Obama encourages kids to succeed, conservatives protest...

ahaha when the crying started i thought it was real

heres the real speech, i havent watched it yet

i really dont see the big deal about this speech and the controversy that it is causing. he was making a speech to the kids about being successful, not joining him on his side of the political battle. like some one said earlier in the tread that he is a role model for many kids and that people look up to him. he he speeks the truth about doing hard work to get somewhere. nothing is free these days and you have to work youass off to get the things that you really want. if you dont and you still get them then good for you i guess your just better than the rest of us and enjoi your free ride. maybe im just not as informed about this maybe not, it could be that i just dont give a shit about politics and just watched it for wat it was. and that tim kid damm i hope he gets where he wants to go in life cuz he shure has put a lot of hard workin to it.

then why is it that people in his cabinet like Van Jones (yes i know he WAS a Czar and just resigned but for examples sake i thought it would help) get off on calling Republicans assholes? if someone that Bush had appointed called Dems a bunch of treehugging dirtbags holy fuck shit the world would implode on itself

I think it's good that obama wants kids today to stay in school and work hard, mostly because it's clear that many of the people in this thread and many of the people out there who think Obama is a socialist either didn't stay in school, or didn't pay attention during their social studies classes. It appears as though a large percentage of the population would have benefited from these kinds of pep talks when they were young.

I our DEMOCRATIC president signed the worst stimulus package ever constructed into play, which I will have to WORK MY ASS off to pay back, and it isn't even working. He ruined it just as much as bush. This health care plan is even worse.
By obama adding a surtax on families who make more than 280,000 per year is also punishing people who work hard for their money so that families leaching off welfare or not working as hard can have healthcare. Explain to me how this is fair.
Here are some BULLSHIT things that are coming in this thousand page bill.

-All Non-citizens, ILLEGAL OR NOT, will be granted free healthcare. Now please explain why i should be paying for some stupid mexican illegal's medical problems when he does not help our economy that is already in shambles. He takes AMERICAN jobs and sends all the money he makes back to fucking mexico so the people in his barrio can eat for a month. He is not here legally, he does not deserve fucking free healthcare.
-The government will have COMPLETE access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer. (COMPLETE BULLSHIT. I dont give a fuck what its for, the government does not have the right to have access to my fucking money.)

-All Private healthcare firms HAVE to conform to government rules to participate in a healthcare exchange.
-All Private firms HAVE to participate in this Healthcare Exchange ( I.E government has total control over private plans.)
-Government mandates linguistic infrastructure for services; translation: illegal aliens
-No company can sue the government for price-fixing. No "judicial review" is permitted against the government monopoly. Put simply, private insurers will be crushed.
-The AMA sold doctors out: the government will set wages.
-An employer MUST auto-enroll employees into the government-run public plan. No alternatives.
-Employers MUST pay healthcare bills for part-time employees AND their families.
SOUNDS LIKE FUCKIN SOCIALISM TO ME! you say Republicans would rather see this country fall apart than be run by a democrat. Thats because this country was founded on CAPITALISM, not fucking BULLSHIT government run plans. Republicans would rather sit back and watch DEMOCRATS destroy the CORE VALUES this country was started on.

And for once, im not going to end with some witty remark like fuck you, and your face. 10 years from now, im just going to tell you I told you so.

I don't agree with obama on the better half of all issues, but there wasn't a thing wrong with that speech I watched at school today. I can't be sure how true any politicians life story can be but I like his. Obamas story of a kid that made some mistakes(like coke) and still went on to work hard and accomplish great things is inspiring for me.

I would say obamas address to the chitlins was a success. He probably needed one since getting his healthcare plan off the ground has been hell and hurt a little of his political capital.

fact check time motherfucker. i mean jesus, you didnt even bother to type in your own words, you copy pasted from the chain mail bullshit everyone gets. ill go through section by section for you.

Illegal aliens claim #1 - False. "SEC. 152. PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION IN HEALTH CARE," which says that "[e]xcept as otherwise explicitly permitted by this Act and by subsequent regulations consistent with this Act, all health care and related services (including insurance coverage and public health activities) covered by this Act shall be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services." However, the bill does explicitly say that illegal immigrants can’t get any government money to pay for health care. Page 143 states: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." dont buy into the bullshit the email you got says.

it also doesnt say that they will have access to your bank account. it says it "enable electronic funds transfers, in order to allow automated reconciliation with the related health care payment and remittance advice." There is no mention of "individual bank accounts" nor of any new government authority over them. Also, the section does not say that electronic payments from consumers is required.

again with the control over private plans, This page begins a section setting up a new, national Health Insurance Exchange through which individuals and employers may choose from a variety of private insurance plans, much like the system that now covers millions of federal workers. Any private insurance plans offered through this exchange must meet new federal standards. For example, such plans can’t deny coverage for preexisting medical conditions (page 19). In other words the fat cats that run insurance companies cant fuck you over, its good for you, dumbass.

linguistics. yes you fucking moron, because everyone knows that anyone who doesnt speak english is an illegal alien.... seriously? are you that fucking stupid? this one just makes me laugh.

judicial review. It’s true that page 124 forbids any review by the courts of rates the government would pay to doctors and hospitals under the new “public option” insurance plan. But there’s no mention of “price fixing” in the bill; that’s the e-mail author’s phrase. It also remains to be seen if the “public option” plan would grow to become a “government monopoly,” as the author predicts. i mean after all, if govt care is gonna be so shitty like you all claim, noone except the desperate are going to be on it. so how would they have a monopoly?

wage setting. Nothing in the bill would “set wages” for doctors in general. Page 127 says the government would ask doctors to accept below-market rates set by the government for their patients who are covered by a new “public health insurance option,” JUST AS THEY NOW ARE ASKED TO DO SO FOR PATIENTS COVERED BY MEDICARE. Physicians would still be free to charge what they wish for other patients, and free not to accept patients covered by the new program just as they are now free to refuse Medicare patients. That’s not a choice many doctors make, however, so as a practical matter the government would be setting rates (not “wages”) for many patients. On the other hand, the new “public” plan is aimed mainly at covering people who have no insurance now and can afford to pay doctors little if anything. so actually the doctors will have an increased revenue, from people who normally wouldnt be treated at all, or if so, would be in the ER with no healthcare plan at all, and thus not paying for shit....

auto enroll. it’s true that employers would be required to sign up their workers for coverage automatically, but it doesn’t have to be the “public plan.” It would be the employer-offered plan “with the lowest applicable employee premium” (pages 147- 148). This would only be the "public option" if the employer was eligible to buy coverage through the Health Insurance Exchange (not likely, at least during the first two years when only small businesses would have access), and the "public option" was the cheapest plan (which would be likely). Furthermore, while the employer isn’t given an alternative, the workers are. They may reject auto-enrollment under an opt-out provision (page 148).

healthcare for part time employees. There’s nothing in this section about part-time employees’ families, but this provision does call for employers to contribute toward part-time employees’ health insurance. The bill says that “for an employee who is not a full-time employee … the amount of the minimum employer contribution” will be a proportion of the minimum contribution for full-time employees. This proportion will depend on the average weekly hours of part-time employees compared with the minimum weekly hours required to be a full-time employee, as specified by the Health Choices Commissioner. (For a point of reference: The minimum contribution for individual plans of full-time employees is not less than 72.5 percent of the premium of the cheapest plan the employer offers.)

so basically what this shows is your a typical conservative blowhard, who doesnt do his own research, but instead has bought into some half assed email drafted to scare the living shit out of you. AND LOOK IT WORKED.

im much too lazy to read all that you posted... so, illegal immigrants ARE covered by this healthcare package? if so, that just seems kinda stupid.

no.... in fact there are current laws, and provisions in the plan banning it.

morons also assumed that putting into place multilingual plans (basically they have to have access for people that dont speak english) means illegal alien. because everyone knows, the only people that dont speak english are aliens.

oh no, i understand that last little bit because my mom is a Japanese interpreter and is at the hospital all the time for stupid japanese exchange students hurting themselves...

if having a student visa, speaking japanese, and almost no english means illegal then i guess yes?

when i say illegal i mean dirtbags that sneak over the southern, northern, and miami borders

they are not covered. those kids have a visa, and are therefore legal. not really sure how that works though, i would assume they are covered under their insurance from home? or insurance supplied by whoever they are here with.

the whole lingusitcs things. Why is it that when exhange students come here, we need to speak their language, but when we go over seas we must speak theres. im ganna quote the great american hero ricky bobby for this one. We are in AMERICA WE SPEAK AMERICAN

.... facepalm. i mean seriously. just end your life now, and save this country from 70 plus years of more idiocy

Good to see a well thought out reply. Not being sarcastic at all, though I we don't agree at least you bring relevant information into the debate.

That being said, illegal immigrants are still going to go to hospitals and get treated just as they do now, hospitals can't throw dying people out of the ER.

If the part about health care for part timers is true, then it means you'll be seeing a lot less part timers. You'll have expansion of temp worker companies like Kelly Services in order to circumvent having to pay extra to have part timers. Temp workers will be cheaper to hire.

Medicare is completely broke, I don't see how an expanded medicare, i.e. the public option, could survive long while remaining as Obama claims "deficit neutral".

1. Lets not relate the greatest board game ever created to public school

monopoly.gif

2. Arguing topics such as this is making our country look very bad internationally

3. I happen to agree with some arguments from both sides of this thread. I did learn things I am now glad I know. I thank the debaters from both sides, because i rely on NS as my only source of news, and I find both sides of the argument here, form average Americans, intelligent and not.

4. It is my current understanding that Republicans want to see the nation in a complete standstill. The country cannot possibly move forward like this.

5. I am not particularly for Obama. The recent presidential election was simply who was less bad. And Palin... really?

6. It would be nice for the USA to rank somewhere within the top 10 in healthcare. Since we are such and elite country. I mean I know ther is an overpopulation problem in the world, but this doesn't seem like the ideal solution.

7. Oh look I made a post without calling someone an idiot. I think you people should simply quoted people, and stated facts/opinions, without making sure everyone knows you think they are less intelligent than you... That way the facts/opinions can speak for themselves.

8. This recently developed argument occurring above me regarding healthcare.. There is a large representation of both parties in congress... Wait do they make laws and things? So... will there be a fair bill that is passed regarding healthcare that everyone agrees on? That is the idea of our government.. that everyone agrees on the final product. Isn't there this thing called checks and balances, in order to stop laws that do not benefit the majority of the public?

yeah, well.... fact of the matter is that Bush kinda circumvented the whole checks and balances thing and Obama is as well with his "czars".... idk, i just dont trust the US government....

I also do not trust the government for some odd reason... perhaps it is because in order to become that successful at politics these days, no matter where you came from, you had some backstabbing, lying, and negative campaigning to battle through first.

Weird how i do not trust those who represent me.

it's supposed to be the other way around. the government is supposed to be afraid of the people.

sorry, I read, "take a week off" and didnt see, the stuff about just working and staying out of the public.

Yes, being at martha's vineyard and taking $25,000(taxpayers money) for a date in NYC is not being like the common man. He's not getting closer to the people, when every single person is pre-screened before his townhall meetings and all the questions are prepared beforehand(even the one by the little girl).

I dont know, the only things that could be considered common would be that lunch where he got the burger and asked if they could vouch for their fries. He cant be common. The president that comes to mind as being close to a common man in certain instances would be reagan. He had a small ranch and would always do physical work on it to relax. I think im missing someone that can be considered more common than reagan's ranch stuff.

ironically you know who started having a shitload of czars? the conservative messiah, reagan. and the first guy with a czar at all i believe was nixon.

thank you

and yes, but thats true for anyone that shows up into the er now. the advantage to a public option would be preventative care for those people (not the illegal immigrants, just the uninsured LEGAL CITIZENS that show up) which is a helluva lot cheaper than the emergency room.

did they call them czars though?

and the last set of czars if i remember right were slaughtered by the Bolsheviks.... is that what is going to happen to ours?

again the irony though, what happened after the czars got taken down? the very thing conservatives fear most. COMMUNISM.

ok, im taking poli sci in college and yes, im a conservative. BUT, ON PAPER, (probably cant stress the on paper part enough) communism is the best and most efficient form of government there is. that is all for now.
