OFFICAL NHL PLAYOFF THREAD

Ovechkin did not get 2.5 million in bonuses for art ross and playoff appearences right now before his new contract he makes 3 something max with all his bonuses. Do you honestly just make this shit up hoping someone beleives it?

Crosby and Ovechkin both had serious bonuses their first years because they were on rookie contracts and rookie contracts have a small max salary so they get beefed up with signing and performance bonuses.

fuck. pens fan for sure, but this could be a short series...

seriously wings tore us up. physically beat the fuck out of us, puck was theirs the whole time, fleury is a dumb fuck, they made no serious mistakes.

yeah...fuck

Wow pens we played pretty bad tonight.

1) Fleury? as soon as you fell on your face, i knew somethin was up. shit.

2)We need to win this next game, very crucial.

i think it was just a bit of a shock for us, Being in detroit, and playing a real team.

what did you pens fans think of the disallowed goal? i thought it was straight up bullshit, fleury was moving forward, and holmstrom wasnt in the crease.

yeah i thought it was a weak penalty. not as weak as the dallas one though. i think the penguins wasted a lot of energy in the first period and then got dominated physically. hopefully that wont be the case in game 2 and most of the butterflies will be gone.

Not saying your all making excuses...but they kind of sound that way, either way you look at it butterflies(probably not), or the other team is alot better(absolutely), you lost the game.

1. Fleury kept the game 4-0 IMO, i thought it could've been 6 maybe even 7 to nothing.

2. Did you see how much Crosby, Malkin and Hossa were on the ice for the first 30 minutes of the game? Atleast 2 of them were on the ice nearly every shift. Pens didn't run 4 lines the rest of the game after the first 5 minutes because they could'nt keep pace.

3 Shock? No, Outskated? Outchecked? Giveaways? Yes.

Still think Detroit will take it in 4 or 5. They bring this every night. Pens will need to figure something out soon to hang in there and steal a game or two to hang on in the series.

that wraparound goal was sick.

i still say wings in 5.

this should of shut most of the pens fans up, they just haven't played a good team like detroit in the playoffs. the east is weak.

i called a loss as soon as i saw flower spread eagle on the ice. should have been 5 nothing too. however the pens at home also arent anything to fuck with.

it wasn't very great at all, it looked good because fleury didn't even move across the net until it was pretty much a goal.

Gotta win the next game to stay alive

The wrap around was decent, nothing spectacular. It was relatively slow. Fleury looked like Ray Charles on that play, and for the whole game for that matter.

I will admit the dissallowed goal was kind of weak. Some interferrence with the stick between Fleury´s legs. But nothing worthy of dissallowing the goal. Fleury needed to change his contacts or something.

As long as the Wings get to beat up on Columbus, Chicago, and St. Louis all season, they will win the president´s trophy. The penguins play in the toughest division in hockey. The only shitty team in the Atlantic is the Islanders. In the playoffs, Ottawa was a push over. But I honestly was afraid to play the rangers. Lunquist is easily one of the best goaltenders in the league. And every star player from the late 90´s uses the Rangers as a retirement home. Philly is tough as fuck, they just don´t have the talent.

Nashville forced the Wings to a game 6 for fucks sake.

This series is going to game 7 for sure though.

The Pens were absolutely dominated by the wings defense for most of the game. Honestly the best defencmen they have faced these playoffs have been like what Redden-Phillips? Detroit was a hella shock to the system, even when they got shit going in the offensive zone detroit forwards would collapse and defuse the situation. Pens will come back strong maybe win a couple games but Detroit takes the series.

Lets count up your number of innacurate comments here.

1. The wrap around was a great play! Why Detroit could've easily dumped that puck but instead took a risk of losing the puck to the 3 D Men the Pens had back, and instead the 1 on 3 turned into a buried goal for the Wings, It was a smart shot because of the bad angle, its common for players to take bad low angle shots to bounce off a skate or a goalie. The fact that the Wings were able to pick up that kind of read and score on a 1 on 3 so fast is great! Such a great offensive play read.

2. Fleury actually had a pretty good night, only one of the goals was one he should've had back, the terrible rebound give away in front of the net leading to a tip in over his shoulder. The penguins had alot of great opportunities to score on Ozzy. Why didn't they? No one stepped up or could capitalize on there chances. If it wasn't for fleury this game could've been 7 or 8 to nothing.

3. Your "strongest division" comment makes me realize how arrogant eastern sports fans really are, and how being in a conference like that has absolutely nothing to do with how good or not good of a hockey team you are. If you knew anything about Chicago and St. Louis history in the NHL you would know they've had great franchises and were in growing years this season, as is Colombus still. Chicago and St. Louis are going to be dangerous next season. Chicago has Jonathan Towes and several other prospects really showing alot of swagger and could carry that team deep. So anyways back to the topic, So you think they have the strongest conference in the WHOLE NHL? go search for each conference and find out stats from the past oh maybe 12-15 years and look at franchise histories of making the playoffs. The Rangers, Penguins, and Islanders in years before have usually not made the playoffs or get in once every couple of years where as NJ and Philly are almost always in. Usually only 2 teams have represented the penguins division. Where as in the west look at the NW division. If you realized how much tougher of a conference this was, i'd really give you some cudo points.

All 5 teams were play off contenders in this division. There was only a 10 point difference from the first to last place team in the division. And this is year in year out, except for one season last season, that all 5 teams have a shot at making or missing the playoffs. Vancouver, Colorado, Calgary, Edmonton, and The Wild. The Avalanche have only missed the playoff once in the past 13 years. As most the other teams are VERY recognizeable in a plaoff contention. Hell, the last place team was playing in the cup finals just two years back i think it was.

Same could be said for the Pacific Divsion

now i'm not saying it isn't a strong conference, because it is, but really Its still not competetive as western conference hockey is. There is almost always an 5-7 team race going on for the last 3 playoff spots in the west. Where as the east maybe has 2-3 teams playing to get the 8th seed.

You can't really weigh divisions has heavily as you can conferences. Western conference teams beat eachother up during the playoffs, where the east is usually finess and goal scoring and short series' from the get go, hence an eastern team will win the playoffs once and awhile. Philly and NJ are the only teams that really stand out for a bruting phyiscal demanding game in the East to me.

Overall the West has always been more competetive. Do some research on that. Also watch ESPN and listen to any Analysis of the confrences, They'll almost always pick a western team to win a cup and will talk about the differing play styles of each conference and division always favoring the west.

3. Everyone knew the Pens were going to beat NY, why? Just do an offensive depth comparison for that one.

4. Now your discrediting Nashville? WOW. That says alot consideing washington was the 3rd ranked seed in the Eastern Conference and Boston was the 8th.

As i've stated before the west is alot more comptetive and a more physical type of play. Its common to have closer series in the west. EX. Detroit has lost to number 8 seeds that have gone on to take top seeds from the Easts to game seven in the finals! EX Edmonton/TB.

5. You think the Penguins will take it to 6 or 7? I'll agree with you when Crosby stops trying to be an olympic diver and learns to skate through a stick check.

Unless the Pens make some huge defensive adjustments and can control there tempers and learn to stay out of the box, this series will be a quick one. I'm sticking to Detroit in 4 or 5.

I'm a diehard Penguins fan. We didn't disappear. The Penguins are still better than your hockey team (unless youre from detroit of course).

Anyone else think the Penguins know its over already?

Cheap play dominated their third period strategy with obvious targeting of Franzhen (sp) with head shots to spur his post concussion symptoms and a run at Osgood.

How about Gary Roberts punch to his head? Suspension worthy....I doubt it but not very classy.

Regardless, I doubt Pittsburgh is winning both at home so Red Wings in 5

Roberts needs to be severly punished for that stupid classless move. I guarantee you the league is going to review it and punish him.

haha if we could get some replay on that Franzen delayed dive that would be great. He gets tapped on the head, poked with a stick, then a second later falls to the ground HOLDING THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF HIS FACE.

not saying roberts didnt take a cheap shot, but if you look at the last angle its obvious he shoots a glance at the ref before whirling around and crumpling. plus franzen was starting shit with people two minutes later. and osgoods just a piece.

everything is fair game in hockey but cheap shots to the head = no no.

It's reminiscient of the Moore-Bertuzzi incident a while ago, cheap shot to the head and he was severly damaged.

It wasn't even close to being that serious....Bertuzzi Shoved his head into the ice after sucker punching him, that was just a normal run of the mill shove to the face.

i dont mind a normal shove to the face if both people are going at it but franzen wasn't even going at it, he just came from behind and cheap shotted him. kinda ludicrous.
