so i'm headed up to there in a few weeks to ski for 2 days and was wondering how their park is this year. a buddy of mine skied at boyne highlands last week and said it kinda sucked.(their park). so if nubs is good we'll just go there both days. any info would be sweet thanks

nubs used to be really good before the lawsuits and crap so now they arent making jumps besides that crappy step down.bittersweet is the place to go now with 3 tables and a step up and rails

I will be hitting that up on my spring break as I always down, but I don't ever think I would classify their jumps as good. They have always had a nice rail setup though.

i went there like a month ago

step down.

and then lots of boxes and rails

alos the massive super pipe

watch out that thing can make you dizzy

ha

pm me if you want pictures of their setup, i took some

Yeah, I believe Nubs does maintain their very nice selection of rails and does a awesome job grooming the 2 perfect half pipes they have. The Boynes usually have a nice set up at either resort, although its usually a little more advanced for about 60% of its users, but good. The ones that gets me is Crystal and where's Schuss in everyones favs.? Crystals is usually poorly maintained(when ive been there),(pick up a rake and shovel guys)with the same rails year after year. Schuss on the other hand is staffed with a crew daily keeping the 3 parks looking crisp, groomed Daily, HAD JUMPS and TABLETOPS last year, had a new 480' long 13' walled 1/2 pipe that was groomed weekly. I heard they may have a couple of wall rides plus some new boxed rails for '08-09. You can't beat $5 wed night tickets and a $99 Sunday season pass. Yeah, it takes them till x-mas to open all the parks, and mid-Jan to get them all dialed in, but having 3 parks for different levels keeps the gapers out of the big park. I would recommend Nubs then Schuss for your N.MI jibbin trip. No park can satisify everyones taste, but variety and checking out and riding as many parks as possible not only makes you a better rider, but also a better consumer. High-Speed lifts don't make up for crappy parks.

considering Nub's didn't have any jumps, i'd say don't go there expecting a good park. in fact, don't go anywhere south of the bridge and expect a good park. MM or don't waste your money.

and that's coming from the guy who spent the whole season at the bottom of the Nub's Nob park running the lift...

when i was there it was alright. only one jump, a little step down, but they had a bunch of rail to make up for it. and the two halfpipes. a huge one one the other side and the mini halfpipe with the rest. but whatever haha i thought it was decent anddddddd in ohio we have jumps which im pretty sure, is south of the bridge

nubs is a hell of a lot betta than most parks in the mid west at least i think so.... didnt go this past year but when i was there it was ok.... their huge pipe is dope....

A. nub's nob is the SHIT.

B. come on man, ur actually considering boyne over nub's. i find this hard to believe

C. Nub's superpipe absolutely owns anything the boynes' throw at you

D. Nub's park has a crap ton of rails/boxes and with any luck at all they will have some sick hits this coming year.

I rode Nubs and all the other resorts around Michigan that made sense to try to get to last season, and they were all so so sad as far as I am concerned.

But for the Mid-West I'd have to say the Otsego Club is super fun. The Otsego Club and Resort out of Gaylord Michigan is a total surprise. They have made a total commitment to Planet Snow Design and they are making the best park they can given the Michigan terrain.

They added 15 new Planet Snow Tools rails last year and are getting 15 more this year including 3 new wall ride features. They are extending

there pipe to full length with dirt work and so like last winter they will hopefully be the first mountain in the region with a full terrain park on opening day.

They are creating an All Mountain

Park Program, so rails and jumps on every run new full time transition

park and a jib trail. I know given the commitment they showed last year this year is going to be even tighter than last year with all kinds of fun feature for everyone.

I am used to being in much much bigger venues as I live on the west coast and travel to over 50 different venues a year from Happo Japan to Laax Switzerland but for the simple low key feel of a really rad park situation, this resort honestly is really really fun. When I am in Michigan again this winter I will of course ride as many resorts as possible again, but really none of the other resorts can even be compared. It is really to such a degree I would say don't waste your time if you like Pipe and Park as Otsego's O-Park is extremely user friendly. Check out there new site

website isn't much to look at but the place seems really legit..i definately wanna check it out next season..you say right out of gaylord?

Yes they are right there in Gaylord so from Detroit it is the closets area or from Traverse I hit it with only a 40 minute drive

With all the new dirt work they should be the first ones open this spring for sure

way stoked about this place i think it's only like 4 hrs from w.cleveland maybe so i'm going for sure this winter

eh more like 5 hours and 15 minutes from avon (15 miles west of cleveland) so if it seems to be better than big boulder than i will head up there for sure

Found this vid on youtube (editing is sick, anyone know the name of the song?). Place looks nice and it looks like they have a lot more room to add more rails and what not.

I would embed it but it is not loading for me once I click the little thing

Im sure Ryan and his crew has created a sick new scene and idea of riding in here in MI. The problem is, unless something changes, Otsego Cub is only open to club members. They did do night skiing a couple of nights last year, that was open to the public(so I heard), but thats only chairs 1-3. the best terrain is off chair 5. Not open everyday. Trust fund bitches do apply. I would think if you have access, take it.

Well... really to think of the resort as a "club" is not how I saw it last season, but I know nothing of the history nor did I get the "snob-like feel" from anyone a rode with or saw there. I guess not being from Michigan I just what I saw it for what it was and what it is moving forward.

I know it is all new owners as of last season and an entirely new approach to running the operation.

Sounds like it will be an action sports mecca from my understanding with everything that I am into from Skateboarding to BMX to Mtn Bike and terrain parks

I guess it is now more like buying a season pass to a resort that has more equipment and is always in perfect order. I think the midweek passes are available for the public for day tickets but you can buy basically what is a seasons pass or a "membership pass" for under $395 I think or at least what I paid last year.

I guess "club membership" and "seasons pass" are really the same thing accept you get to go swimming in the year round heated pool for free with this seasons pass, not a bad bonus after a day of shredding as far as I was concerned.

I am excited to go back for sure.

From what I heard is they are trying to make some type of exception and also they are planning Saturday events that would make a guest exempt from any rules even if they do not change the rule so if we compete in the event we can ride there and utilize the facilities usually to compete at an event registration comes with a day ticket

sooo for this otsego park... is there any way to get a daily lift ticket? Or would you have to call in some favors/act like your a major film co.?

Ryan:

Do you have any contact with management at this place? I would love to hold a jeep event there, it sounds like just the type of place we are looking for. Would be a day event with rider instruction, demo team, giveaways and rail jam/small comp...and it's free for everyone! Let me know what you think.

Keven

Yes get with Michael Bedells

I think he is the guy who can help plan this for you

basically I think anytime there is an event you can ride the mtn for entry fee at this point not sure though Id get with the members lady and ask she would know best Liesel McNeil

its going to be sick they just finished a new trail that will be the longest trail on the mtn and is going to be for the terrain park they also are doing work on the back trails to extend the jump line to possible six booters in a row pretty pumped if we have a good winter in will be super sick up there

disregard this post. i actually worked there... the whole season. the park was not worth traveling to from anywhere downstate or farther away.

as for the "south of the bridge" comment. don't be a dumb ho, i was obviously only referring to Michigan.

If you want park check out marquette mountain or the otsego club like others have mentioned.

i was fortunate enough to meet the GM of the otsego club through some friends and he has made a total commitment to their park, and told me they have some sweet shit in the wings as far as future years to come.

the only hitch is, i think they're a private place, aren't they?

From what I know... Otsego is still private, but allows non-member to ski it the nights its open midweek, Wed, Thur, with limited terrain (3 of 5 lifts). Its suppost to have features off every lift this year. You could get a pass there last year for $395, that allowed you to buy a daily ticket. The new rails are i the parking lot, I saw 2 pincic tables (8' and 20'?), A-frame wall ride, a c-box built on top of a curved wall ride, and some other kinked rails. If you want the best, you have to pay.

i won't ever hate on my home hill nubs and boyne,

but it makes sense that the otsego club has the best shit, they have the money to be insured to build jumps and the money to actually build and buy new features, they've got a good thing going on down there.

Ya Well Last year was one thing but this year is another

You will be surprised

Check the Picts I just posted Under Rails and Under Halfpipe

stop complaining and ride cuz it aint nothing but a chicken wing

opipedirt.jpg

This is the new dirt work at Otsego it will accept the 22ft pipe when

we are ready for it and give them the Standard 18ft Super Pipe perfect

Standard Olympic Competition length with an absolutely perfect pitch

what they had last year was only a drop from what they will have this

year in the way of Pipe, Rails and Jumps

and YA the one jump you saw was the front side beginner jump that was

the only jump public was aloud to hit last year the backside had three

other jump and this year they intend to have 2-3 times the features and

Jumps effectively they are going to litter the entire mountain with

Jumps of all sizes

basically the price of admittance from what I gather is a seasons pass

no day tickets unless you know a friend who has the seasons pass this

dirt work will work perfect and is better than the dirt work I built

for Park Cities Olympic Pipe which I continue to build each year

they may not have length in runs but they definitely will have a ton of

variety to make up for the short runs but aren't all the "hills" in the

midwest or east coast for that matter short

at least they are not several miles long of trails like were I live and

ride from like the 3300 vertical feet up at Snowbird in Utah

but if its terrain park you want you got it at Otsego

don't bitch anymore just ride it

trust me going into my 25th year of riding I have seen it all and you

really don't have to go anywhere else to get a better terrain park

especially since there are ZERO lines

Otsegos new rails

New

rails for Otsego

complete wall ride bowl with Synthetic snow surface, A frame wall ride

that pulls apert to become a 24ft wallride with canted coping deck,

flat down with Creeper, another C-Rail, Down Flat Down Rail, Hawk Box,

Dance Box, 10ft and 20ft picnic tables and new bouy Jibs and many many more and this is just the new rails on top of the 15 or so that were barely used last year
