NS SUCKS ASS! (the suggestion thread)

a very good idea considering cell phones get more advanced every month and have web browsers almost like a normal computer

I feel that the site is becoming some kind of Facebook illegitimate baby... just see the profile for example and the karma thing... well that's my opinion

 
Yeah, the whole karma thing is cool and original...except that it doesn't work very well. Many people who rarely post are below 50, and people like Yauch can still maintain a karma of 45-46? Because of this, I generally ignore karma ratings because they mean nothing.
 
as mentioned before, the searchbar needs tons of work

also, when searching for photos id like to search stuff by finding the top rated picture in a certain category, just not in general

for example:

top rated-->big mountain

top rated-->jumps

etc.

have a mass thread watch delete button because mine is too long and I am not deleting them all individually
 
^ Uh...I'm pretty sure that exists...at the bottom of "my threads" there is a link that says "delete all my threads"....and you click that.
 
see to me that makes things way to complicated, I feel that we are all over trying to think things here, just have a spot that says good sell and a lil 1-10 rating system
 
I really like how this sites runs besides A) the search bar and B) with the new adds in everything feels a little cluttered, like I used to like to see the picture up top not adidas superstars. I think a few tweaks to the layout would be nice, I know that takes forever but a little goes a long way
 
There aren't enough new threads to split buy/sell/trade into 12 parts. Also its easier to make one big sale then 5 different sale threads. Besides in BST. You should know what the thread is, people usually put for sale, fs, etc in front of threads and then what there big ticket items are. Its a waste of programming time.
 
the ability to quote people who have already quoted another post. Like when a kid makes a post then someone quotes it and says you're gay or something like that. Its a hell of a lot easier to explain to them why they are so blatently ignornant when the original thing that was quoted is there instead of just you're gay being quoted.

and on the note of buyer/seller feedback, Ebay has a pretty good system. maybe if you just ripped theirs off and put an extra tab in everyones profile that a prospective buyer or seller could look at before actually doing business with a person.
 
pictures set behind the thread listings. I was just thinking wow, why should I see white when I could be seeing a random picture which could be anything from pictures of smuck to burly urbans.
 
what? how can you delete or ban judging on how someone has voted? what if you genuinely think a photo isn't as good as other people think it is and rate it lower to try and correct things?

as for suggestions it would be quite handy to have watch/unwatch buttons for pics and videos. often you want to go back and read more comments on the pic or whatever but you have to trawl through pages of other pics before you get to it.

also like someone said, it would be nice if someone wrote some script so that thread titles in all caps are automatically converted on only leading letter caps at most.

a home mountain feature would be cool and also maybe in your profile you could make a drop down list of regions that people live in so then in their profile then can click on their country to show other people that live there or click on their region or city to show people who live there.

I still think losing the banner ad on the mast would make the site look more professional, though I realise that ad is probably worth quite alot to advertisers.

centering the page could also be a nice addition, instead of having it aligned to the left side of the screen.

customisable quick links would be dope, so you could put links to cults and other things.

anyways good work on the site in general. keep it up guys.
 
yeah but then it would be impossible to read what the thread listings were, and quite possibly 100,000 people around the world would end up with mass migraines as a result of having to squint to read the thread listings to fuel their NS addiction.

the trouble with including previous quotes when quoting is that they end up turning into huge things. if someone quotes a and b says 'you're gay' then c quotes b you end up with 3 posts in a row. then when b replies to c and tells him hes a tool you end up with 4 posts in a row. i've seen it in other forums and it just escalates into huge strings of not particularly relevant posts. thats just my $0.02 other people may see it differently

also, enable all HTML tags, not just < B >, < I >, < BR >

that would be soooo dope!

the possibilities are endless.
 
Because its not a amazing. The user interface is much nicer in vbulletin. The quote function is much nicer. The PM function is 1000x nicer. It is very nice to be able to edit posts if you mistype which would greatly contribute to NS looking less like an IRC channel. The mouse over preview feature is amazing. The search function is a bajillon times better. Need I go on?
 
while I agree that the search and private message functionality need to be improved I think everything else is great.

Not being able to edit a post is one of my favorite things about the NS forums. It makes you think more about your reply and it prevents any confusion that might arise by someone going back and changing their post. You must not have been around for the "faunt" thread.

The quoting is fine although sometimes it won't let me delete stuff from their post and then make my post.

I've never liked any mouse over previews. They seem pretty worthless to me.

I don't want NS to look like every other message board on the internet.
 
Dude, NS Radio is making a comeback!!! It's gonna be sick, featuring: Nomensteven, Jason Mousseau, John symms (Yes THE John Symms) and Me ! we hope to get the first episode recorded pretty soon...

i think that Newschoolers should make chatrooms...have like 20 open chatrooms for people to join in and live chat...they should also be able to private message each other in the chatrooms too..just a thought
 
Better Search Bar!!!! Have more advanced options like what section of the site to look in, including what words, words in post or title, posted when etc. This way it will be easier to find stuff and maybe less stupid posts.

as someone mentioned earlier possible video/picture tags, and also maybe a message when someone comments on your vids/pics?

also a place to put the song title in your video upload would be nice.

and then the normal stuff, searchbar stuff etc.
 
We'd only adjust if its blatant tamporing. You're right that if its rated like a 3 because you actually hated it then for sure that won't get deleted.

However, a lot of people get their buddies and make aliases and rank stuff 1 just to bump it lower. I've looked into a few ratings and its crazy how much people try to cheat the system.

This would just protect against that... its really obvious when it happens. The genuine ratings would of course be left!

 
Yeah the layout has gotten a little cluttered for SURE. I think we just got crazy with adding features and shit to the site, and things just ended up getting all rammed everywhere.

Every year we freshen up the look of the site, and this year will be no different. I know Chris has some awesome ideas to clean up the look and feel. We don't want to over-clean it and make it feel sterile, but certainly NS could use a facelift.

We'll let you in as plans get sketched up for your guys feedback!

 
would it be possible to let me know what videos i have watched? there are many times that i want to go back to see a video and i can't remember what it's called.
 
i don't know if this has already been mentioned but being able to delete your old threads that are now useless. and also being able to have a permenate list of all of your threads, not just the currently active ones.
 
how about making like a quick reply box at the bottom of the threads... make it quicker and easier to reply to a thread? just a suggestion?
 
yeah whenever i try to look at NS on my blackberry I can't post and it takes a lot of time to scroll down through all the names and options and threads and stuff not to mention it takes a long ass time to load.

but that would be awesome if you could make this possible!
 
Not sure if it has already been suggested but it would be nice to see every thread that we have created, ever, not just the ones active in the last 30 days.
 
I think we should be able to put in a bunch of facts about ourselves and NS can match us up with compatible skiers. We can charge $19.95 per match-making and we can have commercials on FOX in between the Simpsons and Family Guy.

I also hope to see a Green Scale installed. It will go from 1-10, rating your fondness of steps to prevent global warming. Now, instead of making global warming threads, we can just look at people's Green Scale and damn all the non-believers to hell.
