OFFICIAL Election Thread

yeah but check the popular vote.....much closer.

clinton won electoral college without popular vote.....republicans whined, nothing happened.

bush won electoral college without popular vote.....democrats whined, nothing happened.

i hope obama calls on mccain and mentions specific area he agress with mccain policy and will work together with him. ideally i wish he would dispatch biden to moeet with mccain to try to bring the parties together and pass some centrist legislation ASAP.

Id like to dedicate my 5000th post, to an Obama victory.

Regardless of where you stand on the issues, red, blue, or somewhere in the middle, you cant deny that this election is historic.

If you went back 20 years, even 10 years, and told the average person that soon there would be an African American as president, they would have looked at you like you had 3 heads. Obama's election has shown that this country has taken a great step towards true racial equality, where everyone is TRULY seen as the same.

McCain ran a good campaign, and while I may not have agreed with him on his issues, he is a respectable, and incredible man. I wish he would have run his whole campaign like he did his concession speech, so the world could know how honorable he was.

Ive enjoyed these debates (for the most part) and I hope that if I am still here on NS in 4 years, it will be just as enjoyable.

My props to drew., skiminnesota, quinny, V.., and the others that i am forgetting that have been able to the most part respectfully, and thoughtfully voice their opinions.

I know that i thanks to these threads have gotten to know Justin (skiminnesota) a lot better, and regardless of our total disagreement on the issues, we can still be friends based on our common love of skiing.

I think thats everything i wanted to say, other than that 5000 posts is a lot on this site, and definitely not something i thought would have happened 3 years ago when i joined. NS has brought me alot of good times, keep it up.

True, but i think it will 'widen' a little more by the end of the night. to that respect, it's easy to say that 3% is a small margin, i agree, but right now it translates to almost 4 million voters.

i see this as a small step. theres a difference between barack obama and a black guy with an xxl tall tee, baggy pants, a flat brim, and bling. so until all black people are acting like barack, i don't see much change. until all black people start assimilating with the "typical" white person, i don't think racism will disappear.

I figured as much with the result. I still think McCain was not the best choice for the Republican ticket, and the results seem to support that.

Optimistically, I find it hard to believe any of this is as "pivotal" as some people say it is. Pessimistically, things will continue erode, just in a more left direction. At least now the Democrats have no scapegoats if they turn out fucking everything up now that they control both congress and the executive branch. It'll be interesting to see if any "sweeping" changes come about, of if its just more hyped up crap.

And would all the "FUCK OBAMA" and "IM MOVING!!!" kids please shut the fuck up. You're all fucking hypocrites just like all the knee-jerk leftist assholes that were pissing and moaning after the 2004 election.

until people stop thinking a typical black person wears tall tees, things wont totally disappear.

very very well put ben.

o and if you guys think we hate each other nothing could be farther from reality.

we may not agree on much, but we are both AMERICANS, and that is something to be cherished. there are few countries in the world where a political process can be run like ours, america will face challenges in the future, just like we always have. but america will live on.

Mitt / Newt, in 2012!

I say great that we have a black president elect. It shows how far we have come in our struggle with racism.

With that being said fuck every white guilty liberal motherfucker who wants to give slave reparations to brothas who can't even name a slave ancestor of theirs.

You can tell he's holding it back with all the might he can come up with, huh.

nice job to anyone who went out and vote no matter who for....truly is a historic day, something that non of us will forget....missed mccains speech but i bet he was a clas act...waching obamas now.

USA

Yea, he is really good. This is an excellent speech. But then again, we might just be too used to Bush's, and he wasn't nearly as good as Barack. I'm loving the story about the old woman.

Shit dude, i dont know what the fuck your talking about. I havent changed, I'm still real. Still American. Voting Obama into office is funny. Cannot wait for him to give all his homies jobs so they can be wealthy. I can officially say my Generation fucked our country. Goddamn hippies fucckkked us long and hard.

good speech. just wait for the inauguration...as great as that was, his inauguration will bring a tear to my eye fo sho

haha so i did a shot everytime he said change, only did 4. thank god i didnt do yes we can, cause im drinking warm five o clock and he said it like 10 times.

Haha! I was more hype for this than I was for our own election. Weeeeeeerd up to Obama, he's a straight baller. I feel a bit sorry for McCain though, he seems like a decent dude and was probably a victim of circumstance (maybe like Dion here). Anyways, sick night, history just went down...wooooooooo!
