NS'ers at UNH

Hey guys,I'm transferring to UNH in the fall. I'm probably going to be getting an apartment off campus somewhere in Durham since there aren't really many options available for housing for transfer students. I just wanted to see how many NSer's there are that go to UNH and how do you like it there. Also gonna be looking for some people to ski with :)

UNH is sweet, most of my good frends from high school are graduating this year, i never took classes at UNH but spent alot time on campus with friends partying and all that good shit, most of the people are really cool and the campus itself is sweet, as for skiing gunstock is the closest (45 min) they had a pretty good park this year, but other mountains near by are loon, waterville, attitash, cannon all within 2 1/2 hours of UNH....i dont know if you have found a place but my friend owns an apartment building and rents to basically only UNH students and its right in Durham near UNH...

I know a bunch of kids, Im not going next year but I went to Oyster River high in durham and a a few kids I know that ski are going next year. There are a bunch of kids at loon that go to UNH too, you shouldnt have trouble finding people

Ill be going to UNH next year. Ill also be at Loon every weekend, as will a couple other kids i know. I board, but its the same thing.

I go to unh, its good. not good for skiing cause the mountains are so far away and not even that good.

ill be at UNH, fun place, a lotta d-bag massholes though. the loon, sunday river, sugarloaf pass for around $300 is where its at.

you can ski Loon for a great resort and there are dope urbans, you just need balls to hit them

I live in durham, its a fun town, but I dont go to unh, Im still in hs

loon does not live up the hype it receives. i would rate its park average at best. its short, dark, and icy. not only this but the park also doesn't have any direct lift access. obviously it has lift access but you have to compromise whether you wanna ski the entire park by taking the gondola and waiting in line, or skiing the lower part by taking the SLOWEST triple in the whole world. you could also cut over to that other quad, and again miss out on the lower (biggest) jumps.

overall, loon gets 2 big thumbs down from me.

its not that hard to get to the quad from the biggest jumps, all you have to skip is the pipe if you cut through the right way.

2 thumbs up probably stratton after the US open and mount snow in the spring after dew tour. other than that any of the top park resorts out west.

i go to unh, and i dont see any reason to ski anywhere but loon. its close and its the best park/scene on the east. stratton, mt snow? get real, those people can only build things for contests, when they hire other people to do it for them.

maybe you missed the part of my previous post where i said, "stratton after the US open and mount snow in the

spring after dew tour." holy shit...those are both competitions. thanks for emphasizing my point.

you're hating on stratton and mount snow for HIRING people to build the best parks on the east??? get real, nobody gives a fuck who builds the jumps as long as they are the best, and hiring the best park builders in the world will do that.

also , i would hardly call a 2 hour drive to loon as being "close."

First off, loon's park may not have the most creative features and biggest jumps, but the park is definitely the most well maintained park, everything is usually pristine, as for closeness, I have lived in durham for 18 years of my life, skied every resort (including snow and strat) I can say loon is the best, best for park, best for pow, best for terrain, huge vertical, decent steeps when the condition are right. The park is long and you can hit everthing in a lap besides the pipe. Locals there are cool and lodge chillen when the lifts stops is a great time aswell. The weekends get busy, but I never really wait too long, singles lines are fast, especially on the kanc.

and I drive from durham to loon in 1:20-1:30, you just gotta know the cop spots

word, just hit me up come school time and we can figure some stuff out. im also talking to some other unh kids via facebook, but with little success.

advice for freshman at unh who want to ski: either bring a car or make friends with an upperclassman who has one. if you bring a car you cannot park on campus through unh but there are other non unh affiliated places to park.

also, DO NOT join the unh ski and snowboard club...its a waste of money, full of homos, and you have to wake up at like 5 o clock (usually after being smashed the night before)

i'm a transfer student so im livng off campus and a car wont be a problem.

Is the ski and snowboard club really that bad? How hard is it to meet kids that ski if you arent in it?

you guys probably dont know them. but they all go to school there.

They are the Groves, 4 blonde haired kids in 9,6,4,kindergarten.

if you went to school in durham my uncle Nate Grove teaches history for 8th grade i believe at the local middle school

Loon is the place, fuck all the haters. Especially AElot, Short Dark Icy? Is that a goddamn joke? Loons long ass, skinny park marinades in the sun so that by 11:30 while the immense Asian populate is heading inside for their cup o' noodles the lifts clear up and the park is prime. Short Dark Icy and cold i might add is the perfect description for the trip down to the park, which from the gondola, sucks balls, but lets be honest here, unless your smoking a blunt with your boys theres no reason not to skip the pipe and hot lap kanc.

It does get crowded on the weekends but what mountain doesn't? The worst part about the weekends are not the mass Asians but the 15 to 20 kids gapers in the LFT(loon freestyle team). Which you can get over by not spending 20-30 minutes at each feature. Besides, late season at Loon is a classic american past time. While the bunyan room bumps with already intoxicated middle aged men at high noon, the park is soft and shaped to perfection by a park crew I have gained a great amount of respect to over time.

loon gets it done any day of the week, rain or shine, november or april. And 2 hours from UNH? maybe on a moped.

yea thats true. i meant to say freeride team not freestyle though. freestyle team has like jack finn on it and hes pretty sick and not gay. theres a few others on that who are pretty cool too
