the mayans predicted something like that, like scientists and scholars found that the mayans predicted the world would end sometime in 2012, obviously they didnt say 2012 but the scholars figuered it out to be then . it was in a movie about the mayans i watched as a freshman
 
Controlling it anymore? We are as free as we have ever been as humans. I don't know why you're all anti-government, but you should damn well respect that you have freedom. Let me tell you something the government as a whole is not corrupt, individuals may be, but not the government. We know who's controlling it you meathead...it's called VOTING...something 40% of the nation doesn't do.
 
This is a lot more legit than the tripod site saying Russia had 24,000 or some bs, but the reality is we don't know how many anyone has. Especially we as the public do not have ANY idea what the US has for nuclear bombs. For all we know we could have 8 and Russia could have 3.

Anyway, nuclear war is inevitable. Eventually (if we make it this far), resources will become scarce and clean water/food will be hard to find. This is when nuclear war will come into play. If you are going to die of hunger/thirst what do you have to lose? You have nothing to lose...and that's the scariest enemy to fight. Japan did it in WW2. They had nothing to lose at one point and ordered Kamikaze strikes on US naval ships. Granted they didn't have nuclear weapons, but if they did, they would have most likely used them.

Nostradamus prophesied many things that would happen. By coincidence he was right on a few, he was wrong on many others. There are many "prophets" who claim armageddon stories and such.

The way I see it now, WW3 is a longshot away and probably will be faught out of desperation. This I mean by a propable chance of fighting over water and food.

How I truly think the world will end is that we will begin to rely on technology far too much. Once all of our lives are based on electronics, all it takes is one EMP bomb and the US economy ceases to exist. I believe by then we will have messed up earth so much that it will gradually begin to take its cycle that it has taken over the billions of years of existance.
 
yo even if we did get bombed, we have the technology to use lasers to shoot nukes out of the skies no joke either
 
Yo guess what though. If we shot a falling nuke with a lazer then it would explode in the sky instead of the ground. That's almost worse. Not only will it create an huge hole in our atmosphere, but it will cause a radiation downpour spread out in a wider radius than would have been affected if the bomb exploded on the ground. An averave nuclear explosion covers around a 33 mile diameter of effected space. If it were still given time to fall to earth, it would have that much longer to spread out and cover more ground, possible effecting as much as 50 miles. Then everyone in the 50 miles would have radiation, which is not something that is easy to get rid of, and causes birth defects and death to those effected. As bad as it seems, it would be more humain to let the bomb hit the earth, because more lives would be spared.

the next nuke will not be used by a country, i think it will be used by a terrorist organization since they are getting alot easier to make. They have bombs the same power as the ones that went off in hiroshima that now fit in a backpack
 
ya just on a side note the news today says north korea is preparing to test launch an icbm that is capable of traveling over 6000 miles, thats far enough to reach us in case your wondering. oh ya and the news also said Bush is a little pissed about it. Oh and Iran is currently enriching uranium for a "power plant for energy". But in my opinion who the hell are we to go around the world telling countries they can or cannot have nuclear weapons, we have them right? And last time i checked we are the only ones in history to ever drop one on another country, sort of hippocritical don't ya think.

Thank you caleb for attacking my opinion, but do you really think we are the teachers and iran is a student, good analogy but i'm sure iranians would be pretty upset about your opinion of them. Besides the whole U.N. can't even agree on sanctioning iran for what they are doing, russia and china are actually backing iran. Meanwhile we are currently developing more intense nuclear bombs in our country but telling others they can't experiment. I say let em have it if they wanna sit on em like we do, if they ever launch one then lets take them out, no one ever attacked hitler for building an army until he started rolling countries and committing attrocities. The world would not end because of neculear weaponary, human life would end. And as the world is right now humans are pretty much an irritating rash and dont worry it will clear up soon enough.

Yes except for the fact that there is not 24,000 near your house. Wow, you know where a few are. That is nowhere near the thousands that site claimed we had. You cannot argue this with me, there is no way the public can know how many nukes we have. It's not a moot topic in the slight.
 
The Star Wars program was Reagan's idea and the program, Strategic Defense Initiative Organization, ran until the end of the Cold War, 1991. And then in 1993, Clinton reanmed the program Ballistic Missile Defense Organization. And after 9/11 Bush decided to implement a plan call "Son of Star Wars", basically like a missile defence shield.

At least some papers are useful sometime.
 
as to the US's nuclear missile capabilities, sure you could argue that the thousands of missile silos spread throughout the midwest are just decoys, an elaborate threat tactic. But really, logically, would it be worth the money to build all the missile silos and missile submarines as part of a threat tactic instead of spending the money to actually construct nuclear warheads? No. Like Caleb said, it's not too difficult to get a rough estimate of the number of the US's nuclear warheads.

It is sorta weird when you see all of the cultures and predictions about the end of the world, many occur around 2012... but its bullshit. Probably.
 
Somewhat...maybe, accurate...no way in hell. Silos don't always mean nukes and some silos are hidden and covered. We also have bases that have silos and test areas that the public would never be allowed to enter.

The laser defense system he (liberty?) was talking about is NOT star wars.

The system they are working on now rides piggy-back on a 747 or some big ass commercial sized airliner and it zaps long range missiles out of the sky. Do we have it working? I have no clue, but it sure as hell isn't the original Star Wars program.

There's a lot of misinformation crawling around in this thread too. Numbers of nuclear weapons are irrelvant. In fact, A-bombs are irrelevant... fusion weapons (H-bombs) are infinitely scalable. For you kiddies this means that the more hydrogen (tritium, deuterium) you put in the bomb, the bigger it will explode. You can put in as much as you want. Therefore, we as humans have the ability to blow the earth up in one SINGLE shot if we felt so inclined. (The physics of this explosion would actually toss us out of our orbit, fucking us over either way).

This alone means that A bombs are a thing of the past (do you hear that Iran?) and that a single H-bomb could out-explode every A-bomb that exists on this earth. The U.S. is STACKED with fusion weapons... as is Russia, and the other big players who have had nuclear tech for a long time (Great Britain, France).

If you're worried about somebody lighting off a nuke, it would be Israel in response to somebody fucking with them for the 1,000th time. That is my opinion. Although Kim Jong Il is pretty much batshit insane so he's a possibility too.

If people are unsure of what they are saying, it's OK to ASK. Don't just vomit onto the keyboard and act like an authority on the subject.

Theoretically, yes. But the problem lies in that there is not enough accessible hydrogen in the world to make a warhead big enough to blow up the earth or throw it out of orbit. Most modern hydrogen warheads are about 1000 times bigger the atomic warhead dropped on Hiroshima. BUT, in testing, hydrogen weapons 1000 times as powerful as the one that blasted Hiroshima produced equally serious blast damage over an area up to about 130 times as large, not 1000 times as large.

But ya never know the pres. of Iran said israel should be wiped out and the holocaust was a hoax, sounds pretty bat shit to me. He swears to not stop enriching uranium and now we're telling him we won't join diplomatic negotiations again until they stop enriching uranium. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I'm just waiting for a full on draft or really legitamate war before i sign up to hit the front lines in the service.
 
Star Wars was meant to shoot ground to air missles or satalite missles at the nukes. The SDIO, I believe, was started in 1984 by government funding. The idea was to set up a nuclear X-ray laser to "bring down" nuclear missles.

Isreal probably wouldn't use nukes. Frankly, because they don't have to. Their air force and IDF is easily capable of taking over the middle east 3 times over.

I think Pakistan and India would probably be the ones to use the first nuclear weapons. Both are nuclear ready and able. Both had tensions almost at the brink of war, but I really don't think they feel imposed to do so anymore.

And for the point about destruction areas that's because the only way to fully utilize the blast of an H-bomb is to have it surrounded by your target in 3D... not just laid beneath it in 2D, hence the loss as much of it is vented into space (no joke)

You guys need to check out the DVD "Trinity and Beyond"

It's SICK. We used to launch nukes into space and light them off which would disrupt ALL radio communication for entire continents not to mention EMP quite a large area. Basically it's like goldeneye, but for real.
