Both were shot on a 40D with a stock 17-85 4-5.6 IS USM lens.
Both were with manual focus in manual mode.
No filters/polarizers or afterwork on either.

f32 10" I know this isn't anything special just curious as to what you think of contrast, exposure etc.

Thank you
and +karma

the first one is siiiick i really love the bokeh style and the colors also

the second one--definitely nothing special but i guess you have a correct exposure and nice depth of field just find a better subject is my opinion

i really like the first one though so good shootin

What the guy above said about the second one.

First one is really great, the colors, focus etc is very well done!

Technically, they're very nice pieces. The only advice I would give is to keep composition in mind. I like your use of black space in the first photo, but don't let the focus of the image be centered.

love the first one, but the second one, you cant really tell what the focus/subject of the pic is. Might be just me, but I dont get the second one.

on the second one i wouldn't use such a narrow apprature as the diffraction looks terrible i would have gone with a round f8 f11 as the depth of field would still be sufficient but the image wouldn't be as "soft".

Exactly what he said.

I really like th colors in the first picture. It definately is a nice shot. Keep shootin'

Nice exposure, composition is the only issue, you want to learn everything about composition (then ignore it - only use it in a pinch) also (and I have suffered from this problem, as has everyone else,) subject matter is important, and I'm gonna be honest, a tripod in a kitchen ???

Hahaha, i know man, I'm really sorry, I had only had the camera a day before shooting it, and I was just messing around.
Trust me I know what you mean and i am sorry.
But yeah composition is something i need to learn about so thanks to you that suggest it.
I'm hopefully enrolling in a foundation course to wise me up bit.
+karma for the positive vibes.

Haha. Thanks +Karma right back at you ! Don't be sorry, a picture of anything is practice ! Nice job on getting on a course, It helps tons, What camera did you get ?

I went for the 40D man, and I am stoked, this thing is incredible. Currently shooting through a 17-85 IS USM f4-5.6 and a 50mm f1.8 II.
Saving for flashes and a 70-200
Want to get a wide angle too. Any recommendations. Was thinking of the sigma 10-22

if you can afford it i would go with the canon 16-35 2.8L but if you cant then the canon 10-20 is much better then the sigma.

Dude I had an identical set up to you, the 40D is sick, and the 17-85 IS USM is epic, I got the 75-300mm later on, really slick lens, no-frills & cheap, (no IS, no USM) do you have flickr ? if so join the canon 40D group they're uber helpfull

#1- Pretty nice. Nice DOF, I like that the background is dark/not distracting. What I do find distracting, though, are the other buds leaving the frame. Also, lighting might be a tad harsh.

#2- Not sure what kind of review to give? As far as the exposure/post, it's fine. What I would have done is use a narrower DOF to isolate the tripod from the distracting kitchen appliances. I can tell it's a tripod but it's not a very creative or unique angle.
