Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

it would sell out in portland... for sure... the porland vancouver games.. i could only imagine.. when we play the giaints(whl) it gets dirty!. i mean. back when the grizzleys were there. the blazer grizz games where amazing.

ya im not saying there arent any other places in the states that wouldnt sell out every game but come on, you guys have enough teams as it is aha

yeah that would be sick.

places where NHL teams should go:

Portland

Seattle

Quebec City

Winnipeg

Hamilton

teams that should be moved:

Florida

Phoenix

Atlanta

Nashville

NY Islanders

what about teams like carolina and anaheim and la and shit? do a lot of ppl go to those games? hell, even san jose. i dunno, it just seems to me like the hockey market wouldnt be that big in cali

Carolina and San Jose actually have amazing crowds. San Jose has become Hockeytown-West as far as I've seen. The arena holds 17500 people, and hasnt had less than 17000 people come to a game in years. They consistantly sell out, and the entire downtown is filled with fans wearing teal in a nightly basis. San Jose being in the bay area has made hockey super popular in the area, and now there are ice rinks all over the place. I grew up playing ice hockey, in california, an hour from San Jose. You wouldnt have seen that before the 90's...
The NHL gave the Bay Area a 2nd chance after the Seals sucked... and it's become huge here.
Anaheim however... I dont know... The Kings definitely have the larger fanbase, and theyve been historically worse than both San Jose AND Anaheim out of the California clubs. They did have Gretsky for a while though... and that made their fanbase massive during the early-mid 1990's. As bad as it was for edmonton, it was great for the growth of hockey in the USA... and in California especially.
Anaheim is pathetic though for fanbase... They only get bandwagon fans, and even when theyre pretty decent, they dont fill their arena like LA or SJ. Plus, Anaheim isn't even a real city... It's a suburb in Orange County that just happens to be where Disneyland is. that's why the Angels and Ducks always play 2nd fiddle to teams with LA in front of the name.. (that's also why the Angels are now the LA angels of anaheim... otherwise known as LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA)

Portland is a pro sports starved city... That's why the Rose Garden is sold out every game...
If they threw a Hockey Team into that arena in tandem? Holy shit, they'd sell out for practice... They sell out games for the WINTERHAWKS sometimes...
I'd love Portland to get a hockey team... same with Seattle. I'd love for San Jose to have rivals to the north, who are not all the way in Vancouver...
Plus, a hockey team in seattle who builds a new arena = return of the superdoopersonics, probs.

Im just going of my general knowledge but as far as im aware Carolina has a very big fan base, at least since they won the cup a couple years ago, the sport has really been growing there, and plus they have the All-star game this year and as seen by the voting they are coming out in numbers to try and get some of their talent in the game.

I lived in the Bay Area about 4 years ago and the Sharks weren't that popular, the fans really only came out in the playoffs (*cough* bandwagoners *cough*) even though one of the years i was there they had the lockout. HOWEVER, in recent years they have been growing in popularity lots of people i know have been supporting them all season long, going to games, and even dressing up as fans for halloween. so their fan base is solid.

In southern Cali LA has the majority of the fans, and lots of them are loyal, back from their good old yellow and purple days, Anaheim does not have nearly the same fan base but i would still think they are more popular then the teams i mentioned in the earlier post (nashville, florida, phoenix, etc.)

And surprisingly Dallas has a big fan base, for reasons i can't really explain (possibly their cup in '99 and the players they've had: Modano, Turco, Morrow) the Stars are really popular in Texas as odd as it seems.

exactly what i was thinking!

franchises are a business(aka $)....if putting more teams in Canadian land equaled profit...it would have been done(Canada has millionaires as well, who breath hockey, but wont take the risk).

Theres more to the business side then just selling seats!

im curious to see how pacioretty plays tonight, hes been doing work in hamilton, i think hes the leading scorer in the A right now? anyways, we saw how he played on the 4th line lets see what he can do with gionta and gomez tonight. p.s. i just saw a vid and he was standing on the ice beside gomez and gionta and he fuckin towers over them its hilarious

holy fuck, ill say it again, our d-men are retarded. subban played like shit tonight. way to go boys, we just tossed away the game

4 minutes left... blow the lead... then go behind 40 seconds later...
THEN have a power play to end the fucking game and not score...
Fucking frustrating as hell...

subban's a bum

subban's a HEROOOOO!!

subban's a bum again

subban's a HEROOOOO

where's the consistency boi. i still think he's a solid player, but what a strange game for him. extremes, really.

exactly.

but he's still young, still his first season in the nhl really, hes gonna be a fuckin dirty player in a bit

Great game, nail biter for sure.

Came alive in the third to finish strong, thank god, too many times I think we get comfortable and slow down in the third. Good to see we're able to keep up some D without big bad pronger as well.

Anybody cast votes for the All Star game?

^naw. i tried, but then it was telling me i needed to create an account to cast my votes and i was just way too lazy to go through that whole process knowing that the ppl i was gonna vote for were defs gonna end up in the game anyways lol

Two more games before the christmas break, then it's off to the west coast for the flyers.

Rangers this weekend and I gotta work til 2:30 on saturday faaaaaaack.

Avs have now beaten the hawks in all three games they've played with them this year.. So glad we picked up flieschman (SP??) too, his fast skating really fits in well with our team. In case you weren't aware of it, he had his first career hat trick last night.

holy fuck subban just ruined marchand

good way to start the game, but we gotta move those fuckers out from in front of the net

yo i just saw a highlight quickly on tsn, not sure what game it was or who it was, but one team was on the PP, in the offensive zone, the d team had their box set up, and one of the attacking players off to the side of the net didnt have a stick, and there was someone else's stick chillin on the ground, he picks it up and scores 2 seconds later. it was a left handed stick and he was right handed, it was pretty jks

speaking of them, did anybody see the HBO 24/7 thing? if there was any doubt whatsoever about who the more likable team is before that then there is no argument now. bordreau is such a fat joke. it doesn't even seem like any of the caps even like each other. no fun.

and the caps are OBSESSED with the pens. i counted at least 3-4 times when they or their coach mentioned the pens. the penguins didn't mention the caps even once. they are so miserable. granted, they are on a losing streak. but can you really take that team and especially that coach seriously? the guy had bbq sauce on his face during an interview for God sake.

God damned Kings I don't understand how they can do so badly and yet break the club record for most consecutive wins at home from the season start, and beat the Redwings 5-0 and the Preds 6-1.
At least its better than when I was a kid and they just sucked all the time.
I just picked up NHL 11 today shit is pretty awesome. Fighting is so much better than it was in 09.

Thank god I had to work last night and couldn't see that shitshow of a game the flyers played. Ahh well we had a nice streak going for a bit there. Hello christmas and then lookout cause I'm gonna be partying late for those west coast games next week.

Portland winter-hawks are still on the top of the WHL.. going for that memorial cup
i know this is NHL thread. but this would be my local hockey team!!!

Avs are the hottest team in the NHL right now despite all their injury's. So much fun watching the games considering their scoring the most points in the NHL. They've had some 40 points in their last 6 games with 12 different players scoring them, they have lots of talent.

I hate Anaheim and Bobby Ryan...
But holy shit that was fucking funny...
Koivu's a jackass for steak stealing... and Ryan's a genius for scoring with koivu's stick lol.

Lol... This season is amazing compared to what the Kings have been through in the past dude... least youre actually going to make the playoffs still... and honestly... I believe you guys will win the Pacific. This year, I expect the sharks to enjoy a lower seed for the first time in a while... Dallas will come back to earth.. Phoenix will get a 7th or 8th seed, and I think Anaheim will drown out and miss them for the 2nd straight year.
I dont mind you guys winning the division though... I wouldnt mind being a lower seed and blasting off during playoff time.
