Popular vote is meaningless right now because the majority of votes are from Indiana, Kentucky and Florida... three GWB wins in 2004. The fact that Indiana is even in play is a problem for the Rs... and while that 10% is a small number, it matters where the 10% is FROM. In Indiana, South Bend, Gary and Indianapolis have just started reporting now (actually I don't think Gary has started yet) and those are predominantly Democratic districts where Obama could get a large proportion of his votes.

I don't like either of them, but I've come to the conclusion that Obama is the more conservative candidate on the issues that matter to me (especially foreign policy). So I slightly prefer him.

Here is how I see this playing out.

Obama needs to hold Pennsylvania. If he does, he can take pot shots at the following states that Bush won in 2004:

-Ohio

-Florida

-Indiana

-North Carolina

-Colorado

-New Mexico + Iowa

-Nevada+Iowa

If he wins one of those states or groups of states (or others totalling 10+ EVs) he will win the election. It might not get that far. If he wins more of those states, Penn might not even end up mattering. But I'm thinking that it'll be the lynchpin of his map by the end of the night. McCain needs to win Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania to have a good shot at winning this.
 
This election is not between mccain/obama....its whether or not your comfortable putting sarah palin next in line for the top job.

Penn just declared for Obama. 103-34. Checkmate. In the words of Chris Matthews, "The Strategy of the McCain Campaign has just crashed."

Now all Barack has to do is take pot shots at all of the other coin toss states... and add Missouri to that list.

It's not odd at all... the % in is not as important as where that percentage COMES FROM. If Obama is leading but all of the votes from urban centres are included in that number and none of the rural votes are, he's fucked, because all the McCain votes are waiting to be counted. This is why I'm hopeful for an Obama victory in Indiana despite the fact that McCain is ahead right now...

Because 0% of Lake County precincts are reporting right now. Fuck yeah!
 
The most hope I've seen is the Florida numbers. Florida is a bigtime swing state, and Obama is CLEANING up in the traditionally democratic areas, and barely losing in the traditionally Republican areas.

It's early yet, but a good look for Obama in Florida.
