Occupy Pepper Spray Cop

Before you go making long, drawn out responses, learn what the fuck you are arguing against.

The UC Davis protest were not part of OWS. They were protesting an 8% tuition hike. Seems like a perfectly valid reason to me.

The only reason this shit is still going on is because of the media/cop attention. If everyone just stopped pretending to give a fuck, occupy would go away. but nooooo, we need to make a big deal about it. Just let them sit there for a few weeks without big brother looking down on them, and they'll burn out, go home, and occupy a job.

I go to this school and the protest was for an 81% fee increase to our tuition. Yes it coincided with wall street movement. Just shows how the system is crumbling. And yes a university campus is public space and its Davis on top of that. OP before you call people little whiny bitches, lets see what you can do. I bet you wouldn't even dare man up like these students did and take a chemical agent straight to the face. Sometimes doing the easy thing isn't the right thing. I'm not one to get into a fight on the internet but I would like to beat the shit out of you, a pussy, trash talking little wimp sitting at his computer if ever I saw one.

if you seriously believe we live in a police state you are fucking retarded. try going to cuba, or look at what happened in the soviet union or nazi germany. those are police states. The US is a government with police. these are completely different things. also the limits of american freedom have been shown to be pretty much what is outlined in the constitution. so please go away and shut up

Have you ever been to Cuba? No because your country will not allow just because they have different political beliefs than yours does. Cuban people have a decent quality of life (comparatively against other countries in the are) and they have a real public health care system which is something that the US has yet to figure out. It is just the propaganda from the US government that makes Cuba a police state to Americans.

Youre absoluetely right, i would not "man up" and take a chemical agent straight to the face.

not because i am "a pussy, trash talking little wimp sitting at his computer".

but because i am not fucking retarded.

if i were upset about my tuition costs being hiked, i would speak up.

not revolt against police officers who have absolutely nothing to do with my school, let alone my tuition fees.

sometimes doing the wrong thing, is doing the wrong fucking thing.

oh, and PM me for my address, we can dual like real men at dusk.

you fuckin dirt squirrel.

jim crow laws > tuition hike.

vietnam > tuition hike.

womans sufferage > tuition hike.

safe working conditions > tuition hike.

safe food > tuition hike.

the birth of our country > tuition hike.

kids "protesting" tuition = bunch of complainers.

Tuition is just the face of the problem right now for some people. It runs much deeper than that and I'm sure when something that is relative to you hits, then your perspective might change.

actually...

i was a student at the university of toronto for 4 years.

after graduating i took a year off to apply to teachers colleges.

i then decided to attend george brown college for another 4 years to study architectural engineering.

i graduated last year and am now employed full time, with a excellent starting salary, and great benefits, in my field of study.

i never once received government assistance, any bursaries, or a single fucking cent from anyone in my family.

i worked.... hard.

imagine that.

but thanks for assuming because i dont agree with students "protesting" tuition hikes that i have never had to pay tuition.

further proves your ignorance.

Patriot Act

A "defense" budget larger than all other nations combined

Killing and imprisonment of American citizens without trial

Public beatings against non-violent, lawful protests.

Massive arrests

Federal agents infringing on state issues

Secret prisons

Documented police corruption in all major cities that goes virtually unpunished.

Tracking and recording of every US citizen

Internet censorship

the list goes on...

Everyday more and more of your rights are taken away, and you are telling me to go away and shut up. Go fuck yourself. No nation instantly becomes oppressive, it happens slowly because of apathetic douche bags like yourself.

So let me get this straight. You went to government subsidized "free" college, in a different country than the one up for debate, and you are claiming that as some type of moral authority on the issue?

You never even participated in the American education system. Your government paid for your college. You don't know shit about anything that is going on. Are you serious with that post?

i don't see what the big deal is, their sitting on the fucking ground refusing to move, that officer has a job to do. He told them to move and they refused, officers have discretion he could stand there and write out 15 tickets but do you think they are all going to wait and cooperate and give their names so they can get a ticket? no. besides a ticket isn't an effective punishment in this situation, what says get the fuck out of here better a 50 dollar fine you can pay within 30 days or the feeling of your eyes burning out of your head?

"How can I side with or stand against the Occupy Wall Street? What are they?"

I ran across this in the comment section of NYT article on the OWS movement.

In my opinion, I would give a shit about the OWS movement if they actually became organized, as well presented a clear and uniform message along with their demands. Until they do this, I won't give a shit about the OWS movement.

If they want to actually go anywhere with this, what people are doing currently will not work. It's plain and simple.

Did you read any of the thread before sharing your foolish opinion?

Officer did not have a job to do, he is there to protect and serve. Who is he protecting? Who is he serving? You have to break the law for him to get involved, no laws were broken, as covered under the FIRST amendment.

What is this crazy hate you people have for protestors? This country was founded on protestors, every important change in civil rights and equality came through protests, it is not optional to protest it is an obligation of living in a free country you cowards.

my schooling was free???

jesus, tell my wallet that.

nor did i ever say i was a moral authority, but thanks for putting words in my mouth again.

i guess thats what you do when you dont have facts eh, just pretend like other people said things they didnt?

come on, tell me i didnt pay my tuition again, then change the subject when i prove you wrong.

Well this is tough, because that's not the case. These kids live there, it was on campus and they paid tuition to be there. Paying too much for the tuition was why they were there in the first place. So for a more accurate example, you'd have to go out on your own lawn to protest then refuse to vacate your own property and get sprayed because you annoyed the neighbors.

If I pay 20k+ to be somewhere and I can't sit there peacefully in demonstration without fear of being attacked by those who are supposed to protect our rights (and have taken our money as well), I'd be pretty pissed too. I mean, does our generation really need another Kent state to remind us that the people can speak out against whatever they want? Sure, it may be annoying but someone else might think this thread is annoying. So what? Should someone kick in your door and pepper spray you for not stopping posting? I mean, when do you draw the line once you start squashing peaceful protests by people who have paid money to be where they are, what's next- rental properties subject to the views of the landlord? It's a slippery slope.

I don't like the occupy movement either, but when this type of stuff starts happening something's gotta give.

because no one fucking cares. like get the fuck up and move when the cops tell you. I dont give a fuck what you are protesting when a jake tells you to move you move. if you dont well then you are setting your self up for gettin hit with the pepper.

he told them numerous fucking times, if you watch the video not just some picture you would know that. he told them to move he tried picking people up to move them. no one said anything no one stood up so instead of violently beating the fuck out of people with clubs he just pulled out the pepper and hit these fools. much safer and causes far less damage then pullin the clubs out.

College in Canada is far cheaper and more subsided that in the US. Moral authority means you used your own experiences to discredit others based on personal merit, which is what you did.

Didn't change the subject at all. You went to school in Canada where tuition was much cheaper and you didn't experience a massive increase in tuition, which is what they are protesting? Do you understand?

Just so I can contribute to the pissing contest, I paid for my own tuition and lived in my parents basement for 4 years. I would never say I had 0 help, because people helped me all the time. I paid my own tuition but I could have never survived without that help. My tuition increased by 25% every year, and I protested that and we were able to keep my school a public university and keep my tuition from going from $12,000 annually to $30,000. Because we were able to protest we gave the students a voice, and made it possible for me to go to school. I make more money than you do, and I am still stuck with $20,000 remaining in student loans. There is a problem with education in this country and trying to say there isn't, by using the experiences you had in a different country is so crazy it literally hurts my head.

But it takes more than just people on the streets to actually make progress on this, especially when it lacks leadership and a clear and uniform message. That is what I see as their problem.

I understand their anger about the current state of things, in fact I side with many viewpoints amidst the jungle of the OWS movement. Money does have a corrupting influence in government politics, and that is something that needs to be dealt with, but until they get their act together, they will not have my support.

The OWS movement needs do something that will actually bring them legitimate attention, as opposed to being a fad that will fade with time. If/how they go about doing it is their deal, but I'd propose that they involve themselves in the elections this coming fall. That would be a start.

if that is the opinion you have come to i highly suggest you re-read every word in this post.

i never chastised anyone for being part of ows.

i dont know about us universities, but i have never been to a public canadian university. yes, students pay to attend classes, that does not mean you own a part of the land.

not listening to police officers when asked to move is revolting against police officers.

i have nothing against people that want to protest, all im saying is people should pick a little more reasonable things to protest about.

i never defended the officer. if you bothered to read this whole thread you would know that.

i can understand why he did what he did, i never once said it was right.

everyone seems to think this is a protester vs the rest of society thing.

just cause i dont agree with what they are protesting about does not mean i have "a distaste for protestors".

"In this picture, students sat down to form a barrier so cops could not pass and

repeatedly stated the fact that they would not be leaving. When repeatedly

asked to move, the "protesters" continued to block the path."

i read about that much. the police are outnumbered and when protesters are not letting officers pass by they may seem like they don't have control or may seem threatened by the situation, in which they used pepper spray to show them who's boss. like i said dude it's discretion they could have handled it differently (cops are known to have ego problems) but police can and will step in and take control if THEY feel it was necessary.

jesus h christ.

your condescending tone is so crazy it literally hurts my head.

this --> "I make more money than you do, and I am still stuck with $20,000 remaining in student loans", proves how ignorant you actually are. not once did i tell you what i make nor what i owe.

this --> "You went to school in Canada where tuition was much cheaper and you didn't experience a massive increase in tuition, which is what they are protesting? Do you understand?" Is as ignorant if not more ignorant then your previous comment, not to mention hypocritical. You have never attended a Canadian university, so how in the hell would you know that we dont have tuition hikes?

all you have done is assumed things in this thread.

you have assumed my salary.

you have assumed my student debts.

you have assumed i didnt pay my own tuition.

you have assumed i never experiencde a tuition hike.

and worst of all, you assume because im an not american that i am missinformed.

Ya he looks like he is scared for his life while he is macing everyone...

What if the cops said you couldn't enter a public building and you maced them?

We are getting off topic, but I didn't assume anything. I used available data and came to a conclusion.

Feel free to prove me wrong on any assertion.

thats right, back peddle.

i suggest you use a dictionary and look up the word assume, or assumption.

you seem fairly well educated, so i wont condescendingly inform you of its meaning.

you assumed everything that i pointed out in my previous post. feel free to prove me wrong as to how those are not assumptions on any assertion.

arrogance, and I knew he would key in on it hahaha.

Just trying to prove the point that you shouldn't make assertions about other peoples situation when you are in a very different situation, in a different country.

So you don't think I am correct in assuming your situation? So why would you assert your views on a different situation?

for the same fuckin reason the toronto star newspaper i read this morning has a WORLD section!

last post you said you didnt assume anything, this post you admit to assuming my situation.

youre slipping bro, just let it go.

I am not slipping, slippy.

Just showing how silly it is to marginalize others based on your own, unequal experiences.

Also the assert/assume language was intentional, didn't feel like I had to explain that.

I see a lot of people in this thread dont even understand what was totally going on. Everyone was told to leave the site, most people did. This group of people decided to sit down and lock arms, everyone was told they would be arrested if the did not leave immediately. They didnt leave. They were then told they are being put under arrest and if they do not surrender them selves, proper force will be used. They didnt budge. With the officer standing in front of them, displaying that they will be sprayed if they dont leave they remained seated. The officer sprayed the group as he was told to do by his superiors.

The biggest problem with these protests is how all these asshole protesters will egg on the police for hours on hours until officers are told to administer force, suddenly 400 cameras are out recording "police brutality" and "unnecessary force". Give me a break, if youre a cop that has kids shouting shit at you all day long and youre getting taunted and fucked with, the last thing you need is a video of you pepper spraying a kid cause you were told to by your boss.

I think he had every right to do it I mean they were resisting,.. At least he didn't just pop a cap in every single one of them or went all "Rodney king" on there asses
