You see, you're going of right, but also kind of wrong. Yes they are basing it off of AFP points. No it doesn't come down to who travels to all of the competitions. As you may or may not be familiar with how AFP actually works, they take your top 5 results (which also depends on the ranking of the event, silver, gold, platinum ect.). So really, you have to have 5 good results to have a high AFP ranking. Which if the rider is good enough, should mean he/ or she could just ski consistently and push the sport so hard in 5 events to obtain say an X-Games spot. As far as I'm concerned everyone that has an X-Games spot has worked their ass off for it and deserve it based on how they've skied in the last 2-5 months or the previous season. So as far as you being blown away about one person who hasn't competed much in the last 2 years at all, I'm not surprised an X-Games spot wasn't received. The triple was INSANE and so sick, but as far as I know he has only landed 1? Correct me if I'm wrong. But if doing 1 triple could get you an X-Games spot, don't you think other people would just blow off all of the other contests and just try them? Which undoubtedly would ruin the competition scene in my eyes. I am not hating in any way shape or form on Dane, just helping validate why he doesn't have a spot, the same as many other people in this industry.
