Obsethed vs Prophet line.. Changing my Ski Quiver

Ok so I'm thinking about buying a new setup. I searched for comparisons between the prophets and the obsethed, but found none. Right now i have older Chronics & Elizabeths. Although I still like them I think i can make better combos.

What I'm looking for is something:

- thats fun to play with in deep pow, ride switch, butter preferrably rockered. this would replace the lizzies.

- that allows me to ski aggressive on steep (pow) lines.

- that carves well, and does good in the park and on groomers and is very snappy edge to edge. I like to have a ski that can turn on a dime.

- that wont chatter when im going mach 5.

My favourites right now are the Hellbents, Obsethed, Prophet line, Chronic line, Pollard Pro models, Kung Fujas.

Well if you don't want chatter then Hellbents are definitely out. They chatter like shit! Also Hellbents are more of a powder ski, they are to soft for me to be a big mountain ski. So i would say that Hellbents are probably not what you are looking for.

Sorry for double post but i made an error above. I misread what you wanted. Hellbents would be good for the pow but on groomers they get pretty sketchy if you get going to fast. I would recommend the Obsethed because they are narrower and carve better while still keeping the Hellbent rocker and flex. I would say you should probably demo a couple of your choices because skis are all preference.

ya i would take the hellbents solely for pow, but im not sure what to combine it with from the list. Whats good for hard charging steep bc lines, but is also very responsive edge to edge on groomers, not too wide? My best guess is something like a prophet 90 or 100 but i wanna hear your thoughts

If you wanna charge then i would say look at the Motherships and look at the Armada ANT because they both are super stiff and their response is quite nice but like i said DEMO some skis!

First things first, the Obsethed is probably the worst most boring ski I have ever ridden. The whole idea behind it is for seth morrison to straight line Alaska. They are so un playful and just lame. If you want something buttery and fun, just go ahead and cross the Obsethed off your list. I have not skied the prophet series so I am unsure what they are like. When you say charging BC lines I assume like pillows and stuff like that? A ski you might want to consider would be the atomic bentchetlers 123 underfoot or the blogs 110 underfoot. They have rocker, a really really nice flex, but still have a cambered underfoot so on the groomers they arn't as sketchy as hellbents or ep pros. Hope this helps yo!

The hellbents when sitting on the ground only have about 30cm lying on the ground before the rocker begins. They ski very very short.

obsetheds are not really playful but can ski anything you want them too. theyre ok on groomers. to be honest though your asking a lot for just one ski. maybe you need 2, or you should be willing to sacrifice.

Definitely short. And I must say I was shocked by my Hellbents' performance on groomers. While they obviously weren't made for groomers, they were surprisingly responsive.

Get the chetlers or the JJ's. They are the BEST all around ski for anyone. Fully rockered, full camber, full sidecut, and they go inwards towards the tip. They are excellent on pow with the rockers but you will be stoked on groomers cause the camber allows you to turn like a regular ski. Im pretty sure you can mount them in the center too. My buddy has some an pulls cork 7's with them in the same day that we hit 2 feet of pow with 15 foot cliffs, he stomps it all.

you asking a hell of a lot out of one ski, and from what you've said, the 186 prophet 100 would be your best bet. NOW if you ventured onto two skis i would have to say hellbents and line motherships.

i wouldnt rule out the ANT either

Like i said in my first post, Im going for two pair not one :)

Im definitely going for the hellbents for pow. Also ive seen some segments where the hellbents really get charged in the backcountry. Of course I wont go straightlining with them, but I think they will satisfy my bc needs for like 95%

The JJ's look sweet too but somehow everything ive seen done on the hellbents looks like so much fun, ive fallen in love with it.

And yes next to that I'm looking into something like a Prophet 100 or even 90, kung fujas, or even a real park ski. Something that carves well, snappy edge to edge... versatility and agility are key on this one.

you have the answer in that little segment right there, the 100. the fujas wont charge as hard and its softer and more flexible

Yea exactly, but even a park ski could be more nimble. I would be concerned they would be good at high speeds, but then again, some segments you see guys hitting tables at 98mph and theyre skis aren't chattering..

Been doing some more research the past weeks and all the positive reviews really got me interested in the JJ's or the Bent Chetlers. As it turns out Im heading out to Val Thorens next week, so hopefully Ill be able to find a store that carries some and is able to let me demo them!

You should check out the JJ-They are great in pow, and also very good on grooms. They dont chatter very much, and are quite a bit stiffer than the Hellbents. From what you just listed above though, I would say Hellbents for pow though

noone did, ppl just report chatter at high speeds..

anyways 15 years ago I enjoyed doing all these different things incl. skiing steep knee-deep pow with slalom skis with no sidecut, I think I'll be happy with whatever choice i make :)

Wrong! Obsethed's are extremely playful, you just can't ski them like a pussy. Check Collin Collins edits and tell me they aren't playful. I love mine and can butter them easily with their 10/20 rocker.

i know you've probably already gotten your skis but i just have to say that obsetheds are freakin sick. If they were made for seth morrison to straighshot in alaska then i'd say they're pretty good. They are also way better in the park than the prophets, but if you want another option that's not as soft as the obsethed and good for park too look into the line blend. they look sick and are like prophets without the metal.

all good skis. from my experience i say prophet 100s.

this ski handles high speed, pow, park, a bit stiff yet playful, makes carving groomers fun, and could make a sick touring ski. they rip and are easy to control.

hope this helps.

Going to Zell Am See (Austria) in about a month.

Im hoping I can demo some skis there.. From all the replies here and the research ive done after this, right now my main contender are indeed the JJs. They seem a little more versatile than the Hellbents, and slightly better than the bentchetlers. I also wouldn't mind demoing the Rossi S3's and the Kung fujas.. Still liking the prophets but I'd really like some rocker..

1 ski - bentchetler or JJ. bent will be more playful and floatier yet JJ will handle groomed better

2 ski - ep pros or hellbents with prophet 100's

and i dunno who said obsethed's arent playful but my bro rides and he can butter the crap out of them. one of the best transitional skis from pow/ big mountain - park

^^^^^^^I'd demo the S5 instead of the S3. The S5 doesn't have rocker, but is still playful, which would give better groomer performance.

depending on what you like/need, s3, s5 and s7 could all be solid choices. i'm super tempted to try some s3's as they seem so versatile. you might want to check into some shoguns too, 100 underfoot + some rocker. i hear they kill it everywhere.
