We pushed out all of the snow last night and its fairly typical of the last couple openings.

But with the high temps today thru thursday we are going to wait to open possibly for the weekend. some snowmaking temps return thursday night and get better each night thriugh sunday.

yeah I just looked at that too. Looks like a strong stable high pressure for the next two weeks as well meaning 0 chance for precipitation until atleast the middle of November at earliest.

things aren't looking so good. Maybe we can trade the delay of snow for higher amounts later in the season and a longer spring!!!

wow that would be cool, you guys shouldnt open rentals yet so you dont get bombarded by all the bay area weekend warriors

no snow when it's 61 out....think we'll all being dying no the inside for a little longer. worth the wait though because spring is going make up for everything!!

I keep forgetting it's not even November yet. I think those September storms threw everyone off. There's still time.

are you guys going to make snow tonight cuz i think it's supposed to get down to the upper 20's for the next few nights which is always a good thing!!! plus the daytime temps are getting kinda chilly

our forecast isn't calling for any snowmaking temps this week..its reallly quite sad.

I've spent most of the day setting up our new weather station. It will be going through alot of changes over the next few days/weeks but here are some real time links to what is happening at Boreal

Here's a quote from our afternoon forecast by our weather service:

"UPDATE: No changes through the weekend. I just wanted to send an update with regards to the morning forecast models. The latest models show the changes in the pattern showing up at the end of next week, so this model run is back in the camp of seeing something moving through on the 9th. We'll keep you updated on the change in the pattern, as the models are having a difficult time locking into one solution. The trend is good, and I continue positive with the changes."

good update mudflap!

but i seriously dont understand why resorts in co can be open in early october while places in ca just kinda sit around waiting for it to snow while wasting perfectly good snowmaking opportunities???  i mean come on do resorts really not care?!?!  b-real had like 9 or 15 inches of powder a few weeks ago and here we all are not skiing... still... wtf?

I seriously doubt the resorts don't wanna open. That's how they survive. It's just that none of the snow anyone has received was enough to do anything with. Colorado has much colder weather to hold the snow they've gotten and made. Everything here just disappears w/ rain and warm temps. Surely everyone is doing their best. Keep your fingers crossed for this next possible system.

we made snow every cold night since oct 5th. to my knowledge no other

resort in California has tried to make snow yet other than us. you

guys have to understand that in the sierras this time of year we get

temp inversions due to high pressure. while it might be in the low to

mid 20's in truckee or near by valleys overnight, it can be in the 40's

up at elevation. we had a nearly two hour discusion last monday about

opening on wed(we had the snow) but everyday since last tuesday we've

seen daytime highs anywhere from 55 to 73 degrees. Our best low was

31.9 last friday night at 3am...that doesn't allow you to make much if

any snow in the 4 hours left before sunrise.

trust me..we are trying..I've got the sleepless nights watching the temps drop to hit the go button to prove it!

We can answer some of these questions by ourselves. If you look at the weather for soda springs, ca (which is much closer to boreal) you will see that the next few nights lows are 32 degrees. Truckee will have lows in the teens. This means that this inversion that eric speaks of is still affecting the region, and will most likely prevent them from making snow.

it's amazing what a little effort on one's own part can produce....as apposed to just jocking Eric about why he can't blow more snow when it's 65 degrees out.
