NS's Telemark Skiers

I'd be interested to know if there is a subset of tele skiers (like myself) on here.

Post your setups and discuss the virtues of freeing up the heel and dropping a knee....

good number of tele skiers on here.

when I tele I ski on 185 Tua's mounted with Targa T/9's.

a lighter setup than most have and I love it. although on the average east coast riding the lift day I'll be on downhill.

I ski on older K2 Public Enemy's with hammerhead bindings, scarpa t1 boots. This will only be my second season but I love it

I'm looking to get a new pair of skis, thinking of something fatter.... like 100+ underfoot.

does anyone have an suggestions? opinions on tele skis with rocker? (for reference I'm considering the surface new lifes)

It stinks like patchouli in here, ugh.

Also I just stepped on somebody's pouch of Jerry Garcia. Might want to keep that someplace special, dood.

I've been smoking a lot of weed lately and eating more granola. Bought an old Westfalia and haven't cut my hair in a couple months.

Thinking about getting a tele setup now. I see myself as worthy in the Norweigen tele gods eyes.

Really though. I need boots and bindings. I have a brand new pair of Icelantic Keepers in 189 cm sitting in front of me. I've been interested in tele for awhile.

So what do I do? Buy some FKS and new alpine boots or go for tele bindings and boots?

Im just worried about being able to push around those 189s with a tele setup since I'd be a free heel JONG.

Liking this!

Park Setup.. just got to ride them first time today and stoked!

2013 Armada Alpha 1s w/ 22D Hammerheads!

Pow/Snow Fell!

2013 Armada JJs w/ 22D Axls!

Who else is pushing tele in the park?

I love the Armada JJs. Great rocker tip and tail and a smidgen of camber. Pretty sure this is fool proof. Riding them with the 22D Axls this year.. can't wait to start skinning!

Im starting tele this year. Super excited about it. It will make my last(hopefully) season down here in North Carolina/Georgia more exciting.

So far, I got some Crispi CXR 4 boots. One of my buddies is hookin me up with skis, so I dont know what those are yet.

Mostly, I'm just excited as shit to learn something new. Can't wait to try tele switch too.

one of the best things i was told while i was learning was "butt to boot" .. always! when learning it is really to teach yourself how to do "fake" turns/"poodling", forcing yourself deeper when learning makes yourself engage the real turn more or less. once you get comfortable you can begin skiing taller.

i really want to get into tele skiing. A highschool buddy got really good in the park on them and dropped knees look so dope

my school used to let you rent a decent setup for like 5 bucks a week. I wanted to try it when I was between sets of skis and my skis were trashed, but they said they sold them all because there was no interest.

Still itching to get out there and try it but I dont know the next time Ill have a good opportunity

I've messed around with it before on my dads old set up from the mid 70's (yay 3-pin bindings with no heel cables!) at my house and it was pretty fun, I've been looking around for set ups this summer but haven't bought anything yet.

If anything I will be using this setup for semi-xc touring in central mass, anyone have an recommendations on bindings/boots? I'd like to keep the boots lightweight, preferably leather or leather/plastic combo

I'm thinking of mounting tele bindings on my main skis this year after 4 years or so of having them on my backups. Anyone here want to weigh in on traditional duckbill bindings vs. NTN vs. TTS? I ski about 80% lift serviced terrain, 20% off piste, but I'm looking to even out that percentage within the lifespan of this set-up (In the last two years I've acquired a beacon/shovel/probe and my Avy level 1).

The cost of a duckbill set up would be 0 (I could just claim some of my dad's old gear as mine). A NTN setup would only cost bindings/mounting plates (once again, dad has an extra pair of boots). And the TTS setup would have to be fully bought.

Would TTS be able to handle park? Or is that a stupid question. Is it even worth looking into if I'm not using the setup 100% for touring?

I love the 100% natural failsafe mechanism of tele skis.

your ACL.

I respect good tele skiers and think it is super tech and stylish especially in park settings. They used to be the best option for bc access, but not any more. Dynafit setups are lighter. Alpine setups are more bomber. And most of the tele skiers I see barely drop knees and make lots of awkward alpine turns. These days I see tele skiing as an attempt at uniqueness paid for by an equipment compromise.

Just copy paste from another thread:

"I have always enjoyed the inbounds bootpacking terrain in summit county (Key, Breck, ABasin), but hated the bootpacking part. I plan on building up a tele setup possibly this season but more likely by next season. An option that I have been looking into is a glueless skin like the 4FRNT skins or Gecko Glueless. The bootpacking trails are usually 1-2ish miles of not very steep terrain. I really just want to be able to slap them on and off when needed and make short speedy laps.

The terrain if you are interested/if it matters is:

Keystone: Erikson, Bergman, Independence, North, and South Bowls, and the Windows.

Breck: The Back Nine hike to terrain

Arapahoe Basin: Hike-To at bottom of Montezuma, and probably future Beavers terrain.

Stuff like Upper East Wall at ABay and Peak 8 Summit at Breck seem too short to warrant use of skins(?)"

"And somewhat related to my above post, what are your guys opinions on NTN vs duckbill?. NTN really seems like the way to go, but is more expensive and especially since I will just be getting into tele I don't want to put too much into something I could or couldn't like.

I kind of understand the benefits of NTN on a basic level, but from what I have read, the ski could have a pretty big effect on what I should choose. It will probably be something around 110 underfoot with rocker in the tip and maybe tail (something like the surface Live Life)"

Jake, why not get an AT binding like the Duke? And FYI, gecko skins have a very poor reputation thus far.

Reviving this. I'm on alpine 80% of the time but I have a nice pair of tele boots and some hammerheads that i'd like to mount

anybody tele on a 90-95 waist twin tip that they like?

(need a ski suggestion)

60% on piste 40 off

Hey there! I have been through a few skinnier center mounted setups on tele as of late and found all to be awesome (Armada Alpha 1/2). However, those are around 83 underfoot so skinnier than what you are looking for. I also had the Rossi S3s for a stint and they were really fun as well. A buddy of mine rides the K2 Domains and wouldn't trade them for the world. Honestly I think the biggest thing (IMO) to look for is reduced camber and a little more rocker. From ski to ski of similar mold I notice little difference but teleing something with heavy or more traditional camber always feels a bit wonky, but to each his own.

... but if you are thinking 60/40 on/off, I would suggest you look into the S3s. Those things were incredible in powder and on groomers. Not too bad in the park either if you are just passing through.

got into it when i moved back east in 07. currently on mantras, T1s, and AXL's, but have a pair of k2 PE(extremes) w/G3s for early season/sketchy backcountry steeze

Can somebody please give the history of tele. And what is the advantage to tele? All I see is the ability to skin up with out an AT setup and maybe a better workout, that's just me and I have never tele'd so somebody hit me with the facts.
