Oakley Lenses

I have realized that the description of the lens tint (what light they are good for) on the oakley website and how they work and look like in real life is very different. So lets share our thoughts and experience with the different lenses.

So far i have had the persimmon and the blue iridium lenses for my crowbars.

Persimmon is a good all round lens but it does choke a little in brighter lights.

Blue iridium is a sweet all round lens that works great during sunny days, as well as cloudier days. It also looks extremely sick and is a lot more mirrored than what the picture shows on the oakley site.

Haven't had the chance to try any of the other lenses but I'm curious what they are like.

So lets start sharing! =)

Pink Iridium - excellent fot all conditions, MAYBE lets a bit too much light through on bluebird days

High Intensity Blue/Yellow - Also a great lens for overcast conditions, excellent for depth perception and for flat light

Fire Iridium- Great for sunny days, even some clouds here and there when it gets a bit darker. Totally mirrored steeze.

Persimmon- All around lens, not mirrored. Can be used in very sunny conditions but it's a bright. can be used in low light conditions but it's pretty flat. It's usable all around but doesn't excel in any particular area.

For one lens I'd get persimmon. I really couldn't see skiing while it's snowing or dark with Iridiums.

pink iridium - cut the bullshit haha, its a clear lens with an iridium coating.

black iridium - works just as well as fire but doesnt look as gay.

persimmon - pretty useless in my opinion.

clear - why not just get pink iridium, its clear and is so much more dope.

vr28 - step below black iridium and step above persimmon, so its a good all around lens.

Haha, he seems like a little kid in that vid. Must say those combos aren't really that nice looking...

ur a dick.

anyway, im looking into some lenses, these will be used during the day, anywhere from snowing to bluebird. anybody know from experience what the difference is between gold iridium, black iridium, blue iridium, pink iridium, and fire irdium? i mean, yes the color is different, but is there really one that is better than the others in that list? does the color really affect the vision that much???

yes fire is like super dark havent tryed the others but black iridum and i like the black its a nice cross that can be used in flat light and still do work(for me)

Pink Iridium is good for dark-medium conditions. Really good all-round lens, but does let too much light through during really sunny days

fire iridium very goof for sunny conditions

black iridium good for sunny until medium conditions

persimmon is good for all condition but quick limited in lighter conditions

i used fire yesterday and it was sunny on lower mountain and on the top there was no sun just windy and dark and they held up fine. I think theyll be fine in even darker conditions too.

I remember reading that blue isn't that good, and not very versitile, but someone who has one could offer a better opinion.

From what I've tried on and owned

-Pink iridium, really versatile, might not be ideal for really sunny days

-Fire, really dark, I think you could pull it off quite well if you get used to it, perfect for really sunny days, but should be manageable on flatlight and such.

-Persimmon, obviously most versatile, could pull this off at any time, little weak on really sunny days but other then that you could use it for everything.

thats crowbar...

A frames Ive had gold iridium & g30 i think might be a hi-persimmon. The hi persimmon was pretty sweet, but the reflectiveness isn't enough to make me buy it over some other full mirrored lenses.

Gold iridium kinda tints the same as it looks, but I can't really remember how dark it tints, if I remember correctly it seemed pretty versatile but I'd stick to a pink irid/fire/black.

Pink Iridium: Best all around lens that I've ever used, can use it at night no problem, they arent the best when its really bright, but for everything else they're wonderful

Black Iridium: Perfect for partly cloudy to bluebird, fine for overcast too, but less than ideal once it gets darker in the late afternoon.

I use the pink irid. I love it. Its a little to clear on really sunny days.... BUT, if your eyes are good and not too sensitive, they will compensate for you. perfect.

agreed. and if youre wondering what it looks like, go to your bathroom and look at the mirror. thats what it looks like

i use blue iridium and its a darker lens but it works good on cloudy days as well. and it looks steezy as hell! looks very different from the pictures on the oakley site.

Pink Iridium- my favorite- very good lense for everything EXCEPT super sunny days

fire iridium- very good for sunny, ok for cloudy days, awful for nigh as expected

persimmion- ok lense. ok for everything buy pink iridium instead

can anyone post pics of their lenses?? like, what pink iridium and black iridium looks like in real life?

I have only used the fire iridium once and I would say that the blue iridium is a little lighter and will work better that the fire on darker days, and well I think just as good on sunny days. and lets face it.. everyone has a fire lens and they look kinda gay. I get lots of good comments on the blue iridium =) hope that helps.. I could post a pic if you want.

depending on the angel and light, some times the lens might look purple and even yellowish.

i don't know. have only tried the black iridium in the oakley shop and it did seem to be a little darker than the blue but I have never skid with it. but i hear that the black iridium lens is almost as dark as the fire, but still darker than the blue...

does anyone know what the deal is on the ruby-clear or whatever they are called? are they just clear??

Hi-Intensity Yellow- Great for low and flat light conditions. it's really amazing how much contrast is brought out for me. I could see the trail fine when a friend with persimmon and one with black iridium couldn't. they work in the sun, but it's definitely going to be bright.

hi-yellow is great for foggy condition and night skiing(although the clear lens is better for that) but if you wear it on a sunny day, your eyes will hurts and get so red everybody will look at ya like you just smoked a big one. The hi-persimmon lens is similar to the hi-yellow but it lets a bit less light in so it perform well in foggy conditions but it wont kill your eyes on a sunny day. The g30 is like a blue iridium but a bit darker.

i have a black irid lens on my crowbars, holy fuck its amazing, it works in fog sun and even at night although visibility is not very good, and that comment made about look into a mirror its the same, yeah it actually is, so reflective

Yo, i got the Seth Morrison Signature Series Crowbars with the black iridium lens. Fucking sik gogs but they fucking suck when its cloudy or low light, cant see any contour in the snow. Great fucking lens for high sun levels tho. I'm looking for another lens if anyone has one for sale as well as red outriggers. P.M. if you got any.

is brutal in flat light!i had flat light all this week and couldnt see any landings! good for night lens thou

Here's the deal. If you are a serious skier, you should have a quiver of goggles/lenses. Here is what I currently think about the Oakley lenses based on my use:

Sun Lens:

Fire = Darkest

Other good options = Black Ir, Gold Ir, Vr28

General Cloudy Lens:

Pink = I like it a lot

Other good options = persimmon, G30 (have not used this though)

Night/Super flat/puking snow:

Hi Yellow

Clear

I have them both because I grew up on clear at night.

I also have Blue iridium for partly sunny days. I think that Blue Iridium is about as close to a 'do everything' lens as you will get.
