As far as the Restrepo comment, well then, you're clearly aware that in NO WAY are US soldiers/the US in general viewed in a universally positive light. Many see us as arrogant, meddling, illegal occupiers with imperialist ambitions. On top of that, we've proven at times to be reckless/careless/incompetent in executing strikes....who's been held accountable for instances where innocent women and children are blown to pieces? Pakistan has been pleading with the U.N. to do something about the frequency and placement of missile strikes for how long? Would the U.S. sit by if say Canada, intending to bomb Mexican Terrorists squatting in the Texan/Mexico no man's land, bombed a church full of Texan school children and nuns because they had intel that it was actually an armory? I don't fucking think so, and I'm goddamn positive that the average Joe Schmoe wouldn't at all be grateful to the punk ass, 23 yr old Canadian soldier who happens to be posted in his neighborhood.

I'm no Obama dick rider, though I voted for him and contributed to his campaign. I acknowledge and am disappointed by the fact that he has been largely unable to accomplish much of what he promised in his campaign. I do however also recognize the climate, economy, and political landscape haven't been very friendly, much in the way that it's not really friendly to any president.

It's good, and actually our duty, to criticize our leaders. There are dozens of things about Obama's presidency to look at critically....he's had to make some significant judgement calls, and you could convincingly argue that he's gotten some wrong. But, it's this stupid fucking bullshit that is ripping this country apart. Really guy? Obama's on vacation? That's the basis of your frustration? Give me a fucking break and get a clue. The presidency is clearly an impossibly powerful and influential position, but no president acts alone, and he is often credited with outcomes/results—both positively and negatively—that he has very little control over.
 
You also need to take into context where the film was shot. The Korengol mine as well be a completely different country than the rest of A-stan. Also Pakistan can shut the fuck up because they are allowing insurgents to use bases just inside the border to launch attacks on FOBs near the border. If they did a better job of protecting and securing their own border we wouldnt need to be dropping JDAMMs on schools that are housing insurgents and munitions.

And US troops are very careful before engaging the enemy, but its a war and there are bound to be some mistakes.

And to those that point out that the stock market has been dive bombing its hardest since the recession began, you know shit about stock market. The 2002 crash was due to people putting so much money into internet companies that made shit, then one day people realized they are useless and people pulled out. I've seen training footage.....I've seen the interaction between our soldiers/commanders and the Afghan police force....the relationship is a total joke, and the US commander showed ZERO respect for the Afghanis and instead shamed them for not having more courage to engage the insurgents.

The parallel with Pakistan that I drew was simply to support WHY many citizens in countries we occupy resent our presence, in the case of Pakistan, the resentment stems from ill advised and ill executed air strikes on civilian targets, among other things. That was my point. You put many words into my mouth that were never intended. I never implied that we were not entitled to pursue military targets within Pakistan, we are, with or without their support, but that doesn't mean that we haven't made GRAVE mistakes, and further, that those very mistakes have shaped public opinion around our presence.

Nothing I've said has anything whatsoever to do with bias, a news media source, etc. These things are indisputable.

Its the fucking military, when you give locations of troop movements to insurgents to plant IEDs and ambush your brother in arms what do you think their NCO should do sit him down and talk about his feelings? They love us when we shower them with millions of dollars and give their children education and fucking candy, but when asked to stand side by side their countrymen and US troops who have been taking bullets for them for 10 years they fucking pussy out.

bottomline: Obama being on vacation has zero to with the country's present predicament, and it's this sort of "journalism" that has destroyed American politics. This is no different than the fiasco of last year when Obama visited India and Asia and everyone was doing the math on the expense of the trip. That was found to be bogus, but how often did we hear it? It was passed as fact, and repeated every hour on the hour by conservative entertainers....unfortunately, it wasn't fact checked....

American politics has descended into a pro sport like field made up of "teams" and "fans" who offer unwavering, unconditional support without for even a second actually thinking critically about anything. The worst part? It's not like people turn 25 and formulate their opinions and views of the world based on real world data and personal experience....nope, mostly, they just adopt the philosophies of their parents blindly, and fight tooth and nail to defend them. Key issues are marginalized, and sexy social issues become soap boxes for blowhards, while things that matter are just further and further put off and de-prioritized. For example, no one who supported the Iraq invasion—and continues to dance around why we went in to begin with—is ever going to want to hear that maybe....just maybe, there's a sizable portion of the Iraqi population that isn't as grateful, and ra ra US as they think. Why? Well, it doesn't fit their schema or idea of the US being above moral reproach and always acting in good faith.

So, good day, and good luck to everyone who spends each day subconsciously deflecting information that isn't pleasant to digest or doesn't bolster the "beliefs" you already hold.
