukraine coming out of group D knowing that Spain and Italy are sat there waiting for you in the next round.

I fell good about Portugal at the moment as they have had three matches against quality opponents and made it out of the groups, I just hope they don't take the Czechs for granted and get sloppy. There's every chance of a Germany re-match in the final.

Who does everyone reckon is gonna get out of group D...? is France & England a done deal, just in what order?
 
My predictions for tonight:

England VS Ukraine: 2-1

Ukraine has home turf advantage but England has the way better team. And Shrek look-a-like Rooney is playing again for England. Shevchenko is Ukraine sole hope of a victory or equalizing.





Sweden VS France: 1-2

Sweden has nothing to really play for apart from entertaining their crowd. But let's not forget they have Zlatan Ibrahimovich who can singlehandedly win a match for the team for which he is playing, and he has been excellent in controlling the Match vs England.
 
^^well for me personally, I just hate how they play because they usually dive a lot more than most players, and also I'm a France fan so I'm still a little bitter from 2006 lol
 
As much as I hate Spain and wish you were right, their goal was on side. During the replay I couldn't believe it, but they were no offside.

COME ON! The ukraine player (sorry, idk the name) who passed the ball before the goal assist was obviously offside. It all happened so fast, the ref couldn't whistle it but he was offside.
 
Yeah, the shite commentators on ITV said they reviewed it and was offside. So at least if we win, it should be fair
 
damn mobile. feel sorry for Ukraine and that zlatan goal was top class.England look like Chelsea in white butte they have Andy instead of Drogba and Parker instead of lampard hah
