I am not a huge nascar fan but i am a huge car and racing fan and this fucking sucks. fuck you obama.

Just when we thought we could take a breather from Barack Obama’s wacky policies, he reached across the Atlantic today to drop another one on us: the White House today announced that GM and Chrysler’s participation in NASCAR racing must end at the end of the 2009 season.

Naturally, NASCAR fans are outraged and NASCAR itself is reeling from reduced team spending.

Obama theorizes that a complete withdrawal from America’s premier racing series is expected to save more than $250 million between GM and Chrysler. Is Obama in the auto business now?

“Automakers used to operate on the principle of ‘win on Sunday, sell on Monday,’ but the Auto Task Force’s research just doesn’t validate that as true,” said the statement from President Obama. . . .

. . . “In order to receive this money, corporations must demonstrate they will spend it wisely. Racing has been said to improve on-road technology, but frankly, NASCAR almost flaunts its standing among the lowest-tech forms of motorsport. NASCAR is not proven to drive advancements that transfer from the racetrack to the road, and this nation’s way forward does not hinge on decades-old technology. We need new, and we need innovation.”

 
makes sense actually... gm and chrysler fucked up, so now they have to earn the money back and not blow it on shit like nascar
 
I'm not a Nascar fan and I'm also a huge car guy, but I can't say that this is the worst decision ever. Does it really make sense for these companies to continue pumping money into racing when they are only surviving because of the bailouts? If they were to declare bankruptcy, I guarantee that the courts would have done the same thing.
 
I'm not going to lie, I pretty much hate nascar. But, it is sad to see a company going out even if they did fuck up many financial decisions.
 
who gives a fuck, the people that watch nascar want to lynch obama anyway so why the fuck do you give a shit about gm involvement in it? our economy is more important than dumb ass 500 lap races on the same fucking oval track that lasts way too fucking long that is horritble to watch besides the last few laps

The mea culpa wasn't enough for Denny Darnell,

who does public relations for Dodge's motor sports program. He wrote in

an e-mail that "I've been in this business more than 30 years and I

have never seen a story so irresponsible."

 
yep when he invests that much he should be allowed to make this decisioni don't see it as that dumb of a decision and it most likely will end up saving money

I think itd be bullshit if the President could start telling businesses what they can and cannot sponsor. Yes we are in an economic crisis, but acting rash wont help anything. I used to be down with Obama, but I'm starting to see him as more and more socialist... a trait that Roosevelt was accused of and as we learn from history (well, some of us at least), socialism is not the answering during a depression. As much as the lower and middle class (of which i am a part) hate it, the best solution to the economy really is to let business run its course. Don't buy American, that will ruin the global economy. Don't spend billions on bailing out failed industries, instead invest new money into new businesses that understand their importance and wont fuck up nearly as badly as companies like GM. If 99% of all jobs come from small businesses, why are we fucking around with huge businesses that don't think and put the entire world into this situation?

yea im a red neck and i love nascar so what its the mostpopular sport right now in north america look there selling out there seats every race it goes to show how loyal the fands are look at foot ball and hockey cant even fill a 50000 seast nascar is filling 15000 to 20000 every sunday.......... but yea its not a good joke to pull and it wont happen cause of all the jobs that would be lost and thats.

who cares, iv never watched nascar in my life, and seeing from the posts no one on ns really cares. let Obama do what hes doing, he obviously has something planned. so stop with all the Obama threads, we voted for him so let him do what he needs to do.

I have to agree, NASCAR is a huge waste of money, and whatever funding the government gives the auto industry should not go into fucking redneck circle racing.
 
i dont see the problem of sacrificing a year or two of nascar to make the economy better. maybe it'll get people off their asses

Its sad to see that the smaller companies like Pontiac, Olds, and Buick have to suffer because of this, they made great cars. But GM as a whole has killed alot of the good shit they and the smaller companies have put out.
 
true, but thats beside the point. obama is dictating that they withdraw funds and cut ties. they deserve it, but OBAMA IS MAKING THEM. the president shouldnt have this much pull with shit like this. its not a dictatorship.

If obama wanted to destroy nascar he would switch our driving system around so that we would drive on the other side of the road. Due to perfect logic NASCAR drivers would be forced to turn right. FUCK WE DIDNT PRACTICE RIGHT TURNS~
 
I think the law did just change for the fuel efficiency requirements. The entire fleet average has to increase by like 3 mpg or something, which is more than it sounds.

And to proletariat. No it isn't a dictatorship. But you realize that GM and Chrysler are getting bailed out with your money right? That's why he is intervening. It's basically like, we voted for him for our voice, and now he is saying "You're spending all of our money, if we are going to give you OUR money, we want some changes." And so now, some changes are being made. Do you want to just keep spending more and more of your tax dollars on something that is just continually failing and not changing at all? I don't know how old you are, but maybe it isn't a big deal to you because you may not pay that much in taxes. But to the rest of us and to your parents, it's a big deal.
 
First of all im going to say that GM Chrysler does not spend 5 mill a week to put the cars they have out there thats what Sponsorship is for, they did back in the old days of the 70s when there were factory backed teams. all they do now is provide all the teams with very little sponsor ship R&D for motors and bodys when they change the style thats pritty much all that GM and Chrysler do. and for people loosing there JOBS withought GM or Chrysler doing what there doing now supplying motors and bodys you wouldent see GM and Chrysler ar the track which meand less team so pritty much people are loosing jobs, i know the biger teams like Hendrick, Rouch, JGR. there hole organizations run up 8000 people that are employed. so pritty much if GM and Chrysler pull out of NASCAR your left with Ford and Toyota. and pritty much the WIN ON SUNDAY SELL ON MONDAY saying still hapens people just dont see it as much.
 
THIS IS SO FUCKED UP.

First off, I don't like NASCAR. I love Indycar, but this is horribly fucked. Maybe this will help to establish open wheel racing as the racing staple of the US, but its going to enrage many rednecks. But I am also enraged at the government limiting our freedoms, telling companies and people what they can and cannot do. What people need to realize about this, is that once obama fired the CEO of GM, the contract with GM and the government was void. He violated the contract. Read the language of the paper. It is there. GM should say fuck you to the government.

IT IS TIME TO GET THIS MOTHERFUCKER OUT OF OFFICE(impeach), along with Biden and Pelosi.
