Ode to Newschool Skiing's Douchebags.

Big companies have put millions of dollars back into our sport. More than any "core" company. Big companies spend the money to create new and better products to progress our sport. Big companies have given us:

inverse camber

reverse sidecut

progressive sidecut

first twintips

park specific boots

soft boots

The list of inovations goes on and on and they come from Big Companies. How can we say they don't put back into the sport. Big companies put back into our sport or they wouldn't be able to survive. Big companies have to innovate and envolve themselves in our sport or they won't survive. Think of all the time and $ invested in research, testing, design etc. that goes into making our sport better as well as all the sponsored events. I for one am grateful for Big companies. I also am happy to see new smaller companies evolve. We need them BOTH. That is my rant insiede of a rant.

I'm pretty sure what he meant by the salomon/atomic comment, is evident through half of the posts in this thread... not so much the companies themselves, but the people that support these companies to the death, based on only their personal experiences with the companies, and not realizing that they're just companies... and haven't really done anything for any individual except making a product, and yet are supported till the end...
 
New school skiing wouldnt have gotten this far without the 1080 and the new canadian air force.

For all the kids here, who diss salomon, i know many who swear by their equipment.
 
fuck, this thread has NOTHING to DO with salomon. that's probably the least signifigant line of the entire poem-rap thing, and yet everyone is talkign about it and letting it dominate the discussion... christ!
 
I already responded to the poem, i was repsonding to the fact that kids here were bashing a crucial part of the industry.

skiing can be anything for anyone as long as theyre having fun and they like it. if some people like to suck dicks and huck 1260s, whatever. why u gotta bash them?

damn, i just read that rap you made, its super legit. i love it how everyone posts "yeah you are so right, i so agree" when really more than half of the kids saying that are kids that are exactly like what you said in the rap. i fucking hate where skiing is right now. all it is is a bunch of pricks, so hyped on themselves to a point where they don't even want to have friends. everything has to be so conformed. no poles is gay, don't try to do fun jibs and butters and new innovative things, cork 9 truckdrivers are the only cool thing. i got to a point because at my mountain, half the kids are like this too, i said fuck it to skiiers, i ride with all snowboarders now and i am finding myself having more fun then ever. i also ride no poles unless im in pow, i dont fucking care about being conformed to every grommet tanner hall worshiper, fuck that. skiing needs new things, new tricks, more ways to just cruise and have fun in my opinion, look at fucking snowboarding, dc mountain lab the video and the road trip section is like the funnest thing ive ever seen, they arent some fucking conformists, they do what they want, and the thing is, people then thought that was cool. like fucking airblasters, that was origionally made as a JOKE, and now look at how many kids rock those things. basicaly i agree with you and skiing needs some new shit and some non-conformists.
 
whats wrong with only wearing siver? I mean personally I dont own any siver but i just dont understand whats wrong with that.
 
Yeah, your comment made me look at what he was saying a little different than I initially did. However, I think the "support till the end" thing goes both ways. Some kids are (imo) even more devoted to "core" companies and diss the big ones without any real experiance with big company products. They hear that core companies do more for individuals - but what more have they done for most of the non sponsored kids than any other company? We need both the big and core aspects in our sport. And if you base your support of a company on what they do for some individuals and not on their product... that doesn't make any sense. In the end, its the product that counts. The product is what gets used and is what the company (whether core or not) is all about. Products and money. I am fine to support both core and large companies. It's those who diss either that do not understand what is really going on in the industry. That being said, I do favor one over the other based on products - not what they've done for me as an induvidual. Because on a good day, the only thing that matters is if you have a good product that works for you under your feet. And this is not based on the poem itself, but on some of the comments that have been made in the thread.
 
I think being an ode, justifies it not being considered a rap. Barring the fact that there is no present beat and musical time. Especially as an ode.

i would put money down that whoever wrote this poem is either one of those big mountain guys who made an attempt at riding park but cant really fit in or keep up, or one of those park kids who cant keep up with tricks and makes himself feel better by hating on everything else.

Dont get me wrong, i cant keep up with the kids these days either, but it doesnt really bother me if they are doing tricks i disagree with- why should it bother you?
 
i compeltly aggree with you. FREEstyle is supposed to be FREE there fore you can do what ever you want. from spandex to baggy, from n00b to pro doesnt amtter
 
What if it's actually someone that actually fucking lives for newschool skiing, and wanted to present their opinions on the monotony of this entire subculture in a more presentable and engaging manner?

I'm not straight up trying to diss anybody, I would just like people to consider what I said in this poem, not take it to heart, just to consider it, so hopefully, at least one or two kids perhaps gets the motivation to say : "hey. you know what? this really isn't that cool. I'm going to start doing shit my way", and BAM, one more kid that's pushing the sport in a more creative and interesting way, by not doing what everyone else is.

You of all people should understand where I'm coming from.
