Or Grizzly Paw, also amazing.

And I never see it in store, but Jumbo Wild for a good medium blend.
 
3 or 4 BIG spoons of Folger's (I know it sounds gross but you get used to it) in a new filter, pour the water amount of 1 big mug over it and you're good to go.

REAL MEN DRINK THEIR COFFEE BLACK.
 
Dammit do I ever hate flavored coffees. My roommate brought back some hazelnut creme nonsense and it's the only coffee we have left. It's overwhelmingly fake tasting.

Still need to get a hand grinder.
 
Oh, and I don't know if this has been addressed in this thread before (not going to re-read the whole thing) but has anyone here ever tried roasting their own beans? I'm interested in trying it. I've heard that you can use a popcorn maker or just your oven. Anyone know anything about home roasting?

Really? That's something I hadn't considered, but that makes a lot of sense. Is it overwhelming? How'd the beans turn out? Would you do it again?

When I roast at home I do it outside, and the Roastery I work at has some crazy vent system

Drip is fine but the whole attitude that its superior to espresso drinks and youre better for drinking it is retarded. That would be like a dude who drank nothing but liquor bashing beer drinkers for being pussies.

That being said youre all pussies because my cup of coffee every morning has like 1200 calories and 90 grams of fat
 
I used to drink my coffee with cream and loads of sugar. The other day I was midway through my second cup and decided to add some sugar to my black coffee. Had to pour out the entire cup, how the hell was it so bad... I used to drink that kind of shit all the time.
 
black coffee, as long as it isn't too strong. i can't do creams or sugars anymore. i think my body knows that all it needs is a caffeine hit and not the other crap, so i've trained it well.

Hey now! I don't mind a flavored latte on occasion, but I kinda outgrew it in my coffee drinking age. Wha tI was referring to (can't speak for others) was the shitty flavored grounds, like those God-awful Dunkin Donuts blends and the other similarly bad "deluxe" brews like Vanilla and Hazelnut and shit. I hate it. Just leaves a damn chemical layer in my mouth. Plus, papa's gotta watch the weight and phisique. Beach season, biotch!!!!!

I was the same way. I used to cream+sugar it and all was right with the world, but I slowly outgrew it little by little. Occasionally I'll put a little sugar in my coffee, and it's just not as good in my opinion. Brown sugar is slightly better. I also found that cream+sugar make it get bitter quicker. Maybe it's just me, but that seems to be the case.
 
i never add sugar to my coffee, i'll use a bit of maple sometimes, but thats more for flavour. However i do like using cream. it kind of reflects on my cooking a bit i guess. ive always been big into heavy foods, like a lot of french food, or risotto or whatever. its good for energy too, in a pinch i can only have a breve for breakfast, and still be fine for a day of skiing. nutrition is a very opinionated subject, but i personally believe there are a lot of benefits to using saturated fatty acids from animal products. really clarified butter would be the healthiest, but cream tastes better, so thats what i drink.

A lot of people do it out of habit, tell them you already put in sugar beforehand and they wouldn't notice the difference.

Nor would most notice the difference between supermarket dark roast and a Hawaiian Kona but that's a different point.

ehh not really. Its kind of like how a hot sauce can be hot, but not have flavour. does regular vinegar have a flavour? id say it just tastes tart more than anything, then compare it to balsamic.

maple and honey both have flavour, brown sugar even has a bit from the molasses, but i would say that white sugar is pretty blandly sweet.

Did you fail kindergarden? The tastes are sweetness, saltness, sourness, bitterness and umami, so yeah sweet is very much a taste

Macchiato means "Marked". A macchiato is espresso MARKED with a touch of milk.

Also, both those drinks look horrible. Come on man...

True true. Something I didn't discover till last year or so, and the real one was delicious. Little, but delicious.

The local coffee chain (not in a Starbucks sense though, thank god,) makes a great macchiato. As well as a great Dulce.

Interesting coffee roasts too, hugely distinctive taste and smell.

Phil and Sebastian's if you want to check them out and are in Calgary.

I see a few options/answers to this issue.

1. They're living in a bizzaro world and everything behind the counter is subject to different standards. It is up to you to crack their crazy code.

2. They're fucking with you because you're SUCH a noob that you have to ask the professionals to grid your damn beans. Looser noob. Do you even coffee?

3. Take that shit back and berate them for their continual failures and shittiness.

4. Find a different coffee shop that knows which grinds are which.

Oh, and lastly, your name fucks up the new quote system. I have to delete the second bracket around the "[X]", otherwise it says the quote doesn't exist.
 
Currently drinking a nasty iced coffee from starbucks...God college coffeeshops are so bad. The nice "upscale" one with foreign/flavored roasts isn't worth the price because 2.50 isn't worth the 8 ounces of flavor...

The typical pot of coffee is boring...this thread has opened my eyes that there is some fun culture behind it all.

Feels. When I'm working at the Costa(similar to starbucks but British(and shit(google costa capuccino))) at my work everything is utter bollocks, it's literally mass producing the same shitty(cosmetically(oddly enough I've never actually had a coffee before)) tankards of drinks that may as well have all been premixed and stuck in a microwave.

The consistently broken machine results in the steamed milk comes out either lukewarm or scalded, all the while looking(and more than likely tasting) like spume.

It doesn't help that my colleagues are willingly at a level of efficiency such that they would implode if they ever met a German.
 
Tried cold brew for the first time this morning and really enjoyed it. Anybody have personal recipes they use for it? I want to try a few different bean/water ratios and see what comes out best.
 
I only drink coffee when I'm desperate to stay awake. But you know, I don't really mind it. It doesn't taste too bad a lot of the time

it's not great with a bright bean, i found. grind means everything.

i prefer a pour over onto ice though... concentrate the brew a little bit then pour it right over the ice cubes

Just made a cup of regular coffee with some ghee and then frothed it up in a blender. Really really good .
