Obama Receives More Money From BP in Past 20 Years Than Any Other Politician

whoa, i was just reading this in ski gabber, clicked on back to thread listing and ended up in NSG. total teleportation. gnarly

everybody takes money from everybody.

Baucus, the guy who drafted a lot of the healthcare bill, which people claim is so horrible for insurance providers, took tons of money from them.

Exactly. I made this thread not so much to rip on Obama, well partially, but more to show that it's not just Republicans or Conservatives that take money from oil companies and that this is just one more case of a politician saying one thing and doing another. Hypocrisy at its finest.

And this is totally a problem on both sides of the isle. I just feel that there are a lot of people that think Obama is the best thing ever and can do no wrong. If someone agrees with his policies that's good for them, but at the end of the day he is just another dishonest hypocrite in Washington just like so many others with an (R) or (D) before their name.

But, I suppose my ideals for how our politicians should behave are just too much to ask. But hey, I can dream can't I?

it's not like obama's taking bp's blood money so he can buy himself a fleshlight. they agreed to take responsibility for their oil rig that dumped tons of oil near one of the largest wetlands in the country. under these circumstances i don't find it that ironic or bitchy of obama, it's not like he's condoning the oil industry, he's simply accepting their accountability for a huge fucking problem

but no, "fuck obama" is a much more clear and rational response. i'm glad you don't like him because hating obama is so hot right now, everybody's doing it

it would be a miracle to have a government free of corruption and deception. we used to think we could trust them and that there was very little deception until watergate where nixon made us realize that we probably know about 5% at most of what goes on. look at the coverage differences between vietnam and iraq...it's just gotten worse

just randomly saying that watergate was more or less the pivotal point in which people switched from thinking the government was working in their best interest to believing that the government was chock full of lies and deception. it's gone downhill from there so i don't see politicians reforming their ways and being less hypocritical and deceptive from here on out

but special interests/lobbyists were even around long before that.

i dont necessarily think that receiving money from people is the end of the world either.

while obama may not be as green as i like, hes also certainly not as pro oil as theyd like either

similarly, baucus (i mentioned him earlier) and the healthcare bill may not be quite what i was looking for in healthcare reform, but its a step in the right direction.

are lobbyists a good thing? certainly not, but lets not pretend that this is something new thats going to destroy us all either.

i don't think the healthcare bill was what anyone was looking for but at least it was a healthcare bill. someone tried to do something regardless of how awesome it turned out

yeah. my point was more that lobbyists are nothing new. its sad that no one can get elected with out corporate assistance these days, but i dont think taking money from someone is synonymous with instant and total moral corruption.

wiser words have never been spoken. i hate all politicians regardless of party. money hungry selfish bastards
