Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

just got back from the canucks game, fucke yeah mason with a hatrick! way to rape the flames boys!

Fuckin shut out, god damn you thomas. Probably doesn't help that we're like 2 for 36 on our powerplay lately. It looks like an official flyers slump if ya ask me. We need to pull our offense together a bit it seems.

This is some good stuff.

Thanks for all the tips guys. What the hell is toedrag?? I'm actually a pretty strong skater, or at least out of all of us that are gonna be playing. We'll probably take turns as the goalie as well, I'm sure it's fun but I don't wanna be stuck back there the whole time.

As far as the shitty ice and bouncing pucks go, any of you guys know anything about ice maintenance or tools we could use to work on the pond. Such as like a flat sharp shovel or rakes or something? I'm sure we could run a hose out there to help even it out some, any tips on actually making it a little nicer than a crappy pond?? I think we're gonna get out there and rip out some of the grass and weeds for starters just to maximize our area of play.

Back to NHL, should be a great weekend with two one o clock games. Looking to make up for the last loss to the devils and the islanders are always a hot game.

if you still live in PA, watch yourself out of that pond....we are not exactly "frozen" enough during the winter to always do this. I would test the ice daily(drill with long monster bit).

Not trying to be a prick! Just be smart and safe(as far as the ice goes haha). No ice diving!

For my old job, i use to have to convert a outdoor roller hockey rink into ice each winter(aka more $ for the rink). Even with a roof over the ice(but no sides) and the cooling pipes running underneath it...it was a pain in the ass get setup correctly/ get frozen solid.

drag the puck with the toe of the blade. probably the dirtiest dangle you can do if executed properly. being a d-man, i know that its one of the most embarrasing things ever, especially if its a diiiirty one that goes through your feet and shit, you just feel like a jack ass

Yeah I hear that, it'll help that the pond is only about 3 feet at the deepest and over half of it is only about a foot deep. We've got enough tools and stuff to be able to check it though. We're obviously not gonna be out there if it's 50 and sunny. Honestly we'll see how it goes, we don't always stay below freezing over on this side of the state.

well that was a great way to redeem ourselves from last night. too bad we blew the shutout.

and im pumped to see edmonton doing work, they've got such talented players its about time they got in the groove

a night of blowouts. of the 8 games, 4 have already ended with a team winning by 4+ goals, and two are still on/about to start

my dad got tickets to all the games. im only interested in canada games and the only one that looks like a real game is canada vs russia so thats where il be. also going to the finals if canada makes it. All the other round robin games with canada looks like its going to be a very 1 sided game.

usa vs canada finals, calling it now

Yeah for sure thats the finals lol

I wanted to go with a buddy, but since im only 20 and cant drink in buffalo i wasnt feeling it too much. Definitely watching every game though.

was watching tsn yesterday and was pretty surprised to see one of my good buddies had said his entry level deal with the Caps.
i can't wait for the mem cup, i worked for st mikes in 08-09 season and will likely be working the entire tournament as well.

I wouldn't say anybody, but we'll try again this weekend and I hope your right. We need a win like the east coast needs snow.

Canucks pooped on the Flames last night, and I love it.

And to the guy learning to play hockey, all I can say is learn how to skate good, and you will probably rape your friends. I am guessing you guys are not the strongest skaters so if you can skate circles around them it really won't matter as much how bad of a player you are and makes it way more fun.

and don't gravitate towards the puck, stay in the open space and wait for it to come to you. reading the game is so important.

I'm already a pretty good skater so I got that going for me. also I have many many years of volleyball experience so I'm also pretty good at reading the play and finding the open hole. Just gotta wait a couple weeks for the pond to freeze as right now we're mid 20s at night and low 40s in the day.

Should be hitting up a Play It Again Sports(think pawn shop for sporting goods) this weekend to pick up a stick, gloves, and possibly some goalie pads or helmet. We've got one shoddy plastic goal already and everyone seems to think we're gonna have to play half court as the pond is only about 60 feet long or so.

thats how we always play. its usually hard to get 2 nets so thats one of the reasons, but it's also better for the goalie cus otherwise they would get bored while the puck is in the other end, so in this case, they're always busy

O'Doyle rules.

yeeee im pumped we won today, didnt see the game cus i had a soccer game, did anyone watch it? how was it?

that was dirty

but who else was pumped to see thomas wearing an actual goalie helmet? ahaha i fuckin despise those ugly hasek style masks

I thought thomas always wore an actual modern mask...

That said.. You're too young I assume to remember the days before those masks... when EVERYONE used 'hasek style' masks.
Whenever I see them I love them... remind me of Arturs Irbe...

For some reason i'm pretty sure Thomas used to where the older style of mask.

everytime i see them i think of Cloutier and i just kinda chuckle, went from being the Canucks no.1 goalie to pretty much out of hockey

will never forget him though, mainly cause of these:

Best goalie fights were Dafoe vs. Kolzig, Vernon vs. Roy, Hextall vs. Potvin, Biron vs. Emery, and Lalime vs. Esche.
My favs.

the caps have always been horrendous defensively, usually they just score enough to cover their mistakes. didn't happen tonight though

just stumbled upon this commercial, i remember they played it last year around world juniors. cant wait to go to the finals.
