To all the flyer haters: i am surprised the flyers even made it this far.. last season the flyers had the worst record in the nhl (worse than the chicago blackhawks) and to come back the next season and make it to the conference finals is pretty damn good to me. But dont worry, we'll see the bitch crosby and the pens next year in 08-09................go flyers

Pittsburgh Penalty Statistics 2008 Playoffs

GP - 14

Minors - 85

Majors - 3

Misconducts - 4

PIM - 225

Average Penalty Minutes Per Game - 16.1 (4th Highest in Playoffs)

Number of Power Plays in Playoffs - 65 (4th Highest in Playoffs)

Dallas (85 PPs), Detroit (74 PPs), and Philadelphia (67 PPs) all had more power plays than Pittsburgh in the playoffs. And the Pengiuins were the 4th highest penalized team! I´m sorry that there are some tampons that need to be changed out there. But those are the facts. Pittsburgh has a sick Powerplay (23%) and a ridiculous PK (87.3%). Other teams have had more chances than the Penguins and they aren´t capitalizing. nhl.com has an awesome stats device now, so please read up before, you come on here, ¨Wahaaaaa the Penguins are all diving bitches. The refs hand them the games Whaaaaaaaa¨

I should add that the numbers for overall powerplays is a little skewed, because some teams have not played an equal amount of games. But it really isn´t by much. 1 or 2 games isn´t much when you´re taling about 20 powerplays. Detriot and Dallas have had a ridiculous number of powerplays.

And then again look at their teams. Good players draw pentalties

 
excuse me? dumbass point? in case you didn't see the score to our FOURTH victory it was 6 nothing pens, it seems like i was correct.
 
Yeah you also have to remember the Flyers had played 4 more games than the Pens buddy! That alone could be 10-15 extra power plays.
 
Yeah who cares. They deserved to win, granted I stopped watching the game about half way through the second because I was doing home work, The Flyers didn't show up. from what I watched, The Pens were'nt really dominating the play besides keeping the flyers from taking shots. Biron looked like shit, the first goal WAS redirected in. The second was questionable for a goaltender interference/holding the stick. Most of the goals were easy short side shots Biron should've stopped. Up to where I watched the only difference was the Pens D-core. They deserve alot more credit than the offense for the Pens. If it wasn't for them the Pens would'nt be anywhere.

Hossa, Malkin, and Hossa are all one way players. If it wasn't for the D clogging the blue line and neutral zone the Pens would'nt be remotely close to where they are. Hence why the Capitals are out of the playoffs as are the Avalanche, and also the Wild.

If you all knew anything you'd quit praising crosby and start thanking Orpik, Letang, Sydor, Gonchar, and Whitney a bit more!
 
Based on these statements alone, you do not follow the nhl and or the penguins enough. Hossa is one of the best back checkers in the league by far. Every game he´s always stripping the puck off guys from behind.

And the defenseman you mentioned... aren´t even the penguins top defenders with the exception of Letang. The pens top defensive unit (which has played buck-nasty all playoffs) has been Hal Gill and Rob Scuderi. Scuderi is a +8 which is the highest on the team. And Gill is +5 Whitney is also at a +8 due to the fact that he is on the powerplay. At the end of the season Whitney was demoted to Left Wing on the 3rd line because he was playing so shitty. ...whitney is not a good defensive defenseman. Letang yes. He´s quality. Orpik... eh, he´s been playing well. He´s more of a physical presence than anything, and he can block shots well. Good vertical speed, but he gets beat laterally alot. Gonchar is a +4 which really is a gift for him too, because he plays on the powerplay. Not to mention his shot is so slow to develop, it gets blocked everytime. But gonchar has been playing much better towards the end of the rangers series and from the 2 philly games i saw before I left for peru.

The majority of anything Crosby does defensively is in the neutral zone. He´s good at stripping pucks and picking off passes, but then again... considering when crosby´s line is on the ice, the puck is hardly in the peguins zone, it´s hard to judge. Malkin definitely is a one way player. But to say that his offense doen´t make up for it haha? You´re right... why the hell would a team want a guy that has 9 goals and 10 assists in 14 playoff games. But you´re right we should stop praising Crosby, Malkin, and Hossa...

But here´s the last funny thing... Malkin is the only player in the top 30 Forwards in Time on Ice per Game... and he´s Numer 27. The pens are rotating lines quite evenly. So those 3 guys mentioned above are getting the job done in the average amout of time they are on the ice.

pens are the best in the league. best offense best defense best power plays best power play defense like hate all you want but just know that the PENS are the best.
 
If Hossa is such a two way player, and you want to talk numbers why is his +/- -14? Malkin and Crosby still sit in the high teens. But watching one game doesn't mean they always backcheck. I only saw Crosby come back really hard once in yesterdays game, which didn't matter since the Flyers practically just gave the Pens everytime they entered the zone by either dumping or making a terrible pass, or having it picked off by a Dman(most common).

I'm not discrediting them as being great hockey players, I'm just saying for the most part they aren't two way players, Malkin more so than any of them. Yeah Hossa gets back and steals the puck, but he also turned it over in his zone alot in other games the pens played.

The best two way players in the league - Pavel Datsyuk, and Henrik Zetterberg

 
i go to every game hossa is fucking amazing so is sid and malkin. its impossible to move the puck between the blue lines with these guys out there.
 
haha holy shit...Hossa has been getting tons of praise from everywhere because of his two way play and backchecking. It was one of the tops storys from the last series. Do you live under a rock?
 
hossa is +7 in the playoffs. the -14 might be due to playing for a thrashers team that was outscored by 56 goals; there are only two players on that team who have played over 20 games and still have a positive +/-, and one of them is colby armstrong.
 
For those of you bitching about the first pens goal. The rule is that it has to be a distinct kicking motion for it not to count. Yes he clearly redirected it but theres nothing wrong with that. If you can kick a 80+mph slapshot then you deserve the goal and you should play soccer.

Also on an unrelated rant. WTF team Canada!!! It's an absolute shame how many guys rejected to play for team Canada. Pronger, Neidermeyer, Phaneuf, Iginla, Brodeur. Luongo. Thornton and many more where the fuck is your patriotism. I wonder how many russians refused to play for their country...

once again this shows how little you know about hockey.

do you know what kind of money you make for every playoff game you play in, do you know how much u get for every stanley cup game you play in, do you know how much u get it you win the cup?? No.

Players will take a pay cut when they know they are going to get there money back by being in the playoffs. they arent going to take an extra 5 million from another team when they can make that extra 5 in one year through the playoffs and win the cup.
 
Owners make money not the players. The cup is only for prestige and the only way they make cash out of it is by teams giving them the big money for being a part of it. If any bonuses in there contract award them for winning a cup it goes against the cap. Players don't get paid under the table for winning championships.

Face it Pens fan this is your peak for another 20 years. Dupuis, Hossa, Malone, Staal and maybe some more. Thats a lot of holes to fill.
