Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

then you have fuckers like Burrows biting dudes and Lapierre fucking taunting players and essentially mocking the league, which the refs did nothing about. it goes both ways boss, it's not just Marchand.

i came on here to say exactly this. the reasons rome was suspended fully match what happened to raymond. no puck, late contact, injury. no head hit. both players didnt let up when the other was vulnerable. the NHL needs to figure their shit out. obviously they wont give a suspension for this but just shows how retarded the rules are

oh my god game 7. holy fuck. gonna be insane

It's a two way street. Both teams have had their fair share of dirty shit between the whistles although as a Bruins fan I'd argue that the Canucks seemed to start it all in the first two games and have continued to pull shit like that more than the Bruins. But I am very bias and I'm sure a Canucks fan would say the exact opposite.

Jd how can you be so logical when it comes to almost anything and so disgustingly biased when it comes to hockey? Comparing the hit on Thorton to the hit on Raymond? Yeah one was into the boards with both of the skaters in the same motion and one was conflicting motions AND a blindside center ice hit 3-4 skates before hitting? Come on man. Marchand is an annoying little fucker but he can snipe shots and he doesn't go out there with the intent to take people out for the playoffs. Rome is a pretty average/less than average player and was only out there for one reason. Burrows bites people...

So you are saying B's fans aren't worthy of a win and we will just shrug it off? I have watched the Bruins suck my whole life and now I finally see them in a Stanley Cup game, I am not going to "shrug off" a loss. I am extremely disappointed in this post and you have a severely misguided opinion of this series. Hopefully in a few months win or loss in game 7 you can look at this and realize how incredibly silly you are being.

Maybe to you, but I promise you the cup means allot more to Vancouver than it does to Boston. Be honest between your Celtics and Red Sox championships the past few years do most people in Boston follow/ care about hockey?

Other than the Lions (CFL) Vancouver hasn't won a major title, and the CFL isn't that big of a deal, and the Vancouver Millionaires don't really count. And the NBA stole my Grizzlies! After the Olympics were here this city is hungry for the cup. You can feel it everywhere.

You realize how many amazing hockey programs there are in New England? BU, BC, UNH/UMaine (New England), Umass, etc. Hockey is very popular in high schools around New England and it is something I have been involved with since I was very young.

Both cities would hoist the cup well and both deserve it. Saying Vancouver deserves it a lot more is just wrong.

does that surprise you or something?

I thought the canucks had a lot of chances to get the first goal which would have been huge and for sure changed the outcome of the game. Bruins played good and luongo just can't seem to play well away from home. Game 7 is going to be the most stressful night of my life, the boys have played well there all year and I don't doubt them or luongo one bit.

GO CANUCKS GO!

don't forget... Schneider is Massachusetts born and bred. played hockey for bu and was an all american. he's probably a bruins fan. seeing as Marblehead is all of 30 minutes from Boston.

i was merely implying that the northeastern states are just as big on hockey as most of canada.

not to mention the b's haven't been in the cup finals since 1990 or won the cup since before the canucks even existed.

No its nice to know that if the Canucks lost it would be to a city that cares, like I really doubt most people in Tampa Bay or Nashville care or even know they have a hockey team.

Ok first of all I think you mean Horton, not Thornton, which by the way makes it sound like you're the typical American hockey fan who only starts paying attention when (insert NBA team here) is knocked out of the playoffs and isn't paying enough attention to know the names of even the star players, but I'll assume it was a typo.

Second reason you don't know what you're talking about is you called it a blindside hit. This is why I hate the NHL introducing rules with names like that, because people who don't know or care enough to educate themselves end up making ridiculous comments. It is decidedly NOT a blindside hit, and this has been made clear over and over again, including by Murphy when he handed out that suspension. A blindside hit has to do with the direction the players are travelling, not the direction the guy getting hit is looking. You cannot throw a north-south hit and have it be "blindside". We've talked this to death and apparently still people don't get it, which again leads me to the conclusion they just don't care enough to pay attention.

Next, I should point out that the number of strides does not have any relevance to anything whatsoever. It is the time elapsed that matters. You get .5 seconds, basically, to hit a guy. This was slightly longer than that, therefore it was illegal. I have seen later hits that cause injury let go plenty of times in my time watching hockey, particularly in the playoffs, but apparently the standards have changed and that's all well and good, though 4 games is still very surprising.

Next, you really, REALLY have no clue what you're talking about when it comes to Rome. He is not a goon, he is not out there for "one reason", his purpose is to play stay at home D, not injure people. I can't even remember a big hit he even threw in the regular season and he doesn't fight or get into scrums on a regular basis. You assume because a guy is a 3rd pairing d-man his only purpose is to hurt people, and again, this just demonstrates your willingness to make ignorant comments about hockey and this series. That is not the sort of player he is. There are lots of lower-line guys who are just there to rough it up, sure, but he isn't one of them - the closest we have to that is Tanner Glass, or Rick Rypien if he were playing.

Now, I may be biased, but everything I have just said is unequivocally the case.

And I wasn't saying one hit was the equivalent of the other, I'm saying that the reason I don't think Boychuk can be faulted for not letting up on Raymond is the same reason I don't fault Rome. All the talk about that being a "dirty" hit is just asinine. It was a late hit and a bad decision but it could not have been less malicious.

i'm stoked for this next game, just 'cause i know Luongo won't choke at home, so we'll actually get to see a goalie in front of the net. gettin tired of seeing the Bruins rape, even though all i want is for the Nucks to lose.

(obligatory argument over semantics of rules goes here)

this just doesn't feel like the finals for me. not excited about either team. the previous series' leading up to this were so much more exciting, this final is kind of a downer. like i said, i don't care who wins, as long as the Canucks lose. i just dislike their team and their fanbase, bunch of goons.

bruins played some great hockey last night and deserved the win. if both teams keep playing like they have been the past few games, i wouldnt mind seeing the bruins win at all

Diving lessons: $50/hr., Acting Lessons: $100/hr., the look on the fans' faces on Glanville Street, PRICELESS.

Congrats on the Conn Smythe Mr. Thomas!

lol thats awesome, their build is practically identical

Which luongo comes to play on wednesday??

luong-480x358.jpg

taken out of context. they forgot the part where luongo credited tim thomas for his ability to make saves that luongo cant due to his playing style.

i did hear how he said, watched the press conference live.

and here's the full quote since im sure plenty of you havent even read the whole thing yet.

“It’s not hard if you’re playing in the paint so it’s an easy save for me, but if you’re wandering out and aggressive like he does then that’s gonna happen. He might make some saves like I won’t but in cases like that, I mean we want to take advantages of bounces like that and make sure we’re in good position to bury those.”

Ouch I believe it, he looked like he was in soooo much pain when they skated him off the ice. He didn't even move his feet and could hardly make the step through the door. I was seriously worried when the two teammates let him go and the two suits (trainers?) had to get him down the hall. Looked like he needed a lot of help for sure. Tough injury.

it came off as snide. whatever, he plays like shit in Boston and regardless of how he does in Vancover i feel his reputation is tarnished. he's surrended 15 goals in Boston (or something like that).

Fuck that makes me mad. If Rome got suspended for his hit then Boychuk should be suspended for this.

Suspensions should not be based on the outcome of the hit, but Rome's suspension was partially based on that so why can't this be? He was hitting a player late who was in a vulnerable position...

the circumstances are a little different though. yeah, i don't necessarily agree with the Rome suspension but whatever happens happens. in the Boychuk hit, they kinda got tangled up in each other's sticks/skates making a play on the puck. sure boychuk slams him into the boards but Raymond was in such an awkward position to get hit and both players were already engaged. completely different from the Rome/Horton hit.

ease up on the kool aid frodo...

It was not a dirty hit and boychuck didnt even throw him into the boards, the momentum of both men was going into the boards and boychucks stick was tangled between raymonds leg leaving him no where to go..zero intent to injure, really sucks for raymond that he was in such a weird/spinned around position when he went ass first into the boards

Wow JD. Questioning the legitimacy of my fan attachment because I misspelled? Yeah man, I haven't ever watched the Bruins. I am just a bandwagon fan..you got me. I'll admit I haven't paid as much attention as I used to since the lockout agitated me a bit. That doesn't change the fact that I have been to more Bruins games at the old Garden than most "new fans" have been to the new one. I'm sure there's plenty of bandwagons in Canada too.

Second reason is bullshit with circular logic. You need some perspective change since you are the one who obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

The number of strides means the amount of times you didn't change your motion, how is that not relevant?

Rome is a less than average player who put a really big hit on someone. I am not assuming anything that is what happened.

Again resulting in personal attacks is your illogical and emotionally ridden argument. Nice JD, way to drop the maturity an infinite amount of steps.

Gotta love Boston fans, as Raymond is writhing in pain on the ice from a late hit with a compression fractured vertebrae the fans are chanting "Diver" the entire time, even until the doctor and his team-mates help him off the ice. Super classy.

Thank you we love you too. First, that hit was not late. Second, how are the fans supposed to know of the diagnosis? Third, I would expect nothing less from Bruin fans due to the atrocious amount of "diving" and "faking" that the Canucks have displayed throughout the series. Thanks again, you'll be loving us even more on Wednesday night.

Sorry, but I personally don't get off on others pain. Have the decency to wait for them to get up and make sure they're ok? Boston has been doing just as much "diving" as the Canucks.
As far as game 7, it's anyone's game. Given the history, Vancouver has won the last 3 at home, and they've been tight scoring games. I'd say 2-1 in OT.
Regardless, mocking serious injuries like that has you lined up for a karma smack. I've actually compression fractured 2 vertebrae before and it is EXTREMELY painful.
It is late, as he doesnt have the puck on him (got rid of it 2 secs before the hit) and he got driven into the boards ass backwards. That's a shitty hit.
The puck wasn't even anywhere near them, I doubt boston fans even SAW the hit live, and have the nerve to shout diver incessantly at someones whos in pain?
I've been lots of games before where the opponent team has had injured players hit the ice, sometimes diving, sometimes legit and I cant say I've ever chanted diver at someone laying on the ice in pain.

I also don't get off on others pain. Boston has definitely not been doing as much diving. I am in no way mocking a serious injury. Like the announcers said the check was just being finished, it was just unfortunate that they got caught up the way he did. Read all of the other posts in this the few pages about this. I wouldn't expect you to have chanted at someone laying on the ice in pain, but Vancouver has and would have done the same. This is the playoffs, get over it.

The difference between Rome's hit and Boychuck's hit is enormous. Rome elevated to Horton's head after the play when he wasn't looking. Boychuck nonchalantly rode Raymond into the boards when they got tangled up. There wasn't even a chance of a penalty on Boychuck, while Rome was in the box right off the bat and thrown out before play started again.

How is that not clear to the 'Nucks fans. It's hockey, that's how the game works: sometimes things go wrong for a player and they get hurt from small seemingly benign plays. It sucks he got hurt and I hope he makes a full recovery, but there is no question it wasn't even a penalty on Boychuck to begin with so shut up about it already, you are making yourselves look silly.

The only thing that matters now is game 7. Everything else is in the past.

this entire statement is moronic and absolutely blinded by bias. This is hockey, people fucking get hurt, fucking deal with it. Boston is one of the most hostile sport cities ever, i don't know if you've ever stepped foot in the Garden with a Boston team playing a hated rival, but i can assure you it's a site to see.

you might not like the hit, but it wasn't fucking dirty. Boychuk and Raymond were already engaged making a play on the puck. Their stakes/stick got tangled, their momentum rode them into the boards and Raymond just got crunched against the boards in a funky way. were you watching the hit live? i know i was, and i've seen it 10 or so times since.

i'm sorry that you've never chanted diver at a team notorious for diving. again, you clearly don't know what Boston is like. this is a city that throws elderly baseball managers to the ground. do you know who we are? we don't give a fuck if you're laying there paralyzed. we live to get under peoples skin. we start fights at sox/yankees games. suck it up. if you don't like hostility, stay the fuck away from the garden.

1. You didn't misspell, you named the wrong player entirely (unless you were simply unaware that there is a Bruin named Thornton).

2. Second reason is... the actual rule. It's not a matter of "perspective", that's what the rule actually is.

3. It's not relevant, again, because it has nothing to do with the rule on interference. An interference penalty requires you to hit the guy "immediately" after he releases the puck. In the past, the NHL has had a standard that .5-1 seconds is fine. Those standards are now stricter. They have nothing to do with "strides".

4. You said he was out there for "one reason", i.e. to goon it up and hurt people. That is not his game. You assumed it was, because he is a lower-pairing player who you know nothing about. That is ignorant.

Again, you have utterly failed to post anything remotely accurate or effective.
