you have a tenuous grasp on politics. the presidency changing parties, or even congress does not make lightning changes, things take time, people need appeasing, bills need doctoring to get pushed through.... and yeah, cite me an article where he said those words exactly please. half of the first term is working on reelection for the second term so you can actually effect the change and policies you want without trying to gain the support of republicans. Politics is a game - candidates obviously say shit to get elected, thats the nature of a two-party system. every 4 years someone is supposed to lead some sort of movement - because this doesn't happen, politicians have to craft a narrative that will help draw in votes. this is not only how politics work, but an expression of how people work. talking data and policies doesnt secure the votes of the idiotic or uneducated (a large portion of the US) it is buzzwords like hope and change. so you have to play the game to be a part of it, which means using sensationalist speech tactics. moreover, the effects we are feeling economically in this country are a holdover of the '08 recession, which was a product of the Bush years of deregulation and the subprime mortgage crisis which happened under a republican government, not completely due to Obama's policies of early 2009, which are still taking effect. they say the best measure of a presidency is the how the country is faring during the successor's turn. republicans did amazingly Romney 2012 the whole economy will be fixed in a day.
