OFFICAL JPI5 INFO

5th Annual JPI

Wow, has been five years already? Returning for its 5th straight year, JPI is taking a huge change of direction. It's been a fun and exciting run of throwing a massive pre-season Pro Shred event but its time for a change. While it's definitely cool to watch some of the best Pros in the Biz Hick for Bucks on your home turf to fuel your stoke for the season to come, wouldn't you rather be riding yourself? Yeah, that's what we thought so this year we're switching the "P" in JPI from PRO to PUBLIC!

Last year's expanded Public Arena was a huge success and that's the total focus for the upcoming JPI5. We want you, our loyal dedicated park shredders to feel the stoke first hand this preseason and get you guys/gals on the snow as early as possible and maybe even some extra cash in your pocket at the same time. The $2k we used to give out to the Pros for best tricks, well that's up for grabs in the public arena. Park staff will be looking to be impressed and will hand out cash, $20-$100 a pop, on the spot! Also, tons of swag from our park sponsors will be up for grabs as well. No bibs, no start lists...basically no rules other than your get to shred for a few hours weeks before the season begins and we got a ton of stuff to give out.

But wait....there's more! Get your batteries charged and polish up on those editing skills. Totally new this year is the Team Video Challenge. 15 teams will get private time in the arena to shot a 3-5min edit for a chance at the $2k winner take all cash prize, thanks to Fuel TV. Teams will have 36hrs after the riding stops to post their finished video to their team page on our website. Also up for grabs will be $500 for most viewed video. Additional winning categories and prizes will be announced Oct 1 when online team registration begins. Winners will be announced 10 days after the event. All of the Teams and Best Trick winners along with friends and family are invited back up to Boreal for the grand reveal and thank you party upstairs in our Bar.

So, when is all this going to go down? Well, that is up to mother nature. Each of the last 3 years we have been able to make snow the first week of October in preparation for JPI. We want to give you guys/gals the best and biggest possible venue as early as possible. So with that said the event will take place the first SAT/SUN after we make snow but no earlier than the weekend of 10/11 -10/12. So check you eyes on our webcam for snow making activity, check this blog and definitely sign up for TXT Message Alerts. We will TXT every bit of info about snow making and event status we get as soon as we get it so you wont miss out.

Additional info regarding Team sign up, Team pages on the website and any additions to the prize pool will be announced 10/1.

Date: TBD (Target: October 10/11 - 10/12 depending on snow) Check this website for date announcements or Sign up for TXT Alerts to guarantee you don't miss out

If you have a designated filmer for your team, do they count as a member? or can it be up to 4 riders? and then also have a filmer if we don't mind splitting the money with one more person?

that sounds super legit!! Nice work Eric and Boreal crew. Now please snow so I can book a ticket!

Yeah..50 per team gets you in the whole weekend plus the awards party with your friends and family(limit 2 per person)

You can make your team anyway you like as long as its 2 to 4 people. So camera guy counts as one if you want to do it that way. You could trade off camera duty and everyone skiis or you could have 3 people dedicated to film and production and only one skiis. we are trying to make this as simple as possible so the only rule is 2 to 4 people...guy/girl/ski/snowboard/alien/chipmunk...whatever!

Also, remember to check our site 10/1 for all last minute additions and final details.

the event is open to anyone. no age limit for the public jib arena or the team contest. however, the team contest is only open to the first 15 teams that sign up. sign ups start 10/1...if your team misses out on the first 15 spots you can sign up on a waiting list should any team drop out.

Dont know exactly what time on 10/1 the sign up page will go live. So far you guys have gotten all the info we have but we haven't shared this anywhere else yet. The press release needs to get out there so everyone has a fair chance to sign up.

Sounds gay, who would want $2000 for making an edit... And I heard the guy that runs the parks is a real weird-o... But thats just what I heard.

HA

yeah..and I heard the guy that runs stokebroke is a nerd who plays with model helicopters! :-)

Did you fly today? ..pretty windy up here right now. I'm still stuck up at the mountain trying to put the finishing touches on the hip cutter.

So excited!!!! thanks for doing what it takes to get things organized for this event eric. One of the best times of the year is JPI

Thanks, it takes a lot of involvement from a lot different people up here to make this event happen every year. We all really hope that this new format is for the better and that you guys will have a great time at JPI5.

Right now its just FuelTV offically. Marketing is working hard to get all of last years sponsors one board for the new direction of the event. Hopefully it all plays out it because it will just add more and more to prize pool.

I did, and I might come up to the railyard today, I need to see though. Still working on that hip cutter? I thought you had that finished a while ago.

Being this is the first year of the new format we wanted to leave it as open as possible with the rules as to not stifle the creativity of the teams. An all girl team would be rad....especially if you win and show all the guys whats up! Its all about creativity and overall impression. The Best filming/production/riding doesn't guarantee the win. I was talking to Trent (Stonebroke) the other day about this. At least in snowboarding lately, the films with the 6 figure budgets and the A-list riders aren't neccessarily the most exciting films to watch. The way I view it its a totally level playing field regardless of the make up of the teams.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES has come through and will be giving two anywhere any time tickets. Right now the tentative idea is award them to the standout rider in the team video comp. Official word will be on 10/1. Marketing is still working hard to round up other sponsors to help us award more categories.

Whats the temps like in the mornings up at boreal. Its below freezing every morning in Truckee, but I assume its warmer up there.

Yeah its inverted up here like it is every summer leading into fall. The outlook from our weather service is for this current high pressure to break down on 10/7. Just like the last 3 years, this timing of the high pressure collapse coincides with the snowmaking window we've had. So signs tentatively point to a repeat of the pattern we are counting on.

just a reminder. Registration is opening at 6pm tonight. We moved it from noon to give everyone a fair shot, didn't want any high schoolers to miss out.

still can't say for sure, until we see what snow we have to work with. Trust me, Eric and I would both like to have a set date, but we also want the venue to be as awesome as possible. If we tried to set a date right now, that day may come and you guys/gals are stuck skiing in mud, no bueno! So just keep posted to NS and borealterrainpark.com, we will give you the word once we know, promise.

super bummed we couldnt get in, should of had a video entry sign up to get in because it seems like many kids that don't know what there doing got in. Not tryin to be cocky but I'm sure Boreal wants to host the most legit edit comp possible so you need serious people doing it, not gapers.

good thing you didnt get in. do you even own a camera? god damn im sooooo bummed we dont get to see another crappy film to rap music SO bummed. you missed out. should have been faster. deal with it and stop you bitching. fucking gaper.

there were well over 30 team captains trying to sign all at once for only 15 available spots. sorry you didn't get in but that the breaks.

just talked to the Mtn Manager and the weather forecast looks really good sun-tues. We will know what the deal will be by Tues. hang in there...it wont be long
